Does anyone know what happened to thread #2? I was going back and reviewing #1, and just noticed it was gone.
If you're looking for it in the list at the bottom of the page, that list is limited to five random entries. Thread #2 can be found by clicking the link in the opening posts beginning with Thread #3.

The quickest way to access a list of all related threads, however, is to click the tag -- "lt. charles gliniwiecz" -- at the very bottom of each page in each related thread.

Gliniewicz was a poor manager who was never held accountable for his actions....

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20151111/news/151119720/

Just listening to local WLS 89 talk radio (around 7:10am CT, in case they podcast it on their website) and Lee Filas, the Daily Herald reporter who wrote that article, was interviewed. He is the long-time local reporter who interviewed son DJ in the days after this started. Not a whole lot new, however he did discuss AM's hiring. He said she was the first outside hire in around 20 years, where Fox Lake had always promoted from within. He wasn't sure why an outside hire now.

You know, if JG 'didn't really have any responsibilities' and spent most of his time in the records room or doing work for the Exploders, the story we were fed about him regularly patrolling the area where he killed himself was probably more BS fed to us by the FLPD.

We often hear about how the public should show more respect for LE. IMO, it is a two way street -- perhaps LE should show more respect for the public. This story shows a basic lack of LE respect for the public, from the very fact that Gliniewicz was still in the FLPD (and regularly promoted) despite his record, to the broad misinformation the public was fed about him.

People want their money back that they donated to the family. The donation accounts are now frozen.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/11/1...disgraced-illinois-cop-want-their-money-back/

From that article:
"A tally of the more-publicized fundraisers held for the family of Lt. Joe Gliniewicz indicates a minimum of $201,000 was raised. The official Joe Gliniewicz Memorial Fund was set up at the BMO Harris Bank. The bank won’t reveal how much money has been deposited or withdrawn from the account, but officials told the Northwest Daily Herald the account has been frozen."

Also the video is interesting. The reporter mentions that they had received tips on Sept 16th about JG's wrongdoings. He says it was very specific information and was given to them a full month before the investigators claim they found out. I'm sure the investigators were keeping quiet so they could dig up more, but still.... ugh.... all that time people touting him as a hero and opening up their wallets for the grieving widow.

In that video, Fox said they "got that information nice and easy, with great specificity".

I'm not remembering anything with specificity at that point. Anyone recall or have links to Fox reports around the 16th?

I was wondering if it wasn't released because LE said they had an investigation going on. Seems like the news station would have jumped at the chance to reveal a big scandal, but I don't know.

Agreed. Even if (heaven forbid!) Fox would have had details that LE stressed not releasing, you know they would have said something along the lines of "we have details we can't release" or "Exclusive details upcoming" to get the scoop and be first. I'm finding it odd that 1) it's Fox, 2) it was specific, 3) they held onto it, etc. The report wasn't a local Fox affiliate. It was a national report. I don't want to say that I don't trust what they said, but..... :waitasec:

And right on the heels of my skepticism on Fox reporting, this from the local Fox affiliate. Many pictures and video inside the Explorers storage area, with AM in the background of one photo. Hurray that someone is digging into the 1033 goings on and AM seems to be facilitating it.

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - For the first time, FOX 32 got to look into the Fox Lake Police Explorers clubhouse, where Lt. Joe Gliniewicz conducted meetings and stored hundreds of pieces of military equipment. That military surplus is now at the center of an investigation by State of Illinois and Fox Lake officials. Most of it was apparently obtained through a federal program called the Law Enforcement Surplus Office (LESO), which makes surplus military equipment available to local law enforcement agencies across the country.

Gliniewicz was in charge of requisitioning equipment through the program for the Fox Lake Police Department but officials tell FOX 32 that it appears he was handing much of that military surplus over to the Police Explorers unit which he and his wife ran for years. The problem is, federal and state rules make clear the military surplus should only be used for police purposes, and the Police Explorers would not have qualified to receive it.
Investigators are also looking to see whether Gliniewicz sold any of the equipment he obtained from the program.
The Explorers clubhouse, which is located in the basement of a Fox Lake community center, is filled with boxes containing hundreds, if not thousands, of pieces of military equipment, including bullet proof vests, gun belts, gas masks, ammunition and flares. There are also cots, mattress pads, Tupperware, t-shirts and boots obtained through the program, items which police officials said they would have no use for.
The Village of Fox Lake has hired a private company to identify and inventory all of the materials. That inventory list will be checked against acquisition records provided by the state to see whether all the military surplus has been accounted for.

I think that's what's next.

A friend of some of us, who is no longer a member, was on to this information and intelligently analyzing what was known. I know that they were in contact with a reporter, but I was never told which reporter. Some probably know of whom I speak. And we miss the poster. JMO

Totally off topic, but I laugh every time I see that emoticon because to me it looks like the smiley is smelling his armpit.
Sorry. That is all.

Ex-cop accused of threatening Gliniewicz investigators pleads not guilty

JBatt.jpg

Joseph A. Battaglia, 54, of the 5600 block of West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, remains free after posting the required 10 percent of his $100,000 bail. He is charged with harassment by telephone and disorderly conduct in Lake County court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, he could be sentenced up to six months in jail and a $1,500 fine, officials said. He is also eligible for probation.

Battaglia did not speak with reporters outside the courtroom, but defense attorney Myron Goldstin said he is negotiating with prosecutors to try to resolve the matter before the case goes to trial.

"There was no audio of the phone call, so if he made a threat, I don't know what he said," Goldstin said.

At the time the calls were made, authorities were under the assumption Gliniewicz was killed in the line of duty by three men acting suspiciously in Fox Lake on Sept. 1. Since then, investigators determined Gliniewicz killed himself because of the stress that he would be caught embezzling funds from Fox Lake Law Enforcement Explorers Post 300 that he led.

Rather than prosecute this guy, they should sit him down and pick his brain about what he knew and when he knew it. He may have a goldmine of information about Gliniewicz and his enablers. There's a backstory here of some kind, there's bound to be a reason why this guy blew a cork the way he did.

That would explain the continuing federal investigation, money laundering and the immediate involvement of the FBI, ATF and DHS. I believe that federal investigationmay have been going on prior to his suicide.

Seems like it but so far, no connection to CG. Maybe he just knew that FLPD was corrupt. JMO
