I guess he stole more than flashlights and pen pocket protectors. Lol

It was the reflective vests. Once they went missing everyone knew something was up.

Agree. But the missing 10 compasses were actually the dead giveaway. Lol.

But seriously. At first I knew he committed suicide but I really didn't think that it was over theft of the Explorers Program. So some sluethers did call that as well.

Now the mayor knew what the Explorers conversation was about. But the mayor lead us to believe that everything was on the up and up while big money was spent investigating this. And I'm sure that his constituents are not happy. Jmo

The incident report linked in the ABC link I posted above indicates two responding LEO'S were on the scene and on opposite sides of the 'field' when they heard the fatal gunshit fired by CG. The incident report describes CG as having basically being surrounded by the responding officers, none of the responding officers saw the alleged 3 suspicious persons.

Someone else, an expert being interviewed on the 10pm news indicated the government could have some liability for allowing the people of Fox Lake to belive there were 3 suspicious persons on the loose. At least that is what I recall him saying.

Cubby, I hate to mention it, but you had the craziest typo (and it was definitely a typo) in this post. Guessing you're on a tablet or a phone.

What I did notice about this redacted incident report was that on the first day, the shooting was labeled QUASI-criminal. Isn't that a red flag that things didn't seem right from the beginning?

That is an excellent point. How often do LE use 'quasi' as a modifier? Forgive me if I answer my own question, but not bloody often.

If I were to unpack the expression of 'quasi-criminal' -- I would submit that whoever wrote it thinks that criminality can't be justified through conventional means, but that there are possibly trappings of criminality present. And there were, because of CJG's staging of a criminal event.

I want to know what the text to the mayor said and why he (imo) blew it off with "I'll see him in the morning." Has that been released or mentioned?

My apologies for a giggle at Cubby's expense. If I had a dollar for every time I "tapped" "pist" when I meant "post"...well, ya know. I've even coined the error a "Tap-o" in some edit lines.

IMO, there are no apologies needed. While it was a typo, it was a good'un.

I can't remember where I got this picture of the manhunt. But many copies were on the Internet.

Anyway, it has always bothered me. Look at the faces. They are seriously focusing on something. If you enlarge it, you can see something at the middle bottom of the picture, by the foliage. Can anyone tell what it is?

Looks like a football huddle, with the quarterback drawing lines in the dirt to show his receivers where to run. I can't explain the lack of helmets and pads tho.....................

Somebody here worked up a pretty well thought through map of where he likely was found in one of the prior threads. It was just south of the gravel/Honing Rd., near the curve to the west of the cement plant. Reading through the FOIA'd incident report in combination with the WS map, the 2 R/Os had to have only been several hundred yards at most from the location when that shot happened. Wow. While close, it is very reasonable that it took some time to find his body in the swampy/woodsy terrain there. They were also initially under the impression there were 3 suspects fleeing the area (at least until they discovered the body), so may have been focusing on that vs. looking for an office down.

A couple of interesting tidbits here that I hadn't remember hearing or reading.

"They were all in the vicinity and one said, 'Is that a shot?'" said Det. Christopher Covelli with the Lake County sheriff's office. One of the officers, a military veteran, described it as a "muffled shot," which helped lead them to the area where they found Gliniewicz, Covelli said.

A much more indepth video inside the Explorers storage area by local NBC 5. Both the Village Administrator and interim Police Chief speak to it. Stockpile was military in nature, not law enforcement. Presence of narcotics at a prior time found.

The kids were being trained to kill on command...... Question....did any of the parents know about this? Why the silence? Or is that what the parents thought scouting was all about? Learning for Life? Really. JMO

Maybe their parents thought it was legit and cool? Joe must have been convincing to do all the stuff he did so I think misleading the kids' parents would have come naturally. Everyone thought so highly of him they would never suspect he was lying.

Now what did he really say to the kid that night and how will they ever know if all the equipment is accounted for? JMO but I'm sure some of it has gone missing.

"The first lawsuit related to the Gliniewicz case will be filed in federal court on Friday. Among those named in the suit are Mayor Schmit, Former Police Chief Michael Behan, and the estate of Joe Gliniewicz."

http://abc7chicago.com/news/police-reports-shed-light-on-moments-after-lt-gliniewiczs-death/1082274/

The first of many I predict. Though, I wonder who filed...

ETA: I wonder if it's the 3 suspects. Remember when they interviewed one of the suspects, I assumed that's where he was going with his statement to the reporter.

Dang....they believe he was forging the chief's signature?

  • #478
Yes. I saw a quick recap of this on Fox 32 earlier. He was forging the Chiefs signature to get military equipment from the Pentagon. The Pentagon equips the police with this equipment, not explorer programs. There were a lot of boxes in the room they showed.

What a freakin mess....

I agree - he had to be selling a lot of these supplies as surmised here before.

Wow, just wow! What's next?
