GUILTY IL - Newborn found dead in trash, 14yo charged, Sauk Village, 26 Oct 2006

Why would they allow someone to adopt 14 children?!!! I have only four children and they take so much time; I just cannot imagine anyone being able to care for that many children. Well, obviously, she didn't so good. I feel sorry for the 14 year old; I, too, think she must have loved that baby to try to feed her. Now she will have to live with that guilt forever. And it will worsen as she gets old enough to truly understand what she has done..

It bothered me the woman was allowed to adopt 14 children too. surely that's too many to care for?

Okay, so this woman has a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old who both get pregnant. She doesn't even know the 14-year-old is pregnant. And she blames social services? Give me a break.

It sounds as though there are a whole lot of things wrong in that household. Perhaps we will hear more details later.

How did she have a physical and they didn't notice? Something is really wrong with that picture! I can imagine how it could be hidden from the parents, but wouldn't someone doing the most basic physical examination notice???

I'm not sure how much of a physical public schools do. At my daughter's school they basically, check weight, height and maybe the ears and eyes. If this girl was overweight anyway they probably didn't notice. I've heard of it happening before.

Two of my sister in laws had babies at 13. One of my sister in laws daughters has 4 kids now and she is 21 years old. You can do the math. My husband comes from a very large hispanic family and I guess to them its normal because its celebrated it is never frowned upon. I made a comment ONCE and basically got the feeling that my comment was not appreciated so I figured I better hush before I caused a riot becuase it very well could of escelated to that. I have noticed though that the area my husbands family lives in is highly populated with extremely young hispanic teen moms. I am not stereo-typing here I am just saying what I have seen and been witness to.

I cried as I was reading that link. The younger sister delivering her baby and feeding the baby some of her infant's formula. So much more mature than her older sister. I just wish the little sister had kept the baby with her that night. She actually saw the baby, fed her...it will probably haunt her for the rest of her life.
Somehow I don't think the mother of the baby could care less.

WOW - that 13 year old younger sister seems very responsible for her age to do the things she did when her sister was in the bathroom. Kudos to her, and I hope she has the opportunity to be a great mother.

I agree it's probably not a great, in-depth physical. I just thought they might have listened to her heart/lungs and noticed something. I mean, she must have been about at term and the baby could even have been moving around!

(Remember when a hand or foot would just poke out of your belly like in Alien?)

I do wonder if she was very overweight or underweight. My mom was very thin when she had me and only gained 12 lbs the whole pregnancy. A teenager might have been pretty small. If she was overweight, it would also be hard to tell.

But, I do see the mom's point that if she could hide it during a physical then she could easily hide it from mom.

I think you're right...the actual mother could have cared less but her younger sister cared about that baby and wanted the baby to live.

With so many young girls having babies these days, the person doing the physical probably assumed (if they even noticed) that the family knew about the pregnancy.

Years ago I had two cousins that both became pregnant at 16. One was slightly heavy and one was thin. Both were able to hide their pregnancies until their babies were born by wearing very baggy clothing. They both lived in a very rural area. Needless to say, we were all stunned. Thank God both babies were born healthy and are now adults. :o

Are you pregnant Floh? Don't worry, when it's your baby it's one of the most wonderful things in the world. I remember my son would poke his knee or elbow out on my side. I would just put a hand there and rub a little and it would move. Which makes me think about how could someone feel that little life growing inside of them and hate it so much that they would kill their child.

My husband got tired of me freaking out that I didn't feel my baby move and I would constantly go to the doctor to "check." He (my husband) grabbed a cold soda and placed it on my tummy on one side and my baby moved all the way onto the other side - made me look completely deformed for a few seconds. It was horrible, and wonderful all at the same time. (And saved a TON of money on future "checks".) :-)

(It's ALOT cheaper than buying a monitor that they make nowdays - and the only side effect I see is that my kid drinks sodas without ice!)

From February 2008:

A Sauk Village girl who suffocated her newborn daughter, then placed her in the trash, was sentenced Tuesday to 5 years of probation and mandatory counseling by a Cook County Juvenile Court judge.

Although court officials discussed sentencing the girl to time in a juvenile detention center, attorneys and officials involved in the case said the girl would be better served if she remained in the custody of her mother.
