Nearly a week after a Naperville man made a public plea for help finding his missing wife, authorities have recovered a body near an area where she was last seen, police said.

Oh, Sinmi. There was a group of us hoping for a different scenario. I wish you knew.

Rest in peace now.

I'm not familiar with the Daily Herald (I live in Chicago), but I checked ALL the local msm sites and no one as yet has reported on it as of 6 pm. So I'm going to wait until we have more information before commenting in detail. Hoping for some closure for a family, whatever the outcome.

Naperville police posted on Facebook.

Joint Statement from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and Naperville Police Department

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - This afternoon at the approximate time of 1:55 p.m., Naperville Police Officers were called to a trailhead at the southwest corner of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, near the intersection of 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive, for the report of a dead body discovered in the prairie. Officers arrived on scene and were led through a dense area of high grass to the body. The clothing of the deceased matched the clothing that Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede was last seen wearing. At this time we continue to believe that no foul play is suspected.

“While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office,” said Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone in our community who assisted with this investigation and for your care and concern. We ask that everyone keep the family in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

“Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson. “We will continue to work closely with the Naperville Police Department and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office to ensure this investigation is thorough and respectful.”

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County Police is leading the death investigation in collaboration with the Naperville Police Department.

Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve remains open to the public. There is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The Daily Herald is the 3rd largest newspaper in Illinois after the Tribune and Sun. It has more of a presence in the suburbs than the city, but it’s a reputable source.

Thanks! I had expected it to show up in NBC/CBS/FOX in Chicago but it hadn't yet, when the Herald article came out (which required a subscription to read). They've caught up with the story and here's a link from one of the stations. Body found in suburban forest preserve believed to be missing Naperville woman: police. My heart goes out to this family.

She was found a 2 minute car ride or 12 minute walk from her house. So disappointed she wasn't found sooner.

My heart goes out to her family and to the people who found her. It should have been the police 2 weeks ago.

I'm glad they had extra eyes out there looking (and some drones). Searching an area like that is harder than it appears, especially with the tall grasses that are present now. I worked a helicopter crash (part of rotor came off inflight) and though we had multiple eye witnesses see where it went down in corn, we spent over a week in hazmat suits (due to biohazard) walking grids foot by foot, through an area of tall corn maybe 40 acres in total before we found the key piece of evidence. And that was with Sheriff overhead helicopter searchers and a volunteer civilian search group. I can't imagine what it's like to organize a search of this nature. So glad there were volunteers, family, and community out there to bring Sinmi home..

Yes, a very very difficult spot to search for a missing person. SO much vegetation and foliage. I understand how she has not been found until now.

A good reminder to keep searching the same area. When you have no better ideas, there is no point in searching further and further away. Just do the immediate area where the person was last seen again and again and again.

We got the old "foul play is not suspected" so I guess suicide is the answer.

She could have fallen, I guess?
or a cardiac/medical issue? Most likely I think suicide for a number of reasons though. It breaks my heart she was out there for 2 weeks.

An update: the autopsy is complete although it sounds like it was inconclusive as to COD as they are waiting toxicology results (up to 8 weeks) to make a determination. Based on the police saying this was not foul play almost immediately after she went missing leads me to think she may have had a physical or psychological issue at play. I hope this family gets the closure they need soon, so that they may grieve in private. Still no formal ID of woman found in Spring Prairie Forest Preserve

What park are you referring to that they didn't search?

Thanks, is that not part of the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve which they did search?

They could have searched Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve but not searched the entire thing. I can't tell from that map if where she was located is part of that preserve unless I'm missing it.

There's a Springbrook Prairie West Shelter near the area where she was found so it's quite unclear to me what is part of the preserve and what isn't.

I wonder if they had doorbell footage that helped lead them to a search area though. I'm not sure if we'll find out.

How is there still no positive ID at this point by the coroner?

The tentative identification was done by clothing. They likely had to get dental records or DNA for positive ID. DNA can take weeks (six plus). With dental odontology it depends on how easily they can get the records, some dentists will turn them right over, others want a subpeona That's assuming she had regular dental exams as an adult. Surprisingly, I've encountered some people in their 30's and 40's for whom we needed dental records to make an ID, that had none as an adult, and the childhood dentist was either unknown or a long since closed practice.
