In mild hypothermia, there is shivering and mental confusion. In moderate hypothermia, shivering stops and confusion increases. In severe hypothermia, there may be paradoxical undressing, in which a person removes their clothing, as well as an increased risk of the heart stopping. Hypothermia - Wikipedia.

Coroner: Woman found dead in Springfield died from hypothermia

This may also account for why the sheriff deputy first noticed clothing and then found Randa. As the hypothermia became severe she may have removed articles of clothing :(

I just saw the same news report and was going to link. Hypothermia is the official cause of Davidson's death...

Even though Davidson was last seen around 11:00PM, it would seem likely that some area businesses, like gas stations and C-stores, would be open where she could have found shelter and then called family and friends for assistance.

Maybe we'll have more information once the toxicology report is released.

I still wonder about her emotional state at this time, and why her cell phone was found along the roadside, 50 miles away. We may never know.

Just saw Randa's obituary. We may never know the full story behind her passing but at least her family has closure.

Family of Greene County woman advocating mental health awareness

[...]
The family of a Greene County woman found dead this week in Sangamon County is asking people to seek help when they notice changes in a family member's personality or otherwise have concerns about the person's mental health.

The family of Randa Davidson, 39, who was found dead Tuesday on Robbins Road in Springfield after going missing on Jan. 25, is asking people to speak up before it's too late.

Molly Sorrell, Davidson's cousin, said she and other family members noticed some changes in Davidson prior to her disappearance and are left now to wonder if they could have helped her.

Because of the stigma often attached to mental health problems, many people don't seek help and family members often don't push to get the help an ill family member may need, she said.

That needs to change so fewer people are hurt or die as a result of mental health problems, she said.

Foul play was not suspected, but the death is being investigated by the Sangamon County coroner and Sangamon County Sheriff's Department.

The Sangamon County coroner has said Davidson died of hypothermia after she was exposed to the elements.

"They said she died within an hour from her last sighting, that's how quickly one can die from hypothermia," Sorrell said. "She wasn't dressed for the elements."
