It's a fascinating theory. But the sketch, which is indeed related to the Percy murder, was not drawn from Mrs. Percy's eyewitness account.

It was drawn from eyewitness accounts of a similar attack on a young woman in Evanston, IL (two towns south of the Percy's then residence) about ten weeks prior to the Percy homicide.

There is no sketch from the actual Percy attack because Mrs. Percy said, a 5 a.m., she didn't get a good enough look at the attacker. She was said to have noted similarities between the person she saw, and the sketch, but at the same time it is said she maintained she didn't see the suspect well at all, just that it was a person and the shirt and glasses and, supposedly the comment about the person's hair vs. the hair portrayed in the sketch. So, the statement "there is no doubt he did it," isn't so.

But of course, all we know is what was reported in the papers and there are tons of inaccuracies there. The reporting of what she said during inquest may be verbatim, though.

Google updated their satellite shot of the old Percy property. One can see the current construction from space on the picture of Devonshire Lane, in Kenilworth, IL.

Winward,
Is that a house going up there? It will be HUGE!!

I did not think Valerie went to Stewardess school either. I wonder where that person got that info?

Rumor has it it will be 25,000 square feet. Nothing would surprise me these days. Large as the old house had been made in its last renovation, what's going on now looks to be a monster. They're removed much of the bluff that led from the beach to the old residence. They've dug really deep.

Boy, that's gonna be big.

what was the exact street address on devonshire? maybe I can find the permits or the city council agenda minutes of their plan approval.

40 Devonshire. Shouldn't be hard. It's the only address on it.

I guess if you're gonna pay ten million bucks in a terrible real estate market for a place just to tear it down you must have something big in mind.

The guy who said, "historically, these are separate lots," was right. I know first hand the Percys are the ones who put the three lots together. But I guess they were one before the previous owners split them up.

I read the report commissioned to determine the historical significance of the buildings there. I don't think it contains information about the farm house sheltering victims of the Civil War era steamship disaster on the lake. They would have known that had they contacted Mrs. Percy.

Also interesting in the information that says the village includes two ravines. They aren't big ones, but Devonshire itself is one, where it goes down to the beach, and the other one is about a quarter mile north of there.

I remember this case - I was in grade school when it happened. Valerie was such a beautiful young woman, it would be nice to finally know who ended her life.

What's the consensus about the glove in this case. Was it or was it not left by the killer? If it was, wouldn't there be testable DNA on it?

IIRC, there were other things that had testable DNA also. I am drawing a blank right now, but I remember that being a source of frustration, because today's methods should be able to yield some clues by way pf DNA.
