I hope the newly elected Brandon Johnson has an answer. Otherwise this will be another summer of violence including underage teens.

From your cited article, that is about a 1% increase. I think LE deserves more than a 1% raise.

Comparing current Police spending to 1964 spending is like comparing apples to oranges. The responsibilities of LE have changed dramatically since then.

I think we can agree that we all want a better Chicago.

That’s because most of it is overtime. Down a couple thousand cops, losing a thousand a year, putting 800 through the academy a year, and an absolute nightmare of a mayor coming on which will lead to more attrition. Watch this.

Some poor lady is being beaten, and there’s going to be a 10 minute response time.

Police swarm downtown Chicago after last weekend’s unrest

James Cobbs, a former Chicago resident who now lives in Terre Haute, Indiana, said he felt “protected” by the police even if he wasn’t sure why they were there — though one officer told him about a “teenager raid” in the Loop.

A street vendor, who didn’t want to be identified, said he was stuck in the middle of the chaos last weekend. ”I just saw a bunch of teenagers, 13, 15, running around in the streets. I was afraid, I didn’t know if I was going to be hurt or robbed,” he said in Spanish. “I feel safer seeing the police out here."

Coordination wasn’t good last weekend. It should be better going forward. Thank god the weather isn’t conducive to raising hell this weekend.
