GUILTY IL - Zachary Irvin, 22, found dismembered, East St Louis, 20 June 2010

I am assuming the pentagrams were not necessarily connected because this warehouse was unsecured and being used/accessed by a lot of unauthorized persons. I hesitated to assume just because something is within a room (inside a building) such as that is tied with something that may have been done in that room. YKWIM?

In other words, I do not assume the paint on the walls was done by the same person or persons as the violent act performed in the same area/building/or even room because way too many people have had easy access to that same area/building/room for probably many months/nay possibly years.

I am having a hard time explaining my thought but I am hoping you are able to follow my ramblings.

I posted the Satanic rituals associated with the date of the Beltane. I got it off a site which lists SRA dates of concern. There are many available on the web. I cannot vouch for their authenticity but I did want to point them out.

http://www.survivorship.org/resources/dates.html

http://members.cox.net/lop1/SRAcalendar.html

http://libertytothecaptives.net/ritual_calendar.html

The Beltane is an important and festive event here in our town and not just because we have a large number of people who practice the Wiccan or Pagan lifestyle. We are also a Shakespeare town--home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival--300,000 attendees each year over the course of 9 months. There is much merry-making on the Beltane. Being what might be called a "shut-in", I was delighted to receive a number of lovely May Baskets this year on the Beltane. I also was treated to candles and a song at my window by little flower wreathed toddlers, ushering in the month of May. Our schools celebrate and honor the Solstice and it is lovely to watch how much respect the young children approach this with. They are very humble as they learn to honor the earth.

The SRA calendar I linked to lists dates that might be triggers or have some connection to Satanic practice or ritual. Please understand that I am in no way linking what the "ritual" called for had any connection to Wicca.

Carry on!

Alrightie then.:D

Sorry, that just made me laugh. I had to say that.

Hmmmmmm, appears that this person with a Blog reads here. See comments. Warning salty language. Nothing there that we haven't dug up, but the guy obviously has been by the warehouses. Now I so wish someone had a paid archives membership as this Blogger metnions Iagulli's dad per Filly's find except nobody has the paid archives dang it.

http://crimecrawlers.wordpress.com/...rson-you-just-dont-fk-with-that-kind-of-evil/

Edit to say no way am I paying for one because I just may need a pack of ciggies and be broke and curse myself.

Again, I am so sorry for Zach's family. His cousin weighs in at that blog as well.

Thanks Filly for re-posting that site as there are new comments. I find it shocking that Zach's family are getting their info from the media. Really? If the cousin's comments are true, that's what it sounds like. The mother was told that all parts of her son had been recovered but the media reported that limbs were missing.

Who are we to believe? I'm still confused as to why the crime scene was not secured and news media were able to wonder around snapping photos.

I haven't mentioned this on this thread before, but I have a son who "chose" to be homeless for over a year. He traveled from one homeless shelter/mission/street church in our state to the next. Several times, he was transported by pastors and caring church members to another city as he is a fighter and is alternately unbelievably irritating and then hostile to others. He's been diagnosed since a young age with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. He has a very unclear view on boundaries and safety. He's now working with the Job Council and I have my fingers crossed that he'll watch his mouth and stay out of people's faces.

I'm in no way saying that Zachary's personality was like this as I've read that he was a caring and sweet young man. However, our son recently "found Christ" and has attempted to witness to some street guys who were not interested. He had to have his bottom lip literally sewn back on and he had his nose broken. We got very concerned when older church members who had no idea how to handle such a mentally unstable young man started taking him into their homes. Before long he'd been arrested and was transported to yet another city.

The reason I bring this up is that our son (adopted at age 3) was raised within a loving family. He really had no idea what the streets were all about. I'm starting to think that Zachary also lacked that vital information. I noticed (in the other forum) that his mother had arranged for Zach to stay at Larry Rice's Mission. For some reason, he was turned away.

Our son thought he was tough but he really isn't; he's just seriously reactive. I don't think Zachary was tough either. I worry terribly that something just like this could happen to our boy and others like him who really don't "get" the laws of the street. I also worry that this exact same scenario has played out before near other missions where Iagulli has lived. My heart just breaks for Zachary's family. I have no doubt that some of them probably cautioned him about the city.

There is NO way that Zachary is the first victim IMO. And there will be more, if the local LE don't recognize the gravity of this crime and look into the motives rather than just the death of this young man. It was far more than a "beef".

Far more.

Filly posted some troubling tidbits up thread and I've spent the day checking out some thing. There is definitely a murder mystery connected to Dennis Iagulli PRIOR to his current crime.

Iagulli was born in 1969. His dad was born in 1950. On June 23, 1971, the father witnessed or took part in a murder of a man named Daniel Stillwell. Mr. Stillwell was killed by his son Roger, who was convicted, partly on testimony from DMI. I can only read small snippets of the old case as it is archived and only available on paid sites. Maybe someone can access it. The father died a few years ago at the age of 55 (I've found his obit too) but the murderer has been released. Here's the link I found:

http://www.loislaw.com/ogpc/login.h...llwell&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&btnG=Search+Archives

"...Defendant Roger Stillwell was indicted on August 6, 1977 by the Ocean County grand jury and charged with murdering his father, Daniel Stillwell, Sr., on June 23, 1971. Apparently, the local police, although suspecting that defendant had killed his father, had insufficient evidence on which to make an arrest until six years later when immunity was granted to DMI [EBM], who was with him when the homicide occurred...."

I wonder if Dennis was present? He would have been around 2 years old at the time. Is history repeating itself? Odd that the dates are almost identical. We know that Zach was killed on the 20th or 21st and his body burned on the 22nd. There seems to be an awful lot of young deaths in this family.

Wow, Izzy. Thanks button not enough.

What are the chances?

It's almost unbelievable. I wonder if that will come out in trial. Not that he deserves a trial.

BTW, I am sorry about your son's lip. Many people do not understand "homeless by choice". Also I am not saying Zach was, but there are many. Prayers for those still out there trying to find their way.

  • #87
Thanks Filly, but this young man had been warned about this lip for, oh about 15 years. He was fortunate to grow up in a very loving and supportive small town where everyone knew of his challenges. He followed on the coattails of a couple of our very popular sons, one a student body president and the other an amazing athlete. He went to school with the same kids from K-garten through high school. Most often, he was given a pass.

We warned him. His siblings warned him. Teachers warned him. The whole world is not a little bubble like Ashland. He'd literally been on the streets of Portland for two days when the lip incident happened. He made the poor choice of commenting on someone sexual orientation--a person about three times as big as him. I would think that having a lip sewn back on hurts.

We warned him. Sometimes that's all a parent can do.

Interestingly enough, I got a call today from another "traveling" son. He's living down by a river in California. Sounds like he's staying out of trouble. Even giving back a little to his community. He was very pleasant and asked after each of his siblings and sounded genuinely concerned and interested. He told me that he's never been happier. He promised me that he's staying safe and hanging with the appropriately aged group. It's surely not the life I imagined for this young man when he came to us at age 3, but I listened carefully, and I liked what I heard.

A lot to think about, that's for sure. My heart goes out to Zachary's mother as she's not going to get the call I got today. I am counting my blessings.

Oh, Missizzy, you are a blessing :blowkiss:

  • #89
Thank you Lovejac, that's really dear. I'm really just a girl who refuses to give up and tries to keep laughing. But thank you.

I have to say that this case is weighing heavy on my mind. I keep going back and looking at little details which don't add up. It's starting to remind me of the Texas Serial Rapist (the Twilight Rapist) thread. The media is just not getting their facts straight or LE is not releasing the correct facts. I've read almost every post on mydeathspace and every article I can find. I can't decide where the problem lies. Is it that LE is overwhelmed in this area, the fact that the young man was presently homeless, or the issue of the occult possibly playing a factor? I just looked again at this article:

http://www.lincolncourier.com/news/x522014573/Cops-describe-grisly-warehouse-murder

"....Authorities have not divulged a possible motive in the killing, which surfaced June 22 when workers at a trucking company found human remains — a head, torso and leg — burning in a small metal cart near the East St. Louis police firing range, directly south of the warehouse. Dental records later confirmed the remains were those of Irvin.

Investigators quickly focused on the warehouse — marked by shattered windows and overgrown grass and brush — after learning Irvin had been seen nearby pulling a cart four days before his remains were found....."

We read upthread that Zach had headed into East St. Louis on June 19th or 20th from his hometown of St. Elmo, IL (about 80 miles away). He was headed for a particular mission, Larry Rice's, where his mother had made some sort of arrangements for him to stay. Authorities have not divulged a possible motive in the killing, which surfaced June 22 when workers at a trucking company found human remains — a head, torso and leg — burning in a small metal cart near the East St. Louis police firing range, directly south of the warehouse. Dental records later confirmed the remains were those of Irvin.

Can someone help me with a timeline. I understood that Zach arrived in the East St. Louis area only a day or so before he was killed. I know I read that as I commented that that didn't seem to be long enough to develop a "beef" with two guys. I believe I read that he was shot on the 20th. That would have been Fathers Day and he was noted to have called his Dad that day on a cell phone his Mom gave him. His dismembered body was found burned with a tire on the 22nd. How could he have been seen walking with a cart four days earlier? Am I missing something?

Two other things that bother me:

1) Most street people don't start out pushing carts. That develops out of necessity when one must move around from place to place. Zach was a young guy with probably a backpack. I find it odd that he would be pushing a cart.

2) I had not realized that the warehouse where the blood was found was adjacent to a police shooting range. I'm very surprised that LE would be accepting of so many people living in that warehouse if they were working on target practice close by. Most LEOs are pretty observant and would have noticed this situation IMO.

Lastly, I've noticed that a cousin of Zach's has been posting on other sites. I really wish he'd come and talk with us. We can assure him of kindness and the total lack of mean-spirited comments he's endured on other sites. So, Cousin, if you are reading this, please check in with Trisha (as required of all family members of crime victims) and let us see if we can help in any way. It broke my heart to read your post that the media and LE seem to be minimizing this horrible crime right now.

My prayers are with your family.

I just went back and read our entire thread and read all the articles (and attached comments) that are still available. I'm almost done with mydeathspace and read all of the crimecrawler comments. I can't copy any of those posts over here but I did see one small comment--almost made in passing--which gave me pause. A woman wondered where all the stray dogs and cats had gone in East St. Louis. Hmmmm. Another bit of confusion is about the missing limbs and the type of cart seen. I've read that it was a grocery cart and also a large metal "landscaping cart".

There are also new comments about Iagulli confessing and then retracting. I'll check that out. In the mean time, I found a couple of facts in the news articles that I wanted to put in one place:

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/...cle_ac47182b-0b8b-5ec1-a38c-12729e4b85ee.html

"Irvin was laid off from his job at the Cumberland Trail Growers greenhouse in May. Paula Miller-Stanley, Irvin's mother, said her son took a bus to St. Louis a few days before he was killed."

http://effinghamdailynews.com/local/x1671032803/Body-identified-as-St-Elmo-man

"Twenty-two-year old Zachary Irvin’s body was found around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, on the East St. Louis riverfront at Front and Winter streets, not far from the east bank of the Mississippi River...."

and

"According to Ladue Police Lt. Bill Baker, commander of the Metro East Major Case Squad, a homicidal unit of the greater St. Louis area, Irvin was shot, dismembered and stuffed into the small grocery cart...."

and

"[The three men] had gotten into an argument at a downtown St. Louis soup kitchen called “Larry Rice’s Place,” but Baker didn’t know if the argument occured before or after they ate dinner.

The three men then walked across a Mississippi River bridge to East St. Louis to the warehouse, where Baker believed the men got into a second argument and one of them shot Irvin. The large warehouse is a known spot where homeless people tend to gather, and Baker said Irvin willingly went to the warehouse...."

"According to Baker, Irvin took a bus to St. Louis from the St. Elmo area at the beginning of the week of June 20, and like most of the homeless, he had been traveling to and from various homeless shelters in downtown St. Louis and East St. Louis...."

Izzy the timeline is confusing to me as well.

I'll go through it again tomorrow. This thread I mean and our links and try and help.

This case is weighing on my mind. I finished the entire 10 pages of mydeathspace and also learned that Iagulli had been seen in and around St. Elmo. Several family members weigh in and set the record straight. Zack had moved to St. Elmo from Dallas with his Mom. They stated that he had over 100 cousins on his Mom's side of the family.

I decided to see if I could find any evidence of Iagulli ever attending the church in St. Elmo where Zack (the way his cousins spell his name) attended. I did not find any mention of Iagulli in the area but I started to really look at the web presence of this church:

http://freedomreignsinchrist.org/Homepage/Home.html

The pastor is a very young man, aged 24, named Jakob Barrientos. Here's a description of what led him to be a pastor:

http://freedomreignsinchrist.org/Homepage/Pastor_Jakob.html

Sounds like he's been through quite a number of personal tribulations. I listened to parts of two sermons which are available by audio near the bottom of the church's home page. It is definitely the traditional fire and brimstone preaching I heard a few times in the South when I was a little girl. There is mention of speaking in tongues and rolling in the mud at the tent revivals. There's also an almost continuous theme throughout the blog and the sermons......Satan and fire.

Pastor Jakob, as he likes to be called (I did not find his last name on the site) is married and has two adorable children. He sounds like a very dynamic and busy man. He spoke to the media about Zack and said that he was helpful around church and well liked.

Pastor Jakob went to seminary in Dallas, Christ for the Nations Institute, from 2005-2007. He has a Myspace page:

http://www.myspace.com/pastor-jakob

"I'm a Pastor of an amazing Church full of hungry on fire people. We are pressing toward a powerful move of God! God has already been doing some amazing things in the church. We've seen significant healings taking place, demons cast out, and most importantly the lost coming to a real living relationship with Jesus Christ!"

and a blog:

http://freedomreignsinchrist.blogspot.com/2010/07/devils-delights.html?spref=tw

He also has a Twitter account and posted all through June and July. Not a word about Zack, though. Not a single one I could find.

I came away from reading about this church with a lot of questions. They've been studying the End Times for quite a while. In fact, it looks like from Twitter that that subject was thoroughly taught during the month of June, just before Zack headed to East St. Louis. Secondly, I'm just really confused how such a large and vibrant church family don't seem to mention anything about Zack.

On mydeathspace, several cousins of Zack's spoke about how close Zack was to Pastor Jakob. They were very close in age. Pastor Jakob was the pastor at Zack's funeral.

Lastly, I wonder about what Zack took away from this church. Had he met Iagulli there? Did he leave this church pumped up and ready to preach the gospel at Larry Rice's Mission in East St. Louis? It's been widely reported that Zack's mom called the Mission and arranged for Zack to stay there. Why was he turned away? Was he merely trying to have a place to sleep while he looked for work or was he thinking he might be hired to work there?

I just can't seem to get past the frequent reminders of the End Days, the Devil, demons, and the analogy of fire and what happened to Zack on the night of June 20th and all through the 21st and into the 22nd, when his body was set on fire.

I would think that the church members would be turning to their pastor for help with this horrible tragedy. Pastor Jakob's twitter which I think is in reference to Zack's passing:

http://twitter.com/PastorJakob

"Good full week! Four nights of revival services, funeral, baptism service, wedding rehearsal and wedding... I love it!"
8:29 AM Jul 9th via Twitterrific

Right after this post, he left for Dallas with a group of students for a revival. I wish Zack could have been with them.

Here's another link to Zack's funeral notice. I wonder why they list 8:43 am on June 22nd as the time of death? According to police, he was killed on June 20th.

http://effinghamdailynews.com/deathnotices/x657355929/Zachary-Irvin

Still so so many questions.

According to two other forums, mydeathspace and this one:

http://crimecrawlers.wordpress.com/...ust-dont-fk-with-that-kind-of-evil/#more-2132 (please be aware of language)

Dennis Iagulli has been assigned a very skilled attorney, Thomas Q Keefe III who works in his father's law firm. There's some conjecture that the attorney might be working with Larry Rice's center in East St. Louis. Pierson was assigned an attorney with four years experience, Latoya Berry.

A good bit of info on Mr. Keefe on the above linked site.

  • #94
A cousin of ours in St. Elmo had met Dennis Iagulli before. Zach left for St. Louis thinking Larry Rice could help him find a job/ get experience for a job and was turned away for some reason. He just wanted a better life. It has been said by the investigators that there was an argument at the soup kitchen, Zach ran, and was lured by Dennis back to the warehouse where they tied him to a lawn chair to control him. He was shot June 20 and his body was found June 22 burning. The obituary you read said June 22 because it was still early on in the investigation and was not known yet when he had been killed.
Not sure if the symbols on the walls are from the two men yet, however in the middle we believe it may say Iagulli Ohio and Iagulli has family members in Ohio. Pierson told the police where Zach's clothes were in the warehouse and even admitted to wearing Zach's belt while being questioned. He was arrested before Iagulli.
Investigators have a full confession from Iagulli, fingerprints, shell casings and the gun. Now the two are pointing fingers at each other. They have both pleaded not guilty.

lilalicea--Thank you so much for posting. Welcome to you. Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your family member. This is a truly tragic death with so many horrid overtones. It seems especially strange being that Iagulli's father was involved in some sort of similar murder years ago.

I need to ask if you've emailed Trisha. She likes to know when family members are on board. I can assure, you, however, that you will be met with kindness and concern here. There is no pointing of fingers or profanity or bashing allowed. We all want to know what led up to this needless death. So many young people are finding themselves homeless in this economy. We, as a society, need to make sure this doesn't happen again. As is so often the case, it's forgotten just how many people can be impacted by a death.

I'm very curious, was Zack hoping to work with the homeless in East St. Louis? He seemed very involved with Pastor Jakob and his church. I keep wondering if he might have attempted to witness to these two men after arguing with them. Do you and your family feel as if everything is being done to solve this crime? There's very little in the news right now.

Again, welcome, and please post if you learn anything you can share. We'd all like to help piece together the facts.

  • #96
I appreciate your warm welcome and the interest in Zach's murder. We are still healing and it will take a long time I am sure. We just want to know WHY? Why Zach? He had such a big heart and was a good person. So innocent. He had no idea what E. St. Louis was like.
A couple family members wonder if it was a religious thing. Did he discuss religion with them and they thought, we'll show him a demon? Some say he may have been robbed. Some say he was raped. Iagulli says he is gay.I don't know. I don't know if we will ever know. Iagulli and Pierson know and now they have plead not guilty so who knows if the truth will come out.
I don't think the news has covered his story enough. They only want to discuss the shocking parts. He was chopped up and burned. He was tortured. His mother wanted the newspaper to know her sons story. She wanted them to know why Zach was there, what kind of person he was and that he was not a homeless dude who's life didn't matter because he was on the street. Zach was left on the streets when Larry turned him away. He could have came back home if they had not taken his life.
I don't know what kind of job he was interested in getting. I think he had worked in a greenhouse or nursery before being laid off. St. Elmo is a small town so it's hard to get a good paying steady job. St. Louis seemed to be the answer at the time.
Hopefully we will get more answers soon and hopefully we won't get them from the paper. We didn't know his arm and leg are still missing until reading the Post.

I find it unacceptable that your family had to learn such disturbing details in the press. I am so sorry about that. That is not OK. I also hope that the press will continue to follow this story. I know that Zach (is this the spelling your family uses, as I've seen both?) was very important to many people but even murders of the homeless, the mentally ill, and the disenfranchised are important to me. With just a tiny twist of fate, the murdered person could be any of us.

I realize that the words, "occult", "satanic", and "torture chamber" sell papers. However, if those words play a part in the crime, I don't want the press or the public to turn away. We all remember the Satanic hysteria of the 80's. Much was disproved but that does NOT mean that Satanic practices don't occur. I understand that some Satanists might be hard-core and some might be dabblers. That matters not a whit if someone is murdered. I'm sure you've read my posts upthread concerning the information I've found. Murders with Satanic elements still surface and the victims deserve our research. I refuse turn away.

Back to Zach. If you've read many of my posts, you might have noticed that I'm the parent of 14 unique children. My background is in child development and child advocacy. I was wondering if you could tell us a little about Zach's personality. I've recently had two sons take to the street and one is "witnessing" as he's recently been "born again". He's gotten himself into some mighty tight spots trying to be too friendly with people who are not. Our son is very gullible and immature and was totally inexperienced with the streets before he left on his 18th birthday to go to a teen shelter in Portland. Thank goodness, they accepted him. He does not read cues very well and fails to back off when he should. The streets proved to be far more than he was ready for.

I'd really appreciate it if you could tell us a little about Zach.

We are a huge family. My grandmother is one of 12 brothers and sisters so Zach (Zachary Paul as the family calls him) has hundreds of cousins. My mother is his mothers cousin. We have a family reunion every yr. but I haven't been since I was twelve so the only info. I can give you on his personality is that he was very religious, kind, would give someone all his money if they asked because according to him they needed it more than he did. He didn't care for materialistic things. His mom sums it up by posting a song for him, Simple Man. Before he left for St. Louis he stopped at a quick shop and saw a girl employee taking out the trash and got out and grabbed the trash from her and threw it away. He was liked by everyone and if his name came up you could bet someone would say, "He's a good kid."

Please don't stop posting your conversations just because I replied to them. I have been reading them for awhile and almost didn't post because I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable posting anymore. It's almost as if you are doing your own investigation and every little bit helps. We have actually learned a lot from your site and a few others.

I hate to say it Lilalicea but this thread has been slow. Once we got started we found quite a lot (which has been picked up by other sites) but the news has died down. Trust me, there are at least three of us who are spending a good bit of time on this case. As I've said above, it really weighs on my heart. And remember, late in the evening, things often die down as many posters are on the east coast. I'm in Oregon. I often post late and then read the responses the next morning. Please keep checking.

I cannot get over the feeling that Zachary Paul cannot be the only victim. Iagulli did not just get mad at a young man and decide to do this.

May I ask what Iagulli was doing when he was seen in St. Elmo? His MS photos looked to be taken in a home. Was that home in St. Elmo?

Also wondering if you'd seen that odd comment by someone wondering what has happened to all the stray dogs and cats in that area. I've been down this road personally and that statement scares me.

Another question you might be able to answer. Why is there so much confusion about a "cart"? It struck me as odd that Zachary Paul would be pushing a cart around after only a few days in the city. Did he take a large amount of things with him...possibly food or clothing to share? Was his cell phone found? How about his wallet and ID?
