Thanks mtnlites. Does it end by being blocked or overgrown etc or was there more support structure that carried the rail that is now not there etc?

What physically stops you continuing where the rails used to run after the bridge?

Sorry to be so thickskulled :)

Both ends of the bridge have been built up with earth and gravel to make them more easily accessible for getting off and on. With funding low, though, this land ramp isn't maintained well and it washes away easily. On one end of the bridge, there's a big railroad tie that acts as kind of a "step", though if you step down on the right side, it's pretty even with the ground. On the other end you have more of the "ramp". The trail doesn't technically continue, though in the colder months you can still see a little footpath. Some of it is gravel and then it turns into dirt. You can walk about 75 feet more but then you run into some big, wooden sawhorse-like things stretching across the path. There's nothing technically stopping you from walking around them, but it's private property from then on.

Thank you for your descriptions. It's the first time I've been able to visualize the area. I get confused easily...I like your style!

That's great, thanks again mtnlites :)

Also if you search something like walking the old monon railroad Delphi on YouTube someone did a video(a rail fan) probably like 4 -5 yrs ago maybe longer.
They walk much of the old abandoned monon rail line through Delphi and it was so overgrown in spots that they had to skip parts. It was posted somewhere in the early threads and I can’t recall the exact name of the video, but it gives an excellent perspective

If you search for some of the bridge videos, too, you can see just how deteriorated parts of the bridge are. There are some boards with big old knotholes, some missing boards altogether, some that have been weathered down, etc. It might offer a better idea as to how difficult it truly is to walk across it and why, for that reason, BG's gait may not have been his typical one.

Great to have local knowledge on a thread.

Possibly dumb Q ahead ( and almost cert asked before!)

Ive seen video and maps etc of the SE end of the bridge but somehow just cant visualise or rationalise.

Given that the bridge carried rail, how does the trail ( of the rail line) terminate so decisively , so as to make continuation impossible, given that the rail track must have continued on when it was functional? :)
Not a dumb question. Because I'm sure many of us have wondered if the girls could have gone any further from the end of the bridge.

My feeling is that if it's true that either or both were nervous of BG heading towards them, they likely didn't want to wander away from the trail, into the woods, where in their minds they would have been even more isolated. If they were fearful at that point, they probably just wanted to hurry back across the bridge and back to the pick up location. Poor girls. Him putting them in that position pi**es me off to no end.

I would be very interested in seeing this.
I watched it as well and found it fascinating. I loved how he talked to the family members. Caring and gentle, never pushing for any gruesome facts. It feels like I 'know' a little about the girls now. Very well done IMO.

this is making a lot of sense to me actually. the jeans look too big. and the coat. If YBG was wearing his dad's clothes, they may truly need the witness to clear up if this is a younger man or older man (father or son).

Big, baggy jeans are the style. Not saying it's a good look but I'll bet they're comfortable.

Regarding if he pushed one girl off the bridge to control the other. I’m going to have to say the new addition of the audio “guys” refers to both girls (plural) so he had both girls going down the hill and did not push one off the bridge. MOO

Agree.

I 100% agree that no one was pushed off the bridge.

I saw a video, no talking just walking, of someone walking from where the girls were let off across the bridge and then down the hill. I have to say there were some very treacherous looking areas on that bridge. I don't think you could get me to cross that, no way no how! I'd be afraid of some areas just breaking with a person's weight.

I used to think that the train literally had to stop there and couldn't go any further. But, to answer your question, there used to be rails that would take you right on to your next destination. The trail didn't end as decisively as it does now.

(snipped by me for focus)
So then at least a part of the Monon Bridge High Trail was a terminus (for the trains that used to use the now non-existent rails)? Yes? (from a train "junkie":-)) Interesting.

Thanks, @mtnlites, for providing "insider" knowledge on the local area; much appreciated!

I'm not taking any possibility off the table at this point.
Let's all pray for advancement to an arrest. It's due time.

Amateur opinion and speculation

I really think we would have heard if one had been pushed off the bridge, rather than being found quite a ways away. jmo

Yah it didn't happen

We know very little, but the facts we do know don't seem to support that particular theory

IMO

so would it be fair to say BG targeted that specific trial because once the girls were on the bridge and got to the end there was nowhere to go except backtrack across the bridge?
and would you say that it extremely unlikely that anyone would suddenly appear oncoming then?
this is making so much sense to me.
thank you ML in advance already your posts today have sorted a lot in my mind :-)
