I'm sorry to quote my own post but in light of what we've seen - how can Ortiz say this? What about the part where his client sticks his head out the window???
JMO

SA sticks his head out the window and looks downward. He probably noticed activity on the dock and proceeded to lift Chloe up and out to watch what was going on. I'm not familiar with "toss the child" or "scare the kid" games, so I'll assume that Grandpa wanted Chloe to see what was going on below.

knowing what we now know - isn't it even more awful thinking about how the Dad was in their last interview - I'm betting he watched some of the video since he is a police officer - I think he would want to know how this "accident" happened to his precious child in detail. The CBS reporter is fielding a lot of anger on twitter in my opinion. David Begnaud on Twitter

ETA - remember Dad is the one who took this photograph

I guess Ortiz must have seen a different video ;)
There are probably more views of the incident. There's a fish eye camera directly behind the window this happened at from the scene photos. I imagine that video hasn't been 'leaked' and is being saved for court

Makes me wonder which video Ortiz has seen. This side-on video shows a whole different aspect to me.

I have tried to give SA some benefit - wasn't watching carefully, was smoking, accidentally nudged Chloe while he was turning - but now it appears he was trying to hold Chloe's approx 20lb weight while leaning over a guardrail and Chloe was dropped.

I am sure that many people who tried to hold, say, a 20lb bag of potatoes while they were leaning way over a guardrail wouldn't be able to hold it for very long. Stupidity and weak/normal arm and hand strength appear to be the mode of Chloe's death. SMH

Him immediately collapsing was heart-breaking to me.

I can understand that. His immediate distress is visible. But WTH. What on earth was he thinking???

(PS I hope that you aren't called for jury duty in this case :D . No offense intended, but this man needs to be held accountable for his stupidity and blatant disregard of the purpose of the safety rail. Gambling with his own life is one thing, gambling with someone else's life is another.)

Grandfather of child who plunged to death from cruise ship doesn't want plea deal

Chloe was with her grandfather in the children's water park play area when her grandfather put her on a wood railing in front of a wall of glass windows, according to attorney Michael Winkleman.

Winkleman said the grandfather put Chloe on the railing thinking she'd bang on the glass. However, the window was open and she was "gone," Winkleman said in July, calling her death a "tragic accident that was preventable."

Dated Dec 17 - they still are getting their narrative out in the MSM that it's in the play area.

I think there might also be views from the dock. For sure, surveillance cameras on the dock would show whether or not and/or how far SA leaned out the window.

You seriously think grandpa thought he was gambling in any way with his grandchild's life?
What accountability do you require? The man's life is already ruined. Can you imagine the guilt?

PS- No offense but I hope you are not called either.

Have you seen the video that everyone is talking about?

Yes, the adult play area. Bar clearly visible. Adults milling around. Barely any kids visible.

It pissed me off, actually. Why would you lift a tiny baby up over your head, into an 11th story window ledge, and then collapse in surprise when she drops from your grasp:?

Yes, he was gambling.
I would like to see the accountability that acts as a deterrent for others to flout the rules of the ship and more people to be accidentally hurt/killed. His personal guilty feelings are not going to deter others from ignoring the safety rail. But if he is punished, maybe the punishment will deter others.
This isn't just about him ... this is about prosecutors ensuring (as best they can) that others aren't so foolish-acting in the future and another innocent life is not lost.

Yes, I have seen videos. Lack of smarts does not make him a monster trying to kill his grandkid.

I think he was gambling with her life. Who puts a vulnerable baby in the window ledge , 11 stories above a concrete pavement? That is an awful gamble, in my opinion.

IMO that video shows a lot more than a simple "lack of smarts".

Do you believe that it is the cruise company's fault that this sweet baby died?

No... but I surely don't believe he was trying in any way to harm his grandchild.

I wonder if someone leaked the video because they don't agree with the plea deal. After seeing the video, that plea deal is not appropriate. Not at all.

I most respectfully disagree. We all have our own opinions, it seems.
