I agree, neither would I. Unfortunately the parents (and SA) opened themselves up to public scrutiny and criticism the minute they appeared on the Today Show, CBS, NBC and the FOP at South Bend.

The fact that the parents appeared on those programs isn't going to change public opinion on social media that they are at fault. The parents of Lane Graves were vilified and they didn't do any media interviews. It seems to be be a sport for some posters to pick away and vilify parents. I prefer not to participate.

Colour blind people still see colour. They just don't see the same colour as a 'normal-visioned' person. We have shown that via previous links about colour blindness.

It is really quite obvious that the closed windows have colour (whichever colour the person sees) and the open windows have no colour.

Especially as Winkleman is saying 'just one window was open in a wall of glass'. That open window and its clear appearance would have stood out like a sore thumb, among the other windows of colour.

It is also obvious which windows are open due to the fact that they do not slide open all the way.

Come on people, stop talking “color blindness “. Etc. Please, It’s a red herring. Seriously.... this creepy man is a con man, a liar. We have to
acknowledge the truth.

I believed the parents when they said they didn't want the older brother to see it. I wouldn't want my children to see it. I also wouldn't want any member of my family convicted of a crime in the court of public opinion.

JMO

But it is ok for the family to convict RCCL in the court of public opinion? Got it.

Too bad for them that the video was released.

It is. This doesn’t come down to his senses failing. It wasn’t his sense of sight, and it wasn’t his sense of touch.

It was his common sense.

Don’t put children in insanely dangerous situations, and everything will be ok.

At trial, the burden will be on the prosecution, not the defense. The mother, an attorney, is asking for an investigation into the leaking of the video. I don't blame her. In the U.S., the media doesn't assist the prosecution by trying to taint the defendant prior to trial. I can think of no better example than Richard Jewell.

I'm pretty confident that if this had happened in the U.S., there would be no prosecution of the grandfather.

JMO
Why did the family agree to Winkle showing the video to reporters? You don’t tell a secret if you want to keep it secret. Why would you agree to release a video if you didn’t want it shown?

Whose to say a reporter didn’t video it with his phone, or someone in Winkle’s office?

  • #586
I wouldn’t want him to see it either, but in today’s tech world The only way he won’t see it will be due to his own determination not to watch it.
Yes. Self control doesn't seem to be a high priority 'family value' for this particular family.

BBM. Because the cruise lines are a major source of tourist income to San Juan. Embarrass and humiliate the parents and maybe the civil lawsuit will go away. That might work in another country but it isn't going to work in the U.S.

JMO

As with all of us, you are absolutely entitled to your own opinions. But you cannot have your own unique facts. This is more than once that you have declared Puerto Rico as not in the United States, when you must know that it is. Their laws as a territory may differ from your state's laws, just as all states have their own laws.
I will have to take your word that you've seen the video. We all have. Over and over. There is nowhere in any released part that shows Chloe lifting her arms up to SA to be picked up. We can assume she may have. Certainly all my grandchildren do that. Yes, we grandparents pick them up when they do that, but we do not then proceed to dangle them out of 11th story windows. Especially when we already know the window is open because we've bent our body halfway out of it prior to shoving our grandchild through the window.

The wrongful death civil lawsuit will only go away under two conditions and none of them include embarrassment or humiliation. That assertion is nonsensical and baseless.

Cruise lines are a billion-dollar business. The suit will end either by a non-disclosure settlement paid by the cruise lines insurance carrier or by the plaintiff's failure to prove 4 elements of law by a preponderance of the evidence. That's it.

I’ve said this before, but even the story that he lifted her up to bang on the glass, really grinds my gears.

This isn’t a hockey rink, where that sort of thing is not only accepted, but is regularly encouraged. The glass is made for that.

This is a cruise ship, with passengers trying to enjoy themselves. We’re trying to live in a society here.

Most parents or grandparents would say “don’t bang on the glass,” if a kid was doing that.

This guy would have us believe that he was trying to help his granddaughter do just that.

Annoy everyone around her, smudge the windows for someone else to clean, and perhaps expose her to injury (in the very unlikely event the glass broke or something).

Either way, what the hell?!

Yes, thank you, @MassGuy ....... Common sense. Not sure how anyone can see it differently ,....Don’t put children in insanely dangerous situations.

It's not highly suspect to me and I doubt it will be to the court.

It is condition present at birth. SA may have suspected it for many years but nothing tragic resulted from it. Now that tragedy has resulted, he may have been searching for reasons why he assumed the window was closed.

JMO

If his alleged colorblindness was so severe that he could not distinguish a tinted window from open air, I am sure his disability would have caused him enough problems prior to this for which he would have sought medical attention.

I'll agree to disagree. Your rudeness is why I don't wish to reply.
JMO

The lady doth protest too much,
methinks.

But sure we can agree to disagree. :D

Embarrass and humiliate the parents? Sadly I don't think that's possible.

What happened to the days when if a tragedy like this occurred, most people would own up to their poor decisions and hang their head in sorrow and shame? Instead, people can now practically toss a baby out of a clearly open window and not only blame everyone and everything else for it, they also don't even have to do any jail time! Instead they can file a lawsuit and make millions. Just think about that for a minute! This baby girl had her whole life ahead of her, it was cruelly taken away from her for absolutely no reason whatsoever so that Grandpa could get his kicks! And I'm sorry but this shifting of responsibility and shameless money grab by the parents is a slap in the face to their dead daughter. The cruise line is not responsible in any way for what happened to Chloe. RIP sweet Chloe, you have been failed on so many levels :(.

Seriously. I can't even imagine any even close to responsible adult doing this. So, yeah, it's really mind boggling and heartbreaking, all at the same time. Incomprehensible.
