I wonder whether anyone involved in the case (parents, lawyers, other family members) is reading our comments here. I'm curious how AW's parents (Chloe's paternal grandparents) and KW's biological father (Chloe's maternal grandfather) view SA's actions and whether they agree with their son's and daughter-in-law's position that Chloe's step-grandfather is blameless and that RCCL is responsible for her death.
I think their silence speaks to that...IMO

Things that make me go hmmmm.

First: the mycase filing of the wrongful death claim so soon after the accident.

and then stumbling on this article: Baby who died on cruise ship had local ties

...”Local grandparents are Dr. Thomas and Maryann Wiegand. Other family members also live in Angola.”

one guess as to what he is a doctor of...
YES, and here is another very early article. It is dated July 11th, and Winkelman is already onboard.

Attorney for Granger family of toddler who fell from cruise ship says company was negligent

Attorney for Granger family of toddler who fell from cruise ship says company was negligent

SOUTH BEND — An attorney for the Granger family whose 18-month-old daughter died after falling from a cruise ship is disputing what authorities said happened and claims Royal Caribbean Cruise Line was negligent in the toddler’s death, citing a “hidden danger” on the ship.

Initial reports from San Juan indicated the girl’s grandfather, Salvatore Anello, lost his grip while holding the girl. A spokesman for the local Port Authority told CNN the girl was playing with her grandfather in a dining hall on the 11th deck. The dining area has large windows, and one pane was open, according to that report.

The grandfather sat the girl in the window and lost his balance, CNN quoted the Port Authority spokesman saying, and the girl fell to her death.

But at a Tuesday news conference, Michael Winkleman, a Miami attorney representing the family, said Anello was with Chloe in a children’s play area and lifted her onto a wooden railing to look out the window. It was a large wall of windows and Anello could not tell the pane was open, Winkleman said.

Chloe went to bang on the glass like she does at her 10-year-old brother’s hockey games, Winkleman said. He blamed the cruise line for having windows that passengers can open in a children’s play area.

The attorney said he didn’t know why the original reports told a different account of the incident but pointed out that there is security footage from the ship he is waiting to receive.

very interesting they used Chicago attorneys to open probate in little old St Joseph County rather than a local probate attorney....

Am I terrible for actually wanting this to go to trial? I want to know what was really going on for little Chloe to die as she did. I hope and pray RCCL is quietly investigating the parents and grandparents until they know how much lint they have in their belly buttons and absolutely nukes this family if that is what it takes for the real truth to be revealed.
Oh! Believe me, I want the criminal trial to move forward. No plea deal anymore after all this absurd posturing by SA and the Wiegands. I believe the truth will come out.
I don’t want the civil case to go to trial because there is a remote chance some bleeding heart jurors will rule in favor of the Wiegands.

Thank you. I do try to stay calm and rational but am afraid my emotional side is winning today.
My sibling and I have strong reason to believe one of our parents has Borderline Personality Disorder with a strong Narcissist side.
I feel so sorry for Chloe’s brother. Our, my sibling and I, truth is hard cold reality is better than gaslighting, manipulative half-truths much less outright lies, etc.
Better to surgically lance the abscess and the earlier the better....
YMMV (your mileage may vary)
*Time to take a break from the keyboard for today and waste time on Pinterest. Love and hugs to everyone vested in little Chloe’s interests and searching for truth and justice.*

Oh , that old deceptive gem “Anello was with Chloe in a children’s play area and lifted her onto a wooden railing to look out the window. It was a large wall of windows and Anello could not tell the pane was
open

What is it about SA that makes his wife stand by his side? He is responsible for the death of her grandbaby. Did he put a hex on her so she believes whatever comes out of his mouth? I guess I relate to her because we're about the same age and I don't know how they go about their daily lives. JMO etc.

Well I'll be.... can't believe I missed that before .
Ditto! Maybe I’m colorblind? ;)

Nah, I guess I was just focused on the one charged with neglect. The one who dropped her.

Cruisers: Acknowledging Guest Conduct Policies?
@katydid23 :) Agreeing w ^. Sorry to circle back to a topic from yesterday in midst of lively discussion about new motion. Gotta go read it. Nevertheless, barging right in. ---
Why not email ea adult pax to request/require sign to ack GCPolicy? Possibilities:
--- Some pax do not have email.

--- Some pax would not respond, either neglecting/forgetting to sign or refusing to sign.
--- Too much admin hassle for RCL to acquire email address for ea adult pax.
--- Process of securing pax ack'mt at dock pre-board would ruin the guest experience.

--- Pax inclined to ignore GCP w/sign to ack receipt, then some w/ignore GCP, get injured, and sue.
--- RCL experience in litigation shows that pax ack'mt of GCP is not given any/much legal significance.
--- Or???

Cruisers: What has your experience been? One person handles for all in party, w cruise line making no pre-cruise contact w other pax? (I know a couple ppl have posted to this effect.) Or?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Historic: Went on cruise in a party of five ~25 yrs ago when hard copy & snail mail prevailed for booking. Back then from cruise line/corp administrative standpoint, it was easier & cheaper for corp to deal w one person in a group (re payment, booking dates, passport info, dining/seating pref's, etc) rather than five ppl, esp w five different mailing addresses.
Current: From corp admin. angle, handling ^ by email seems soooo much easier than the headache inducing hard copy.
Seems that it would not be terribly difficult for cruise lines to email some pre-cruise communications w each of their adult passengers to secure acknowledgement of & agreement w GCP. Seems cruise lines would want to snag those email addresses for other reasons as well: conducting customer post-cruise satisfaction/experience surveys, for loyalty/affinity clubs, and other post-cruise marketing, special offers. Pretty sure this ^ and more has crossed corp minds. But seems RCL doesn't require ea adult pax to ack GCP pre-cruise.

Have cruised 10+ times. All my experience with RCCL is with my immediate family (wife & minor kids). Our first few cruises did inolve a printed paper version of the cruise ticket contract so both my wife and I signed our own and one of us signed taking responsibility for the kids. Since going electronic and completing all of the checkin process online ahead of time typically I check all of us in and select the confirm acceptance of cruise contract for your entire party option. I do not know how this option is affected for adults travelling together in the same party but not immediate family members of each other OR for adults with seperate cabins. Perhaps someone else has more recent experience with this.

Defendant. They were the one being sued.

Snipped and BBM

You can find the docket online however I don't speak Spanish so I'm dealing with a language barrier trying to navigate the site too much, but I don't think you can actually download any documents at this stage. Depending on what phase of criminal procedure they are in, most actual stuff isn't available to the general public until there's been a verdict to protect the integrity of the case/witnesses/etc. Appellate stuff you can find easy and download pretty much anything but otherwise, both sides want their cards pretty close to their chests.
Once again, Kindred, thank you so much for your important contributions to the team. I see that the next event is just another status conference, not expecting much excitement. I wonder when anything interesting will happen.

This doesn't bother me. I imagine they probably want to go with someone unknown vs someone they know. I think it would be kind of oogie for discuss very personal things with someone you may run into at the grocery store down the road.

So as an optometrist, Dr Wiegand would know that SA's claim that his colorblindness prevents him from knowing whether a window is open or closed is a bunch of malarkey.
