An IMPD officer is alert and talking after she was shot five times Saturday afternoon. Three others were also injured during the incident including the suspect.

Indianapolis crime: Officer, others shot on city's northwest side

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to the 6400 block of Kentstone Drive for a person shot about 3:40 p.m. When officers arrived they discovered two people with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals. One was in critical condition and the other was in stable condition as of 6:20 p.m.

"During the investigation a pursuit ensued and an IMPD officer was shot," a news release from the department stated.

21-year-old Keith Allender is accused of first shooting a 61-year-old woman while she was inside a car with a toddler, who was unharmed, and then shooting a 38-year-old man who was outside the car. Police believe the victims were Allender's neighbors.
