Found Deceased IN - Jacqueline Watts, 33, Columbus, 3 March 2017

Some drifters walk railroad tracks and maybe some walk along rivers...

A lot of them also set up camp along both of these as well. I know here in Indianapolis a lot of the homeless/drifter camps are in wooded areas or along a tree line by the White River or Rail Lines that seem to have limited vehicular traffic/access.

Hi! This is my first post. I found something interesting that says she was found on a sandbar in a park.

The Columbus Police Department say officers found Jacqueline Watts' body Saturday morning on a sandbar by the Flatrock River in the city's Noblitt Park. Authorities say they'll wait for autopsy results before commenting on a possible cause of death.

Your story reminds me of a guy I knew a few years back. He had gotten breakfast and the next thing his truck was parked high on top of a bridge running with the passenger door open, he was nowhere to be found. He either jumped or fell over the side of the bridge and his body was found in the harbor several days later. I do not believe he did suicide but there is not another explanation besides accident.

Also, I grew up in Wisconsin and we have several cricks that runs into a larger wide stream on the property. A couple summers ago I thought I would "walk through the crick" to get to the other side, it was only a couple feet deep and a few steps wide in one particular spot. What happened was I immediately sunk into the mud, quickly and really frightened myself. I had a heck of a hard time crawling out of that mud and I was mad at myself for being so stupid.

So, I can understand her having an accident.
Condolences to Jacqueline's family and loved ones.

I just thought of something. Over 15+ years ago, the mother of one of my students dropped him off at elementary school, dropped her twins off at daycare and then approached a very high large bridge over a major waterway. She threw the car in park, put hazards on and ran and jumped off the bridge. A police officer witnessed it and said there was no stopping her; she didn't hesitate.

It could be suicide and the family friend story a deflection off the true nature of her death. Maybe her family doesn't want everyone to know...

I don't necessarily believe this, but thought I would post it. It doesn't explain the open passenger side door.

There is some good information, pics and video on this reporters twitter feed

Based off that I put this quick map together of where the crime scene tape was (that was being removed) the car and where I believe the body was found.

I don't believe it was an accident...there are to many coincidences...and what are the chances it would be 120 miles away near 65...Jacqueline looks small in size and young. She does not look her age...

Yeah, the mom I referenced left her car on, purse inside, etc. her husband had trouble getting a job and was working a few states over. Her parents were both sick and she was the caretaker. Hers was clearly suicide, but the spontaneous type, no note, etc.

Erm, if that's the spot where she was found that doesn't seem like she could have slipped and drowned accidentally. That water looks pretty shallow there. Unless she hit her head or something I guess. JMO

Thanks for this! As for the flow of the river - would the body downstream from the police tape?

Strange...when you read the article it does state on a sandbar by the Flatrock River in the city's Noblitt Park however if you read the caption under the picture it reads Police remove the body of Jacqueline Watts from the scene where her body was found on a sandbar in the Flatrock River near Noblitt Park in Columbus, Ind., Saturday, March 4, 2017. Watts' body was discovered early Saturday. Her family reported her missing Friday afternoon. So was it in the river or by the river??

The current of the river and/or mud, as someone else noted, may have taken her by surprise.

It looks like the river flows southwest according to wiki. It is possible the current took her to the sandbar.

The autopsy will give the answers needed for further speculation. Based on no comments about foul play or crime, it seems that there was no obvious concern about a crime. I would say it is still suspicious and they would want anyone who saw anything, even if it was her initially pulling over, any other human or animal around, etc to come forward as they piece together what happened.

IMO, it seems to be a tragic accident.

I don’t think she was ever in that water. This article says her body was found on a sandbar BY the Flatrock River.

Are you freaking kidding?? That is an extremely far reaching suspicion. Check yourself. This woman is in extreme danger.

Please know I did not mean to offend or sound insensitive. Based on the facts reported to the public, the most realistic and logical conclusion (not suspicion) I can personally draw is that she left the car of her own volition and ended up in the water. There are only a few things that could motivate that end, a couple of which I covered. One of her pets escaping and her going after it is also a very good suggestion made by a poster upthread. I recognize you may know more than we do, but at this time, the fact is that she was indeed found in the river on the sandbar, and LE will not say anything more. Speculating that she was abducted or the car staged, or there is a fake cop or a sk is on the loose linked to Abby and Libby is way further reaching. JMO.

I haven't a clue what actually could have happened here. It is very sad and I hope they can solve it quickly.

Thanks for keeping us on the right side of the TOS. Just for verification, can we discuss the 'theory' that she had possibly stopped to help an animal?

The river was running higher and faster than usual - not sure if this surge was due to rainfall or snow melts upstream:
http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=ind&gage=flci3&prob_type=stage&source=hydrograph

That is what I was trying to ascertain too. The image from google maps is summertime. This is the closest I could find for possible comparison. March 2006. A big difference, even still levels are likely to be different, but the sand bar is still visible, much smaller though.

Nothing says she was found wet or in the river.

So, the autopsy is scheduled "tentatively" for Monday. I hope a determination can be made and it is not "inconclusive."

FTR I think it's all very potentially hinky, jmo, moo, imo. But there are always crazy coincidences here in WS. Again, going to refrain from speculation here, but t in the video Skibberina just posted of the officers walking the scene, the water looks very calm to me.
