No! Oh my god. I'll have to give it a read, how horrific!
That's what they say, little crime, but people have pulled up about five to seven cases of teens and women who've gone missing recently - very recently and over the past few years.
Do we have anyone on here local to Boonville, that might know specifically what businesses are open late Friday night, into Sat. morning? I do know there is a 24 hr Walmart and at least that Southside Bar. What about gas stations? Does St Marys have an emergency room, open at night?
This is a true mystery, isn't it?
I was pretty confident Kristy had an accident, but the longer this goes I'm losing that confidence. If foul play is involved, I think it was someone close to Kristy. They sure went out of their way to hide her car.
I'm starting to wonder if she didn't make it home and was accosted right there while she was looking for her phone. I'm feeling shades of the woman from Florida who was on a court tv show. I apologize for not remembering her name. IIRC her phone helped solve that case. It's a damn shame Kristy's phone was left at the VFW.

:websleuther:Yeah, it sure is a mystery...it's hard to make all the pieces of the evening fit logically together...I realize that can be said for many cases, but this one seems like it has some extra quirks to it.
And I am sorry if I sound like a broken record, but the cellphone thing is still something that I am hung up on (no pun intended).
Thanks to "woe.be.gone," I went back to re-read that interview of JVM with Kristy's Mom. Before I mention something that hit me upon re-reading it, I do remember either reading or seeing Kristy's father making a statement about talking to Kristy before she went out for the evening, and being that she left from her parent's house, it makes perfect sense that they both saw her before she left for the night (saw what she was wearing/what she brought with her, etc.)...
INTERVIEW SNIPPET:thinking:
Well, from that interview with JVM and the Mom, I noted this section, where JVM asked Kristy's Mom if she thought it was unusual that Kristy left her phone in the bathroom:
SCALES (Kristy's Mom): "You know, my mind has wondered both ways thinking, well maybe she was just using the restroom, didn`t want it to fall out of her pocket, laid it up on the shelf. But it`s very, very unlike her not to notice it, you know, like immediately not being in her pocket. Because you know, young girls, their phones are like attached to their hip anymore it seems like. And I just can`t imagine her not walking back in there."
Besides the fact that Kristy's Mom pretty much confirms her daughter was one who was "attached" to her phone, her Mom also twice refers to Kristy's phone being in her "pocket," so I am making a little assumption here that the Mom 1) knows that's where her daughter carries her phone all the time and/or 2) quite possibly, Kristy had no purse with her (like some women just do not take their purses into bars -- they just put their ID/phone and cash in their pocket). But her Mom never mentions a thing about Kristy having a purse or thinking Kristy would realize she hadn't put her phone in her "purse." Again, it is a bit of an assumption, but maybe a fairly reasonable one...that the cellphone was in Kristy's pocket that night -- not ever in a purse. So...
WHAT'S MY PROBLEM?
So here's my problem...let's say Kristy did just decide to leave the bar without telling her bartender friend she was leaving (again, I do still find that very odd, but I'll let it go and play that out as IF she did)...and I guess we can (for argument's sake) say she used the restroom before she left the bar...because, yes, her cellphone was left there. Yes, brilliant deduction, I know. LOL.
So here's the thing: I find it EVEN MORE unlikely that Kristy did not realize she was missing her phone almost immediately after leaving the bathroom...or at least realize it was not on her by the time she got out to her vehicle in the parking lot. Especially when she sat down in the SUV. Those who carry phones in their pockets probably know what I mean...if she was carrying it in her pocket, she would be able to tell almost right away, I would think...especially if it was her habit to have it in her pocket.
So then all I can think is that she would absolutely want to come right back inside the place to get her phone, right? I mean, why wouldn't she? She wouldn't want to retrieve it later, when she could just go get it.
TIMING IS EVERYTHING:camera:
But in this scenario, she did NOT come back inside to get her phone -- and so it COULD be argued that someone grabbed her at that point and restrained her in the car (I have not considered someone grabbing her in the bathroom or inside, only because it just seems unlikely to me that someone could pull that off with people still inside)...and I have read through recent threads and see the disparity in the time issue, as far as the estimate of when she left the VFW and when her car was shown passing by the ice cream place ...so again, just like it seems to be at almost every turn in this case, I am not sure what to weigh as "fact." Is there really a 20-minute time gap? If so, I agree that is very significant. Could there have been a struggle near or in her vehicle to account for that gap of time? It still seems hard to believe anyone would struggle with her in the parking lot when others were still in the place and could come out at any time, but I guess it is possible...and who knows exactly where she parked her vehicle, so maybe it was at a location where it was harder for someone to see it/hear her yell out. Just throwing out some ideas, as I go off the fact that the cellphone was in the bathroom.
I did see where someone said it's possible that someone stole her cellphone during the night -- yes, it's possible, but again, if she kept it in her pocket (if my assumption on that is correct), it is hard for me to see that as being a possibility...and if someone else (perp) puposefully put it in the bathroom after the fact, I have to say that is hard for me to imagine -- because the perp would then (again, going on my assumptions) have to head back into the VFW to place her phone there in the bathroom, with the risk of running into people. So that seems so unlikely to me. And I am just not going to "go there" in looking at anyone who worked at the VFW, because I truly have nothing at all to go on for that and feel like it would be unfair to speculate. So just looking at how this current scenario plays out...
But, setting aside the timing issue (and we may not be able to know how accurate the timeframe is) if the parking lot kidnapping occured, would we see 1) the vehicle being driven in the direction it was -- toward her house -- and 2) then back later? I guess that second siting of the vehicle is still not for certain. Taking Kristy in her own vehicle is a stretch for me, unless whoever grabbed her did not have a vehicle. I can see the possibilities of how she met up with foul play after willingly leaving the bar on her own accord -- but again, in my assumption that she would have realized her cellphone wasn't on her, those scenarios don't work for me because I never see her leaving the parking lot without wanting to go back inside to retrieve her phone...I am not saying I am right about this assumption regarding the cellphone -- but it is why I am "stuck."
IS THIS POST EVER ENDING?
Thanks (to anyone who bothered to read this) for letting me get out all my thoughts as to why I am stuck on the phone...just processing that out has freed up some much-needed space in my brain. But really, as I processed this out, it is the "maybe if this is true/right" then "perhaps this could be right" type of thing as to why this case is hard (for me) to come up with logical scenarios of what happened.
I'm not sure if anyone will even get what I am trying to say here (despite trying really hard to explain it and please forgive the length!)...but yes, I'm still thinking that cellphone being left is very odd and possibly does mean something in the scheme of this...and it's why I am leaning more toward this somehow being foul play -- despite not understanding the exact "hows" of that -- or the possibility of her having left abruptly (and possibly puposefully) left her cellphone behind -- but no real understanding of the "whys" of that either.
I don't like either of the two possible conclusions I am leaning toward. But her running off to assume a new life or having an accident seem less likely to me the more time that goes by, for obvious reasons and other reasons I won't get into...because this post is already record-breaking too long. But I also do not discount them as possibilities because given the right set of facts, of course they are possible.
POST FINALLY ENDS :happydance:
I'll get off the phone thing now. Promise!hone:

Do people there ever go to Interlake or Hoosier National forest?
Do the bridges over the Ohio River have cameras on them?
Does anyone know if her Xterra is a 4 wheel drive by chance? Do folks there go 4 wheeling or mud bogging, that sort of stuff....any where?
thank you
[/QUOTE]Yes, St Marys and Deaconess e-rooms would be open all night. But they are in Evansville, not Boonville. That would be the nearest hospital, though.
I don't know about your other questions. I do know the Hoosier Nat. Forest is a bit of a drive from the Boonville area.
Thx snoopy, I wasn't really thinking of after hours partying.....or if she even liked 4 wheeling....just interesting locales and routes of said activities
wonder if emergency there had anyone in that night
Also were any cars left around town that night, did anyone get a ride back to town Sat, or go pick someone up some where....

Post 142 (the new forum won't allow me to link an individual post - what's up with that?)
By the time I returned to Kristy's case, thread one was closed. Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions and thoughts at the end of thread one.
The link above is a transcript from the J. V. Mitchell show when Kristy's mom answered Jane's questions.
Earlier I posted that Kristy's phone was placed/left on a shelf in the VFW restroom by the cleaning person who found it. WRONG!
The shelf was only mentioned by Kristy's mom when she was imagining a scenario where Kristy may have placed it there (she used the word "shelf") so as not to drop it. Somehow my mind made a leap and twisted the story. Sorry.
The phone was left/found in the bathroom but where it was located (floor, sink, stall) I haven't read those details.
Plus, I thought the phone had been found before the employees left the building for the night. Someone responded that the phone wasn't discovered until the following morning. I'm unclear what, if anything, was done regarding the phone - if it was found on with battery power, or if it was found off without battery power, etc. Haven't read any of those details other than when someone heard Kristy was missing, they connected the phone left behind the night before might belong to her.
After Bingo ended by 10:30 p.m. (per an earlier post), how many people move over to the bar area and stay around? Does the group consist of mixed ages or mostly older people? Kristy is only 27. By older I mean people who could be her parents and older. Did Kristy play Bingo or just happen to be there on a Thursday night?
Okay y'all. Sorry about the confusion of which building. I am getting the info now. One second!
This is the VFW (confirmed by a local):
I'm not sure if it was sorted out where the VFW is located, but I thought I'd try to help too. Here are a few pics. The first one is of the VFW with the picnic shelter in back. The second is if you are on the main street. To the left, is a building (small) and I've drawn an arrow to the VFW. You can see it's set back down the main road quite a ways.
The third is if you are standing at the VFW parking and looking towards the main road. That gives you an idea how far off the main road it is.
Does this help?

There are a few pictures of a strip pit at this link. I believe the pit in this article is located about ten miles south of Boonville. Maybe a local can confirm that for us. http://www.courierpress.com/news/local-news/nearly-disposed

More here.

The pics of the stripper pits reminds me of ponds that you would find at a quarry.
Are there any rock quarry or limestone quarry in the area that are still operational or abandoned?
Are there any underground coal mines or any underground caves in the area?
