GUILTY IN - Ryan Martin, 29, murdered in suspect Talmadge Jasper's home, Lafayette, 23 May 2019

I got a different officer responding.

talmadge jasper | Carroll County Comet

All else the same.

Honor roll student up until 2016. Something happened then.

My comment was based on the search results in Boxer's link above.

When I clicked on the honor roll article for each one of thes . Tj name doesnt come up with the rest of them. Thats odd.

Can you post the article you are referencing? Thanks
TJ is on the list in 10th grade.
Could you post the link if you have it? What year was he in 10th grade. Was that 2017 or 2018?

@Boxer I haven't followed up much with this case over last couple months. What makes you think mom is trying to get him off or is that just your moo? I tried to look back on information to see if it had anything about parents but didn't see anything.

Boxer's original post

"From public records it appears TJ was living with his mother in Delphi attending Delphi Community High School before moving to Lafayette.
Who ever is paying Manahan is working with him to create the defense to deflect and minimize consequences."

As I understand it, there is a set way of doing this. The court will appoint two doctors to examine him and make a report so it will be those psychiatrists opinion the court will be guided by.
MOO

I have some of the same thoughts. So much of this case that doesn't make sense to me. Is it your MOO that TJ wasnt dumb or stupid or do you know him?
His record shows him on the Delphi HS quiz team so that shows he was clever. That is on record so it is not opinion IMO. :)
FTR I don't know him. I don't know about other posters.

Working at Arconic at the age of 18 is a pretty good paying job. He could possibly have money in savings. I wouldn't think he would have many bills.

I guess it depends how long he had been there and how much his flat rent and other costs would be.

According to the Oracle Alumni website he graduated in 2018 so he had only been at Arconic a year at most. Starting pay is around $15 an hour. He would have not saved much in a year IMO.

Defense for intentional Murder (Murder 1) is 100-150k.
Probably lawyer being paid by the family with property securing payment.

That's a pretty big chuck of money in MOO. Who knows if they have property or not. I have not seen anything mentioned about the parents on anything.

They will be securing a lawyer with assurance they can pay. It is MOO that their property is security.

I don't mean any offense whatsoever but if he has enough money to retain and continue to pay an attorney at his age, then something is wrong or he had another source of income. Have you ever paid one? People that have worked their entire life towards a comfortable retirement go broke and this is a serious crime/charge.

Jmo though.

I'm not saying he is paying for it all. Moo is I would thinking working that kind of job he could possibly have some in saving . Who knows who is paying for it. Imo I have always thought this case has more to it there is so much that just doesn't make sense. It will be interesting to see it all come out

MOO He became obsessed with a girl, probably she tried to break up with him and he took it very poorly. She ended up getting a restraining order. He decided that if he could not have her he would destroy her happiness.

What if the Insanity plea works? Is unintentional murder cheaper? Also, as he is under 21, is he still considered a minor and the parents are somehow responsible for funding this? I don't fully understand that bit.

I don't think so but that is just my opinion. He could at over 18 claim no income (which there is not now if in jail, etc.) and get a public defender at no cost to the parents most likely.

If parents fund a defense (which is going on for instance in the Ally Kostial case), it is generally because they want to get their child the "best" attorney they can afford for the child.

Jmo.

Do we think whoever is paying for TJ's attorney believes he is innocent? I just can't see basically giving away all that money when the outcome is going to be life in jail anyway. Unless they are super rich I guess but I don't think that is the case. It seems pretty likely that he did kill RM from what we know anyway.

Also, where did the $150,000 attorney price tag come from? I just briefly googled and couldn't find anything like that. I did find this that suggested a $25,000 retainer.

Perhaps, like in the Ying Ying Zhang case, the murderer begins with a private lawyer then may swop to a public defender. He got a top notch defense in the end that saved him from death row IMO.

From what I can see Indiana is a very lenient state. Even though they are a 3 strikes state.
It seems like they deal down so many charges to felony 6 and misdemeanors that they never get to the 2 serious felony convictions that need to precede a 3 strikes case.
I am sure the victims who were assaulted or robbed along the way had no say.

Can we finally put to rest the notions/speculations and shading of the victim Ryan Martin? TJ's attorneys are seeking "not guilty by reason of insanity." That means they are not disagreeing with any physical action of the murder of poor Ryan! (Mod please remove exclamation point if too harsh....but let my comment stay, please.) The attorneys are saying every action claimed by LE and prosecutors is absolutely correct...but that TJ's mental illness is the reason he should not be held criminally responsible for his actions. Okay. I have been thinking about this for a very long time... I feel his mental illness is a very real issue. However, he was capable of working a job, getting a new girlfriend, paying his rent, driving a car and possesses a clever mind. Should every criminal act or act of revenge/anger/jealousy always be excused because he is mentally ill? I think the mental illness factor is important in the type of sentencing/incarceration services available and special needs for someone with a severe and incurable mental illness. As for who is paying for his defense, I don't care....I have seen parents put up their homes as collateral for less severe charges. (...a client ended up losing her home because she took out a 2nd to finance her adult son's defense for rape.. He told his Mother it was consensual and the woman was angry because she found out he was married. When in truth, he followed the woman home, broke into her house, wore a mask and assaulted the woman at knife point.) It is what I would expect most Mothers would do.
