Indictment will be released...10/25/13

This has been a case that has long haunted me and left me with questions that were never answered. I have always felt that the investigation was muddled from the beginning and felt John and Patsy Ramsey were treated with kid gloves. I know I'm not alone in thinking there was something just off about the parents of JonBenet that went beyond a curt and often abrupt John and an overly medicated Patsy. It will be interesting to see if indeed it does go the way madeleine suggests as a possibility with the dead being used as a scapegoat to take the blame for everything. Thanks to all who have provided links on the release of the indictment.

~If you put all the pieces pertaining to this case in a puzzle box, gave them a vigorous shake, when you snapped the last piece into place it would still be Casey Anthony.~

I found it all so disturbing, I kind of went from the brother did it to the parents. What bothers me about the parents though is why leave her body in the house....it seemed to just implicate them straight away.

I wondered straight away if the brother did it, maybe jealous of all the attention, and the parents tried to cover it up but made it worse for them...I have no idea not really followed it much as it seemed to go know where.

Someone said to me that a 12 year old would not be capable of sexual assault and murder but thats not true it happens sadly....

I hope there will be a resolution soon though for the poor beautiful girl who's life was taken from her at such a young age. x

Interesting article while we wait....

The decision — both not to prosecute the case and to ultimately release the document — are unprecedented in Colorado, legal analysts said Thursday. But that just makes it one more peculiar detail in a saga brimming with the bizarre that continues to captivate public attention.

******************************

Michael Tracy rears his ugly head again too. He ought to just shut up and go away, he along with Lacy, Hunter, and Smit did irreparable damage to this case.

When asked if Hunter was obligated to release the information about the indictment without anyone asking him to do so, First Amendment attorney Steven Zansberg said, "I think the Grand Jury indictment ought to have been presented in open court. It should have become a record of the court and at that point the public would have been made aware of it and then would have asked for it. I don’t think independently of that, that Mr. Hunter had a duty to provide it to the public without a request being made."

Indeed, police felt they had given Hunter plenty of ammunition to charge the Ramsey couple. Among the witnesses who had gone before the Grand Jury were the Ramseys’ housekeeper, the best friend with whom they’d spent Christmas, and her brother Burke. There had been handwriting and DNA testimony. (John and Patsy Ramsey were never called to testify.) But in the end, Hunter had decided it wasn’t enough to prosecute JonBenet’s parents for her death.

Hunter declined to comment for this story, saying, “I’m bound by my oath to the court and Colorado statutes governing Grand Jury proceedings.”

Since the day Hunter refused to indict, the Boulder grand jury that heard the case has been largely silent, avoiding the limelight despite the fact that their names and faces can be found with a simple Google search. The husband of one juror said in an interview that he still tries in vain to get his wife to talk about her experience: “My wife never told me anything, and I sleep with her!” Another juror declined an interview request with The Daily Beast, saying only, “This was not a case of ‘Twelve Angry Men.’ There wasn’t much argument at the end.”

One member of the jury was a Sierra Club Director. There were housewives, engineers, and nurses. The foreman was a fireworks expert and is one of three who have since passed away, taking precious information with him. Patsy Ramsey died in the summer of 2006. John Ramsey has remarried, and their son Burke has graduated from college with his own career. Life goes on.

John Ramsey declined repeated requests for comment. Through his attorneys, he told current District Attorney Stan Garnett that he opposed the release of the Grand Jury document unless the entire record was also opened to the public.

One of Ramsey’s attorneys, L. Lin Wood, said that the entire record would prove that there was no evidence implicating the Ramsey family. "This is just a snippet of a grand jury proceeding that went on for eighteen months. Let it all out! It's not fair,” said Wood in an interview. Regarding the recommendation of indicting the Ramseys for child abuse resulting in death, Wood said "it was an obvious compromise” on the part of the grand jury. They “wanted to go home so they looked at all of the charges and came up with? this one. The indictment didn't happen because there was no evidence there."

John and Patsy were cleared of any involvement in the death of JonBenet back in 2008, thanks to newly discovered DNA evidence.

Not much longer now-- it's evening here in NSW, so hopefully the indictment will be out & available when I get up in the morning. Darn time zones! ;)

I did just have a thought that sort of worried me: given that JR loves to play the sympathy card, I'd not be surprised if he has a sudden, convenient health issue pop up, know what I mean? Perhaps he'll claim he's having a heart attack as the stress of the whole situation will be getting to him. Then he can revel in some people saying "oh poor put-upon, sweet, innocent JR", etc. Anything to deflect the truth, any ploy... he and his criminal defense team are ever so good at manipulation.

Another thing I noticed is that on a few news article the press seems extremely biased in favour of Ramsey innocence, in spite of facts that are already out & known that point away from an intruder. Some of the articles flatly have their information wrong; guess the world of journalism ain't what it used to be. The thing that bugs me is I wonder if the press will still be supportive of the Ramsey BS, and if so, why? Is it because JBR's murder needs to be made even more salacious & horrifying by attributing to scary, stalking strangers in order to sell papers/get web hits/etc.? Or is it because the truth of parents who kill (even by accident or neglect) is just too awful to comprehend, so it is easier to imagine strangers?

Just some random thoughts, see you all a bit later!

BBM. I wonder if it's in part that they are scared of being sued for slander since JR would likely go down that road if they dare post anything going against what Mary Lacy said -- and since these indictments were recommended prior to ML's (ridiculous) statement of innocence to the press, I could see JR saying that any insinuation that he, PR, or BR had anything to do with JBR's death was not only unsupported by the "facts" of the case (i.e. the DNA...grrrr) but was slanderous and open to lawsuit. However, statistics I think would back my comment up that it is more likely that a male adult (unless he was homosexual) would sexually assault his daughter rather than her 12 year old brother.

Also, statistics would show that is it usually one of the parents who is more likely to murder a child to cover up the sexual abuse.

And often the father has sexually abused the child with the permission of the mother who no longer wants sexual relations with her husband.

As JonBenet was a child beauty pageant Queen, IMO she was sexualised by her mother to not only attract awards and possibly money but also Patsy's husband's sexual attention.

Perhaps JR worried that JB would talk at school about the possible sexual abuse so it was time to shut her up. IMO the parents were in collusion but JR was the perpetrator. She was a really beautiful child.

Just marking my spot... Waiting for the GJ indictment docs to be released today...

1999 indictment released in JonBenet slaying

P. SOLOMON BANDA, AP

DENVER (AP) — A grand jury indictment issued in 1999 in the JonBenet Ramsey investigation will be released Friday, and should shed more light on why prosecutors decided against pursuing charges against the little girl's parents.

The grand jury reviewed evidence against John and Patsy Ramsey three years after the 6-year-old beauty queen's body was found bludgeoned and strangled in their home in Boulder on Dec. 26, 1996. A series of possible charges were considered by grand jurors but it's not clear whether they voted to charge one or both parents.

The Ramseys maintained their innocence, offering a $100,000 reward for the killer and mounting a newspaper campaign seeking evidence.

The district attorney at the time, Alex Hunter, who presented the evidence to the grand jury, declined to pursue charges saying: "I and my prosecutorial team believe we do not have sufficient evidence to warrant the filing of charges against anyone who has been investigated at this time."

Hunter did not return a phone message left Thursday by The Associated Press...

Perhaps JB was left in the house because of a twisted type of remorse ? It was so very cold outside. Same reason that she was wrapped in a blanket. Both of these things tell of someone very close to her being the killer(s). But,they were unable to help themselves ; they couldn't just toss her naked little body out in the cold someplace...jmo moo Possibly one of the few times that they felt such remorse. jmo moo

It reminds me so much of the Madeline McCann case. They sue anyone who disagrees with their version of the facts too.

Is it just me or was this the quickest court case ever? From the time Brennan filed the suit, to when the documents were released, was it even a month? I guess the fact that neither Garnett or Ramsey decided to fight it (besides writing a letter) and the fact that they used a retired judge instead of a judge who has other cases to oversee, probably played a part.

Okay, does the judge actually have to go to the courtroom to release it? Or can he just give the word, and they will put it online? Just trying to think of what time this is going to be released. Or has he given a time for it?

Apologies for what appears to be another stupid question:

I understand why John Ramsey would object to the release of the secret grand jury indictment, but why would he call for the release of the entire grand jury record?

Thanks!

IMO, since the indictment is going to be released, JR wants L. Smit's intruder
theory to be put out there so the world can see Lou's defense of the Ramseys. It is my understanding that
Lou testified before the GJ.

So J/P never testified before this GJ
But FW DID
Burke did
the houskeeper did
Lou did
do we know who else did

Lin Wood was not even in the room..so how does he know the jurors compromised and just wanted to go home....

Waiting for this to be released reminds me of taking the kids on a long car ride, and every few minutes one of them would say, "are we there yet?"
Last night, when I used google, I found an article that said 18 pages would be released, and that 9 would pertain to JR, and 9 would be about PR.

Agreed! When Charlie Brennan filed the suit I recall thinking, 'Oh Groan, somewhere around 2014, it will be denied". Thankfully, I was wrong.

Finally the Ramsey tide has turned and we're moving in the right direction.

It is 8:12 in CO right now.I am in NY,so they are 2 hrs behind me

the courts should opened about 9 right..
