Thank you @tricia for reopening this thread!

What a historical day. Thankfully this dangerous dictator is gone. My prayer is for Iran to be able to choose a leader that will allow them to have the country that the people want.
It really is. I was concerned this was going to end in another bad deal, or we’d see something more limited that would accomplish nothing.

The regime has never been weaker, and this is their one and only shot to accomplish their (us and Israel) goals before Iran can reconstitute its terror apparatus.

It’s been a remarkable couple years.

Iran’s terror proxies have been demolished (Hamas, Hezbollah), and that has allowed the US and Israel to finally take on the head of the octopus.

Iran is disputing the claims that senior officials of their administration are deceased. Though massive explosions were heard in the area where their govt offices are.

"The statements we are hearing from sources in Tehran directly contradict the claim made by Trump regarding the alleged death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Iran’s foreign minister stated in an interview that, to his knowledge, the Supreme Leader, the Iranian President, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and the Speaker of Parliament are all alive.
In addition, the head of public relations for the Office of the Supreme Leader posted on social media that these reports are part of “psychological warfare” conducted by Iran’s enemies.

However, it is important to note that yesterday we heard several massive explosions near the Pasteur neighbourhood — the area where the offices of Iran’s supreme leader and president are located, along with certain military headquarters and universities.

So, we are dealing with an uncertain and fluid situation."

BBM Not sure where you are getting your information that "he just goes in there and starts shooting" this has been in the works for weeks, if not months. President Trump has tried to make a no nukes deal with Iran. The Secretary of State went to the gang of eight earlier this week, congressional leadership have been kept in the loop. We have been moving assets into the middle east for weeks now. Iran's leadership was well aware of the dangerous games they have been playing.

Regarding the Obama agreement with Iran. Yes there was an agreement that Iran never fully honored and Obama never held them accountable as they continued their efforts towards building nuclear weapons - Here's a link from Trump's first term. This is no surprise - President Donald J. Trump is Ending United States Participation in an Unacceptable Iran Deal – The White House

No one wants war and this president has done more to reduce international conflict in a little over a year than any other president. President Trump's job is to protect America and Americans - a nuclear Iran was never going to happen. He has stated it hundreds of times.

Edited to add President Trump's statement for those that may have missed it -
I think there is a very strong argument to assert the opposite.

To the chagrin of voters who were excited about Trump's promises of America first and no more wars, Trump created international instability and weakened the US.

It is awful to imagine life in Iran ATM, and very unlikely there are people on the ground thankful for the violence caused by the USA, by the no more wars president.

Trump just wants people to forget that there is an affordability crisis in the US, few job opportunities for Gen Z and younger, rising medical costs, and a secret police force called ICE killing citizens extrajudicially.

Oh, and Trumps name is all over the Epstein files.

This illegal military action is not a sign peace is coming. It is not being celebrated in Iran.

It is a war crime from a president who promised America First.

I am heartbroken that my money through my taxes was spent on this violence.

I wish for peace.

"Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from threatening international peace and security," Carney said in a speech at the Canada-India Growth and Investment Forum in Mumbai on Saturday.

"Canada's position remains clear: The Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East, has one of the world's worst human rights records and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons."
...
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said on social media his party supports "the courageous people of Iran in toppling this terror regime and reclaiming their destiny after 47 years of the regime's occupation."
...
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet said on social media in French that his party "recognizes the persistent threat posed by the Iranian regime to the security of the region and the freedom of Iranians," but has concerns the U.S. is using military force without the approval of Congress.

So you genuinely want a country that has killed tens of thousands of innocent people (to include countless Americans over the years) to be able to build up its weapons stockpiles, fund its terror proxies, and continue work towards the bomb?

A country that is arming Russia and helping them kill innocent people in Ukraine.

Right now they’re showing who they are, intentionally attacking hotels and airports and other civilian areas.

This was the natural progression of October 7, when Hamas (funded by Iran) launched its attack.

Time to finish the regime.

Another senior administration official described the final talks in Geneva with Iranian officials and revealed the astonishing offer the Americans made.

“One of the things we offered – we said, we will give you free nuclear fuel forever,” the official said. “And they basically said that didn’t work for them. They needed to enrich uranium.”

Post like this will cause this thread to be closed, is this the goal?? This has nothing to about Epstein.

Our world is a safer place tonight because that dictator is gone. I stop before I get time out because this post is not worth it.

Thank you. You have very succinctly summed up the whole situation.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

There not going to be a war as far as the US is concerned. This is a naval and Air Force operation. There is no universe where US boots are on the ground.

It’ll last days or weeks, and that will be the end of it.

Exactly. We want a democratic, free Iran. This attack will make that goal even more remote.

More USAF Stratotankers coming in. Can anyone explain any of what has been seen on the flight tracking and what we might expect to see and what it all means?

Are these possibly support craft for another wave of strikes on Iran? Support craft for missile interceptors over allied countries???

Tourists trapped at airports, oil prices soaring, expectation is that regional leaders will push for renewed negotiations.

"The airspace of Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE has been closed. Thousands of people are stranded at airports after their flights were canceled.
...

Iran now appears to have also closed the Strait of Hormuz , one of the world's most important shipping routes, through which some 20 percent of all fossil fuels pass annually. According to an official with the EU naval mission Aspides, ships are receiving messages from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard stating that no ship is permitted to pass through the strait.
...

Oil prices have already reacted strongly to the unrest in the Gulf region. Brent crude was around $70 a barrel this morning and has since risen to $73.
...

Influential Iran analyst Vali Nasr writes that Iran is now focusing on absorbing US and Israeli attacks, escalating the conflict in a controlled manner, and forcing regional actors to mediate a ceasefire. "They expect that if Trump doesn't achieve a quick victory, he will look for a way out."

Retaliation for this might be hitting a foreign hotel: Dubai.

"During the Israeli and US attacks on Iran, a girls' school in Minab, a city in the south of the country, was reportedly hit, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.

The primary school was hit, according to Iranian authorities. At least 63 students were reportedly killed and 92 others injured. Dozens more students are reportedly trapped under the rubble. Emergency services are working to free them, IRNA reports."

I so wish that the reputed 30,000 Iranians who protested the government regime and were killed by the ayatollah’s goons would have lived long enough to see this day. The day they longed for to the point of public protests that they likely knew they wouldn’t survive.

Yes, war is ghastly. CNN said there were 40 people killed in an apartment building in Tel Aviv. They were civilians. And the children who died in Iran were innocent as well.

But it is the Islamist regime who stripped their people of freedom, and my prayer is that they will grasp at this remarkable opportunity to live freely.

IMO this is like killing Bin Laden. Get the bad guys out of here so the people can be free.

ETA: update from Israeli news channel 14 in NYC revised the Tel Aviv apartment building deaths to one, and 20 injured.

$70 to $73 sounds like a very minor increase to me. For a major event I'd expect at least $150. I realise the current low prices might not support $150, but even so, $3 is a tiny increase. If the strait of Hormuz is blocked for a week or more I would expect oil prices to go up quite a bit more. I'm not all that up on current oil prices, I admit. But if the markets foresaw something long term and major that would last for months I think they'd react stronger than this?

But I have noticed that things like this tend to happen at weekends when markets are closed so that no one can watch the markets react in real time and things have a chance to settle before Monday morning opening in Europe.
