Israel’s UN envoy Danny Danon told reporters the Lebanese government should act now against Hezbollah to prevent further escalation.

Authorities have put out a limited fire in the vicinity of the U.S. consulate in Dubai due to a drone strike and no injuries were reported, Dubai’s media office said.

Smoke was seen rising from an area near the consulate, two witnesses told Reuters.

"I'd be very surprised if we went in for some sort of retaliatory attacks in the middle of... the chaos which this war is turning into," he said.

The UK will continue to defend its military facilities in the area of the conflict - but it is not at war, Clarke added.

If the UK air force did respond by sending Typhoon jets to drop bombs on Iranian targets, they would be "lost in the plethora of targets which have been hit anyway", Clarke explained.

He added that such a move would make little difference but would make the Iranians "angry".

More now on reports of a drone strike near the US consulate in Dubai.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirms a drone struck a parking lot adjacent to the consulate building.

"As I came in, I also saw the media reports about Dubai's consulate. The last update I had with seconds before getting before these cameras was that a drone unfortunately struck a parking lot adjacent to the to the Chancery building, and then set off a fire in that place," he says.

"All personnel are accounted for. As you're aware, we began drawing down personnel from our diplomatic facilities in advance of this," Rubio adds.

He says: "But our embassies and our diplomatic facilities are under direct attack from a terroristic regime".

The consulate is located in a heavily populated part of the city - close to the British embassy and Saudi consulate.

I think the Iranian people are amongst of the bravest in the world right now (Ukrainians are right up there for me too).

Imagine taking to the streets of your nation by the millions, unarmed, to knowingly protest and die for your right to freedom. Knowing full well what you are up against with your "leaders". For the the right not to be executed because your hair showed from under a mandated hijab (for women), to not have an eye gouged out for wearing makeup, to be able to do such a simple thing as dance, to not be hung from a crane due to your sexuality. For the right to choose who and how you want to be led. For the right to actually have a trial before your execution where you actually have legal representation and not some religious zealot just 'decide'. Where your family is not charged the cost of the bullet that they killed you with.

Just imagine. I can because I have watched their uprising, their cries for freedom, the many of them who have posted their "Last Words" to the world "in case" they should be killed by the Regime. IMO, last words which also include things like 'if I am killed by an airstrike, do not blame Israel or America for it was the Ayatollah who caused this to me". They are all over twitter.

Do regime changes need to be "recent"? I mean, they've happened. Pol Pot is gone (The now-deceased Ayatollah was on-track to beat that psycho's numbers based upon his 48 hour total of innocents massacred on Jan 8 and 9 of his year. Yes, IMO it's time. It's enough already. And it certainly seems that it's not just the US and Israel saying so.

May this region finally see some semblance of peace at the end of all this. The region deserve it. And every single one of them all also deserves to not be terrorized. Ever.

Iran has armed ethnic separatist groups. They are just not ethnic Iranians. Rather, they are Kurds, Balochis, and a series of other smaller groups.

Though the disputes are ethnic / political, the fact that many minority groups in Iran are Sunni Muslims and the government is Shia muslim probably does not help either.

Few may remember but even recently, before COVID, there were seats for Sunni, Christians, even a Jew in Iranian parliament. Of course it was more of a show, but to show that predominantly-Shia Iran was willing to work with its religious minorities was a smart thing. I think they excluded Bahais, and I don't know enough details about that religion to understand, why. (Growing too fast, perhaps?). But from its start, Persia existed as a multi-cultural empire, whose subjects were not required to change own religions. They were required to pay taxes to Persia. So the arrival of Islam did not totally obliterate the old ways.

Iranian state TV has broadcast the funerals today of students killed in what Iranian authorities have said was a US-Israeli strike on a school in southern Iran on Saturday.

Coffins draped in the flag of the Islamic Republic could be seen being carried through a large crowd.

The broadcast was accompanied by a voiceover recounting the grief of mothers and fathers who had lost their daughters.

It was also claimed that more than 160 graves have been prepared for those killed in the strike.

The girls’ school is near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) base which has previously been targeted.

US Central Command said it was looking into reports of what happened while the Israeli military said it was “not aware” of any operations in the area.
