Ireland - Tina Satchwell, 45, Youghal, Co. Cork, 20 March 2017 *arrest*

  • #601
Richard Satchwell replied "guilty, or not guilty, guilty" when charged with the murder of his wife Tina Satchwell, the Central Criminal Court has heard.

Under cross examination from defence counsel, Brendan Grehan, Gda Kelleher said he did not recall gardaí explaining to Mr Satchwell the difference between murder and other forms of homicide, such as manslaughter, at any stage.

Gda Kelleher agreed that Mr Satchwell had admitted to gardaí that he had lied about his wife having disappeared when he was rearrested following the discovery of her body. He agreed that Mr Satchwell told them she died during a struggle with him and had not deviated from that position throughout his detention.

Good many years to concoct a story if the first story of walked out with savings didn't hold up . So self defence was always going to be the back up .

Both scenarios portray RS as the victim, typical narcissistic personality response to having done something to hurt another . Let's face it he was never going to rock up to the Dock with a true version of events after the big lie and cover up at the start .

Small comfort I know but at least Tina's remains have been returned to her family and they are not still dealing with not knowing where tina is and that justice hopefully will be served . Its just the how ? I don't think will ever be truly answered because RS believes he is the victim and he goes well out of his way to try convince people he is not a monster . I personally think " one doth protest too much "

Seems to me the defence are going for a technical mistake by garda judging by line of questioning in your post or unfair trial as his lawyer seems to be implying by bring up social media and pap walk . I suppose when caught red handed what other angle are his defence going to come in at I really hope garda made sure all angles were sewn up before handing in the book of evidence because if RS got off on a technicality it would for sure play into his victim mentality and bring untold sorrow to Tina's family

The latest witness at the trial, Detective David Kelleher, said that after he arrested Satchwell for murder and he was cautioned. He said Satchwell replied: “Guilty or not guilty, guilty.”

The following week, on March 26, 2017, he met Satchwell at another car boot sale in Castletownroche. He claimed that after asking where his wife was, Satchwell told him that Mrs Satchwell was a “street angel, house devil”, alleging that she had been violent, had knocked his teeth out and that she had since left him.

The witness gave evidence that Satchwell told him he had been beaten by his wife the previous week. “I said she wouldn’t hurt a child,” he added.

Another witness, Angela Sheehan, told the trial she knew Mrs Satchwell from attending the local swimming pool. She said: “She was a lovely girl, pleasant to talk to, bubbly and good for a laugh."

Yesterday, witnesses described how they knew the Satchwells from car boot sales and how Tina would reportedly 'never hurt Richard because she loved him so much.' Read the full report on Day 12 proceedings here.

The trial today enters its 13th day today. Follow along with LIVE updates from the courtroom below, courtesy of the Irish Mirror.

For clarity, the witness next mentioned is not Det. Kelleher, but John Keohane.

Sorry, I can't remember which on of our lovely sleuths first posited the bed as the locus of the death, but this little snippet that we haven't heard before lends credence to the theory!

(ETA: evidence of Assistant State Pathologist Margot Bolster)

For the non-Irish sleuths who may not know, St Bernard was the labelling/brand used by Dunnes Stores up to 2013

That was me thank you for reference ❤️

I wonder by soiled would it mean bodily fluids from decomposition post death or bodily fluids such as urine released in fright on cusp of dying .

Would make a massive difference in proving tina was not killed at bottom of stairs as claimed but laying or sitting on bed

I 100% think rs and Tina argued in the bedroom or prehaps living room . It was morning time as tina had her purse in her pocket . Maybe She was asking rs to go to the shop as he states .

If anyone can recall being in college and studying for exams and we write bullet points on the yellow sticky notes . I feel all rs says are the main bullet points and his victim narrative is conducted around those points. Akin to a song or poem constructed from a few rhyming words .

He needed the bullet point system to not stray from his "truth"

The big question is why kill Tina that morning, was he jealous and paranoid and the previous days conversation regarding her done up ,being for another man obviously in totally jest but did a paranoid RS take it as not so . Did he accuse Tina of being with another man and that's why he speaks about them not having sex Plenty of survivors of domestic abuse will tell you this is an argument they have expierenced many times someone makes a joke and the abuser turns it against you . Just a thought .

Speaking of his references to their sex life and his claim that tina loved herself too much to harm herself . These are also frequent claims from abusive partners . Many abusers will often quote ' ah she / he loves herself/ himself when they are jealous of a partner. It is a red flag very early on in a relationship and people often think its said in jest . It is not ,it is hiding a jealous streak . With the strong potential to make you a victim of DV

JMO it's very simple. She said she was leaving him. Always the most dangerous time for a partner in an abusive relationship. I suspect he killed her Sunday night (could have had the purse out to give him money for the pizzas). Spent the night thinking up the Dungarvan "alibi" etc.

I'm trying to figure out his logic for saying he found her keys on the floor. I presume he's suggesting she posted them back through the letterbox but if that was my made-up story I'd be adding details like that, ie they were just behind the door, but I haven't seen that said by him anywhere. Can anyone else recall anything like that?

Also her phone, he could have lobbed that into the harbour they live right beside, why say she left it behind? My thinking there is that he was paying the account for it, so he wanted to use it for himself, but again I've not seen anywhere that he did start using it himself.

I think his logic for the keys being on the floor was to give the idea that Tina had posted them back through the door as she was leaving forever, never coming back. I bet he actually did post them through the letterbox himself and 'found them there' when he came back, hoping someone would see him find them, looking all puzzled and victimy. JMO.

Now it must be said nobody could ever accuse me of being a good liar, but wouldn't you be saying "I found her keys, she must have posted them back in when she left." instead of just finding them on the floor? I don't recall any specific he ever said about where on the floor? Probably overthinking this one. 🤣

"When I returned two hours later she wasn’t there. I found her keys on the ground as I walked in. She’d normally be watching MTV or some other chat show but there was no sign of her.

This must be where we get the 'keys were behind the door' JMO

Ah great find well done, that's probably as close as I could expect to my attempt at a lie 🤣

Having told the barrister on Monday that she did not have Tina’s records with her, the witness said yesterday she had expected to find Ms Satchwell’s notes.

However, Dr O’Grady said she had since gone through 11 boxes of records from 1991 to 2001 and there were no notes of her dealings with Ms Satchwell.

She said she had no legal obligation to hold onto patient notes which are more than eight years old.

The witness said any time Ms Satchwell had attended her surgery for consultations she was accompanied by her husband, Richard.

Dr O’Grady told Mr Grehan she had “most certainly not” seen his client when he had marks on his face and denied telling the accused he had to put up with it or leave.

“I would never have said that to a patient,” she added.

She said she had no recollection of the accused attending her surgery when his “face was destroyed by Tina’s nails”.

Could he have initially attacked Tina in the bathroom and then things escalated and moved into the bedroom? He replaced the standalone shower with a press. He switched out the bath. He did a lot of "renovating" in the bathroom, that coincidentally would have involved a lot of glass removal, by the sounds of it. And the glass used in the bathroom would probably have been the same type of glass they found in association with Tina's remains, the tempered glass. And RS made this big production out of talking about how it was a ritual for him to draw Tina's bath, probably in an attempt to make it appear "the standard" that he'd be in the bathroom often at the same time as Tina. The remains were so skeletonized by the time they recovered Tina's remains, they can't spot external injuries or marks. (And I'm sure that was his plan all along, to buy time until they wouldn't be able to pinpoint cause of death.)

And thinking through this further, I'm trying to find more information on the robe and pajamas. Basically, these glass shards were pretty large. They know generally where on Tina's body they were located. Are there tears in the clothing that correspond to/"line up" with points where the shard were found on her body? The shards weren't all in the scalp. And there exists the possibility, I would think, that he killed her in the shower and dressed her afterwards. We suspect at least that he placed the purse in the robe pocket, correct? Because I doubt she'd naturally have a purse in her robe pocket. (?)

Totally agreed with those saying she was planning to leave him, and he'd caught on. But really, it could have been anything he perceived as some insult, and my guess is he'd engaged in long-term abuse of Tina.

JMO, no doubt in my mind at all that this vicious murderer's "renovating" was an attempt to conceal his crimes. This guy's a shameless liar and horror. He'only slightly less crazy than he is dangerous, jmo.
