Is a trafficking ring involved in this case?

I saw that Portland Police and MCSO were both mentioned in msnbc article as being involved in the national sting/bust of the child sex ring that made news this week...I wonder if some of what they found out while investigating this case, crossed with things they were looking into regarding Kyron? And that they found out a lot of upsetting things they wish they hadn't?

While not leading to Kyron, they may have had investigations crossover?

I don't see a story on msnbc.com. Do you have a link? Thanks!

Unfortunately, (or fortunately) they didn't find Kyron, but I would not be at all surprised if looking into possibilities of Kyron's disappearance brought about this successful sting. Way to go Kyron!!! He's working in ways we could never understand.

My first thought when I saw the article on CNN and saw "Washington" in the body was OMG! Kyron! I so prayed I would see he was recovered with the others since the proximity is tight. I, too, wonder if Portland being mentioned is more than coincidence. I think the Innocence Lost project and the PD were all working in tandem and that this may have more to do with Kyron than we think. Although it didnt lead to him I believe his investigation may well be what led to the others being found. As Ive said before, this little boy has changed so many lives....he may well be the reason others were saved today...still holding out hope for his miracle!

pseudoephedrine is not a prescription medication. it is over the counter and is stored behind the pharmacists. customers get the medication from them - no prescription needed.

Pseudoephedrine is not regulated by State's but by the Federal Government (FDA). Each business selling pseudoephedrine has to attend a class online before they are allowed to sell it. There is also a limit that each person can get per store.

In order to obtain this for a meth lab they would have to spend 24-48 hours going to over 100 stores to purchase it. If a business is found to be selling more than the law states they will be fined up to $50,000 and face time in prison. But of course this is the Federal Government, they enact laws however they never inforce them.

I had no idea this had gone federal, but Oregon was the first to pass it back in 2005, I know, I voted for it!

SALEM -- The Oregon Legislature took a major step Wednesday toward passage of a first-in-the-nation bill requiring prescriptions for cold and allergy medicines containing an ingredient used to make methamphetamine.

The House voted 55-4 to send the bill to the Senate even as legislators said they knew that many of their constituents would resent the inconvenience and expense of having to get a prescription for common drugs such as Sudafed and Claritin D.

Sponsors said they expected the measure to swiftly pass the Senate and be signed into law by Gov. Ted Kulongoski.

As much as I would love to be able to attribute Kyron's case with this successful sting, I don't think it had anything to do with it. This was part of a national operation that has been given a lot of air play. All over the country stings happened, including, IIRC, in Texas. Many Somalian mafia members were said to have played a part in the trafficking circle. Several Somalian girls were rescued in these stings.

In any event, these traffickers are trafficking in adolescents and teenagers - not little children, like our Kyron.

I think it could be the other way around, that MCSO looked into the possibilities as a matter of course and got wind of the upcoming sting...I do think I read somewhere that 3 children were from Oregon? But I do not have a link.

It's a nice thought... but unlikely.

Portland made a simple change of LE philosophy about a year ago: to treat minors picked up for prostitution as victims of sexual abuse rather than juvenile criminals.

It seems like a no-brainer to treat a minor as a victim of sexual abuse when picked up for prostitution but this was a big change, since the overwhelming majority of jurisdictions treat anyone picked up for prostitution as a criminal regardless of age.

All of sudden, when LE started treating these kids as though they were victims rather than criminals, they started gathering all sorts of information about how these kids are recruited or kidnapped (many of the non-English speaking minors working as prostitutes were discovered to have been abducted <shudder>) and how they are moved from big city to big city.

And voila, big sting!

I believe there is a thread either in the jury room or the parking lot regarding this.

Meth cooks have adapted their recipes. The newest recipe is called "shake-and-bake" and it fits in a 20-ounce bottle. It only requires a handful of pseudoephedrine and in four hours it can make enough meth for the addict's next high.

^ I don't think Terri was a smurf driving to hundreds of stores every day to buy pseudoephedrine for crime rings. Knowing that meth can be made in an empty Mountain Dew bottle with a handfull of pseudoephedrine, I do wonder what medication Terri was trying to buy and going store to store (on June 4th)?

see, that pisses me off, in that, i have chronic sinusitis and its the only thing that helps the congestion. it absolutely infuriates me that between druggies and irresponsible parents, that my future treatment options will be less effectual because of them. i know that the day is coming that nationwide, this stuff will be illegal and no longer available. however, i've never been a big fan of the fda - food or drug end, and i digress. ;)
