ISAAC - Information and Support for Gulf Coast Residents

Don't know if this has been posted before. New Orleans has greatly improved it's pumping stations with back up generators.

Most of Katrina's nearly 1,800 deaths occurred when the protective levees around New Orleans failed, flooding the city. But Landrieu said the levees have had $10 billion in improvements since 2005, and the city's pump stations have backup generators ready in case of electrical outages.

One of those stations is the biggest in the world, and some can move as much as 150,000 gallons per second.

"This is the best system that the greater New Orleans area has ever seen," said Col. Ed Fleming of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Here's a web site that shows updated web cam pictures every minute on Lake Pontchartrain. North and South

And here's a list of 6 web cams scattered around NOLA. 2 of the Mississippi. My internet connection is crap, so I don't know if they work.

I love to watch the web cams.

Here's also the traffic cams. It takes a minute to load up the map, but just look for all the camera icons and click on that and you can see the roads.

Hey y'all.

I'm just north of Baton Rouge.

I'm outside drinking a cup of coffee and it's a little windy. Not much yet.
Calm before the storm.

I'm thinking of everyone and praying for yalls safety.

Bessie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone in your great city. 7 years to the day,can you believe that???

In the city, on relatively high ground near the river. This area didn't flood when the levees failed, so we were able to help my family members who did lose their homes.

Just heard the first big whoosh outside.

My husband and I had planned to leave around 4 am, but we made a decision tonight to hunker down and stay put. My son and a couple of other family members will join us in the morning, and we'll stick it out together. I'm sure we'll lose power at some point, but otherwise, I'm not too worried.

Oh good Bessie. I had already moved when Katrina hit but my old house was on Canal Blvd. in Lakeview and it was under water. Broke my heart. Glad you are in a higher area.

I'm in Lake Charles and even here they are predicting 30 to 60 mph wind gusts and tropical storms. I think y'all will be fine.....just hate no power!

Here's a very good outage map of La. Will give you a good idea of how bad this will get as it starts to light up.
You will have to zoom out a tad to see the whole area. The very bottom of La is already starting to lose some power. Don't know if that's b/c of the storm

I must admit, the anniversary thing freaks me out!

What are the odds!

I hope all of those nursing homes around New Orleans, Slidell area chose to evacuate this time.

I wasn't too worried until I read this:

"Approach of Isaac doesn't worry the Corps of Engineers"

Now I'm scared.
:giggle:

If they did it right this time, we should be okay.

That terrified me too. Reminds me of the dude who said the Titanic was unsinkable.

It's nowhere near OH at this time.

I didn't really mean the storm itself....just if that's where all the heavy clouds are coming from.

I still remember Ike. Was not pleasant at all. Even us that live way in the north still watch this stuff b/c the weather is coming straight up this way. Ike was terrible for us.

Ike eventually went through OH and caused some wind damage, but it was days after it made it to land. Isaac hasn't even made it on land yet. So Isaac isn't going to be causing any damage in OH right now.

Wind damage and multiple tornadoes. The winds were right about 80-90 mph in some parts. We had a tree fall on our house. And we were without electric for 9 days.

At this link below, is a map and if you look on the map you will see car's icon's flashing, if you mouse over it will tell you if they are live or not. These are storm chaser's. Right now there are 3. I'm watching the surf in Gulf Port now.

we are 55 miles north of lake ponchartrain. we have been waffling back and forth as isaac keeps changing his mind. for a long while it looked as if he would be a cat 2 when he got here, now not so much.

we live in a trailer, and weathered katrina here, i swore never again, but looks like he will be down to a tropical storm by time he gets to us, and we can deal with that. we are tied down securely, which we werent for katrina, so it shouldnt be as bad.

we have more stuff now too, a propane camp stove, lots of water and my other uncle has put his generator on his truck to go between 3 or 4 places to keep freezers frozen (we all live within a mile of each other)

if it does get to looking worse than it does now, im all packed up to go to my other uncle's house up the hill, but i really hope we dont have to.

keeping fingers crossed for a light landfall.

I think we're ready to go here too. Now just waiting. Finished my nervous cleaning a little while ago and about to make a pot of coffee and wash some of our sheets while waiting.
