Former senior US adviser says Netanyahu in 'precarious position'

Earlier, we reported that Israel's opposition leader Yair Lapid had called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down over his government's handling of the war.

A former senior political adviser in the US - Israel's major ally - has said Netanyahu is in a "precarious position politically" at home. Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Ben Rhodes said he anticipated a change of leadership at the end of the military operation in Gaza.

Rhodes - who was deputy national security adviser under US President Barack Obama - suggested that the operation was a matter of "political survival" for Netanyahu.

He said he had "no confidence" that the Israeli PM would lead the operation "humanely" or look to pursue peace, adding: "Nothing about Netanyahu's actions over the last 15 years suggest he has any interest in that."

Israel has repeatedly said its attacks are directed against Hamas operatives and infrastructure and that it minimises harm to civilians.

IDF says it is shelling sites in Lebanon after rockets fired at Israel

The IDF says that a number of missiles were fired from Lebanon toward northern communities in Israel recently, setting off air raid sirens.

The military says they likely fell in an open area, and the IDF is shelling the source of fire in response.

It also says that terrorists in Lebanon fired an anti-tank guided missile toward an IDF post in Dovev, and there were no injuries reported.

Provocation, misinformation, and constant questioning of valid and confirmed accounts.

I just read a few articles, one doctor said that he is happy that the IDF are inside the hospital because now the hospital is not being shot at. They might be feeling a bit safer.

Gaza Doctor Celebrates End Point to Attacks

Then I read another article where a hospital medic escaped to another town - apparently a few of the medics and others want to get away from the hospital - and IDF snipers are shooting at them. Probably thinking they are Hamas. imo

Escape from al-Shifa: How a Gaza medic dodged Israeli patrols, snipers
Interesting.

"Snipers" aren't "seen" (that's why they are called snipers). They are actually quite distanced from their targets. Their sights are exceptional and they can clearly identify their target and their status (combattant or non-combattant) from up to 3.5 kms away from it (A Canadian sniper holds the record BTW; he's former SOF and his story is in youtube. ISIS terrorists in Mosul, Iraq ... also includes great commentary about terrorist leader he was targetting coming out of a civilian house each time while holding a civilian woman in front of him [straight up cowards]. He gets this particular one eventually too, but his record shot took 9.8 seconds from trigger pull to bullet striking target).

Even C7s/M16s carried by regular troops have sights with optical lens' quite capable of distingishing clear features and targets out to 750 metres.

I suspect that you are correct ... Hamas is up to it's dirty old stuff again ... preventing and impeding it's innocent Gazan Palestinians from departing or moving to safe zones. Impeding the free movement of non-combattants to safety areas during conflict is a war crime.

Israeli commandos are searching through every building and every floor of Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital while hundreds of patients and medical staff remain in the complex, an Israeli military official said on Thursday.

“The operation is shaped by our understanding that there is well-hidden terrorist infrastructure in the complex,” the official said, according to Reuters, declining to be named.

Hamas weapons and equipment had been found in Al Shifa, the official said, adding that “Hamas has persistently worked to conceal infrastructure and cover up evidence” in Gaza’s hospitals. Hamas has denied operating out of medical facilities.

Hamas has transformed life-saving hospitals into death machines.

Hamas is systematically using hospitals in Gaza as terrorism hubs.

Hamas is INTENTIONALLY endangering the lives of Palestinian civilians.

Watch:

Dear "Women's rights organizations" and "activists" who have been SILENT since October 7th.

When you say "believe women" you really mean "believe women unless they're Israeli."

When you say you really mean "but not you (you're Israeli)."

When you say "your body, your choice" you really mean "but Israeli women had it coming to them."

We the women of Israel will not be silent. #BelieveIsraeliWomen #NoExcuses

Hamas and Islamic Jihad know a basic truth that apparently escapes so many observers:ISRAEL DOES NOT TARGET CIVILIANS.That's why terrorists go to such lengths to PRETEND TO BE CIVILIANS, so they can get away with their crimes.

I get it now

"From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free" is the opposite equivelant of "Pallywood" as the meaning of "Pallywood" has been explained in here.

Yet I keep seeing posts of protests etc with it being chanted as if it's Okie Dokey to be saying that.

Ughhhh.
It's catchy, but wrong. jmo

Mother of soldier who died in captivity: ‘The struggle for Noa’s return home isn’t over’

Family and friends of those held captive and missing in Gaza march into Modiin to meet with the parents of IDF soldier Noa Marciano who was killed in captivity.

Adi and Avi Marciano, Noa’s parents, come out to a park across from their home to greet and hug the other families.

[...]

Adi describes Noa as a wonderful daughter, a person of music and books, with a big heart, and a beloved big sister to her three younger siblings. She and her younger sister, Yuval, were like twins with only a year and seven months between them, says Adi Marciano.

She was a quiet leader who influenced those around her, says Adi Marciano, on the brink of tears.

“It’s important for me to tell everyone that the struggle for Noa and her return home isn’t over,” says Marciano. “I do not have a grave for Noa, there was no funeral.” Noa’s body is still in Gaza.

“I’m here to say we’re here with you for the struggle of our lives,” she says. “When I finish the shiva, I’ll return to Tel Aviv to be with you.”

The article @SouthAussie attached clearly identifies and puts blame on IDF.

At one point, Jawdat and a few others were stopped by Israeli soldiers, who made them stand with their hands up in the air, holding their IDs. One man scratched his head, Jawdat said, and was called over by the Israeli soldiers. He is not sure what happened to him after that.

At another point, “they took about 20 men and stripped them naked, beat them, humiliated them, then released them. It’s like whenever the soldiers get bored, they would pick one to bully and humiliate”.

IDF says it's still active in Al-Shifa Hospital as pressure grows to provide evidence of claims

More than 36 hours into a raid on Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson has told CNN that troops remain active both “inside and in the vicinity of the hospital complex.”

"Special forces are (conducting) very specific, contained operations,” the spokesperson said, in pursuit of what they believe to be Hamas infrastructure in the area of the complex.

The spokesperson said operations were being carried out without disturbing hospital patients.

Israel is under growing international pressure to uncover proof of what it has previously described as a Hamas command and control center under the hospital.

So far, it has been able to present firearms, body armor, and a laptop described as containing incriminating material, among other items, from its raid on the hospital.

But there has been no indication yet that Israeli forces have found tunnel shafts leading to the sort of multi-layered network of tunnels and underground chambers that officials have repeatedly suggested they expect to uncover.

The claim about tunnels under the complex has been denied by the militant group and hospital officials.

...
The tunnels are harder to tackle. The officer said several tonnes of the exploding gel - on which he declined to give any technical details, other than to say it is brought in by truck - are required for every few hundred metres of tunnel.
..... sometimes a secondary explosion set off by a tunnel destruction blast "will bring down a building a few hundred metres away".
...

With mapping robots and blast gel, Israel wages war on Hamas tunnels
Sponge Bombs.

Quite an advancement in war fighting I must say. Certainly brings more troops home safely.

“We couldn’t do much for the wounded. There’s no gauze, no oxygen, no supplies. All we could do was clean their wounds. Some of those who died, … all they needed was a little oxygen.”

The only respite, he said, was when the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was able to help them move the premature babies, all bundled up tightly to keep them as warm as possible without their incubators.

“The ICRC [got] us one hour to move the premature babies from the maternity ward to the reception hall,” Jawdat said.

“They also told us to stay away from the windows lest we get shot. We were, of course, so very ‘grateful’ to them for that warning,” he said wryly.

Hamas-run health ministry says parts of Al-Shifa hospital destroyed

More information now on the developing situation at Al-Shifa hospital, which Israel's military entered on Wednesday morning.

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said Israeli forces had "destroyed the radiology department, blew up the burns and kidney department" and were now "investigating doctors, the injured, and the displaced" at the hospital, the largest in Gaza.

The BBC has not verified the claims but is working to establish what is happening at the hospital.

Our team in Jerusalem has repeatedly tried to phone or send messages to three doctors at Al-Shifa since this morning, but has been unable to reach them. We don't know to what extent this is a localised issue or related to the telecom companies in Gaza running out of fuel.

The spokesperson said operations were being carried out without disturbing hospital patients.
