He continued: "You jackals must be exterminated completely. As someone who has been involved in intelligence all his life, performed operations at the level of your Mossad and even higher," Poghosyan stated. He then went on to say that Israel is lucky that he hasn't assisted either Hamas or Hezbollah, "if only my intellect worked for Hezbollah or Hamas, not [only] 1,000 of your people would have been killed [on October 7, where 1,200 were killed], but 100,000 people. I will consider the destruction of all of your people, as the highest act of justice."

Thank you for not questioning Hamas' propensity to attack innocent civilians.

Hamas is a terrorist group. We all know what they are capable of.

It would be nice to discuss other prevalent issues in this thread, without reverting back to Hamas as a way of deflecting other important conversation topics. Respectfully MOO.

Photos of hostages found on laptop computers at Al Shifa, IDF says

Gaza hospital director says Israeli soldiers have removed bodies from the hospital

We uncovered a lot of computers and other equipment which could really shed light on the current situation, hopefully regarding hostages as well," he said.

The military said that a photo of Or Megidish, the IDF soldier freed from captivity by forces at the start of the ground incursion into Gaza, were found on a laptop in the Hamas command center at Shifa Hospital. The photos were posted online before October 7.

In addition, the IDF told the BBC team that photos circulated and published by the Israel Police of interrogations of Hamas terrorists arrested after the massacre were also found. The IDF did not show the laptops to the reporters, however.

Conricus suggested that Hamas was there "within the last few days," according to the report.

"At the end of the day, this is just the tip of the iceberg," he said. "Hamas aren't here because they saw we were coming. This is probably what they were forced to leave behind. Our assessment is that there's much more."

According to the IDF, the forces are going "building by building and scanning floor by floor." All this, while there are still hundreds of patients and medical staff members. The IDF spokesperson clarified that so far not a single medical staff member or IDF soldier has been injured in the activity.

A graphic posted by NetBlocks shows the drop in connectivity in the Gaza Strip

NetBlocks, an organisation that monitors connectivity around the world, says live metrics show the Gaza Strip is "in the midst of a major internet outage".

"Telecom services including landline, cellular and wifi are likely to be unavailable to most residents at the present time," it adds in a post on X.

Palestinian communications company Jawwal confirmed this, saying that "all telecom services in Gaza have gone out of service as all energy sources sustaining the network have been depleted".

Gallant: IDF has cleared out western Gaza City, moving to ‘next phase’ of ground operation

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant says the Israel Defense Forces has located “significant findings” in Shifa Hospital, as it moves to the “next phase” of the ground operation.

He did not elaborate on the findings inside the hospital.

“The operation continues and it is carried out in a precise, selective, but very, very determined manner,” he says during a visit to the 36th Division’s command center.

He says the IDF has completed the capture of the western part of Gaza City, and cleared the area of any Hamas operatives and assets.

“The next phase has begun,” Gallant adds.

Israeli military says it could take weeks to fully search Al-Shifa hospital

A little earlier, Israeli military spokesperson Lt Col Jonathan Conricus spoke to our colleagues on BBC Radio 4's World at One programme, as the operation at Al-Shifa hospital continues.

Conricus says the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are working to "expose exactly the extent" of what it claims is Hamas's network underneath the hospital in Gaza City - but signalled this could take "a few weeks".

Hamas has denied operating a military base underneath the facility.

Overnight, the IDF allowed the BBC’s Lucy Williamson inside Al-Shifa - and showed her items they say belonged to Hamas, including weapons and other assets.

The IDF is yet to show evidence of a Hamas base or tunnel complex under the hospital.

However, Conricus says: "We haven't searched the whole hospital yet - not even close."

On any underground infrastructure, he says: "We will be able to assess it and hopefully share some footage of it."

Efforts to provide medical relief for Palestinians from the Gaza Strip should be concentrated within the besieged coastal enclave, Egypt’s foreign minister said on Thursday.

Egypt has received limited numbers of medical evacuees from Gaza this month, most of whom have been taken to Egyptian hospitals for treatment. One group of cancer patients that crossed into Egypt from Gaza was flown to Turkey on Wednesday, Reuters reports.

At a briefing for foreign media in Cairo, foreign minister Sameh Shoukrysaid:

We have to concentrate on getting medical facilities established inside of Gaza so it can be more accessible to Palestinians who are in need for medical assistance.
Shoukry also said there was no truth to reports that Israel and the US had put pressure on Cairo to take in refugees from Gaza in return for debt cancellation, reiterating that Palestinians could not be displaced from their homeland.

He said:

There’s absolutely no truth and no possibility of any form of displacement of Palestinians outside their homeland, their current location.
Egypt has repeatedly said it rejects any mass displacement of Palestinians from Gaza as Israel’s military campaign there has displaced hundreds of thousands of people towards the south of the territory and a humanitarian crisis has deepened.

All communications services out again in Gaza, say officials

All communications services are down across the Gaza Strip due to lack of fuel, Palestinian telecom provider Paltel says.

Paltel says the landline connection, mobile network and internet connection in Gaza have all dropped.

The head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees says a fuel shortage is to blame for the blackout.

“Gaza is again in a total communication blackout, and… it is because there is no fuel,” UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini tells a press conference in Geneva.

Concerning the snipers ...white flags people, white flags.

If you are a medic you definitely have access to white material. Unless you don't want Hamas to see you're leaving.

Police have arrested a suspect in the death of Paul Kessler — the Jewish man killed at the dueling Israel/Palestinian rallies in Ventura County last week. Loay Alnaji has been arrested for involuntary manslaughter. Bail set at $1 million.

With ALL due respect,

Hamas and their actions are just as relevent to this thread and discussion as Israel and their actons are. Hamas and their actions of 7 October is, after all, why we are here today.

It's a war and there are two sides. The truth is always somewhere in between.

Israel’s opposition leader, Yair Lapid, has repeated his call for prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign.

In a statement posted to social media on Thursday, Lapid said there would be broad support to form a unity government led by Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party. A translation of his statement by Reuters reads:

The time has come - we need to establish a national reconstruction government. Likud will lead it, Netanyahu and the extremists will be replaced, over 90 members of the Knesset will be partners in the coalition for healing and reconnection.
He added:

I hear those saying this is not the time. We waited 40 days, there is no more time. What we need now is a government that will deal with nothing other than security and the economy.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 12 on Wednesday, Lapid said “we can’t run an extended [military] operation with a prime minister we do not have faith in.”
