That's kinda scary. He's a hardliner and I'm afraid this 2% rating may be because he wasn't perceived as enough of a hardliner...
We will see.
I suspect that much of that drop actually had to do with the security failure that allowed these terrorists to get into Israel to commit these war crimes in the first place.

Nearly 240 Australians have landed in London on the first Australian-government backed repatriation flight from Israel, the foreign minister has confirmed.

Penny Wong said on Saturday that the Qantas-operated flight from Tel Aviv landed earlier on Saturday carrying 238 people. Overall, about 825 Australians had departed Israel and the occupied territories, she said.

“My department continues to assist a number of Australians seeking to leave Gaza, numbering about 20,” Wong said.

A second repatriation flight is due to leave on Saturday from Tel Aviv to Dubai. The government announced on Friday it would arrange an extra two charter flights, taking the total number to four.

Hi Sillybilly, thank you for finding Article 17. I also mentioned forcible transfer in my post #1,093 where Jan Egeland, the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, said:

“The Israeli military demand that 1.2 million civilians in northern Gaza relocate to its south within 24 hours, absent of any guarantees of safety or return, would amount to the war crime of forcible transfer. It must be reversed.

“The collective punishment of countless civilians, among them children, women, and the elderly, in retaliation for acts of horrible terror undertaken by armed men is illegal under international law.

“My colleagues inside Gaza confirm that there are countless people in the northern parts who have no means to safely relocate under the constant barrage of fire.

“The loss of civilian lives caused by deliberate or indiscriminate use of force is a war crime for which the perpetrators will have to answer. We fear that Israel may claim that Palestinians who could not flee northern Gaza can be erroneously held as directly participating in hostilities, and targeted.

“The United States, the UK, the European Union, and other Western and Arab Nations who have influence over the Israeli political and military leadership must demand that the illegal and impossible order to relocate is immediately rescinded.”

The Israeli military claims the order to Palestinians “is for your own safety”.

I guess it’s questionable if there are satisfactory conditions of shelter, hygiene, health, safety and nutrition or whether they are being compelled to leave their own territory for reasons connected with the conflict. I have no further knowledge of forcible transfer in war situations or Article 17, just from what I have been reading today.
I'm just stunned Israel is taking this risk. It means that more lives will be lost because they projected their intent. Yes it's good in terms of saving life, but it means that they'll suffer more losses than they otherwise would have.

Hamas welcomes Russia's offer for mediation, praises Putin's position

From CNN's Kareem El Damanhoury

Hamas, the militant Islamic group that governs Gaza, said in a statement Saturday morning (local time) that it welcomes "Russia's tireless efforts" aimed at stopping Israel's aggression against the territory.

"[We] appreciate Russian President Vladimir Putin's position regarding the ongoing Zionist aggression against our people and his rejection of the Gaza siege, the cutting of relief supplies, and the targeting of safe civilians there," the statement read.

What Putin has said: On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged both sides in the fighting between Israel and Hamas to "minimize or reduce to zero" civilian casualties, and the foreign ministry in Moscow made similar calls for calm on Friday.

His comments come as Russia continues a ruthless war campaign against Ukraine and is being investigated by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. That case includes, among other things, allegations of targeting civilians.

In addition to Putin's comments, the Russian envoy to the UN circulated a resolution calling for a ceasefire Friday.

Remember: Israel has ordered a “complete siege” on the crowded Gaza strip — including halting supplies of electricity, food, water, and fuel — while also bombarding the densely populated territory in retaliation for Hamas' devastating October 7 terror attacks. At least 1,900 Palestinians have been killed by near-constant shelling in Gaza, according to the health ministry, including journalists, medics and other civilians. The dead include 614 children and 370 women, says the Palestinian health ministry.

You’re in a lifeboat, surrounded by sharks that want to kill you. That’s Israel.
Yes my friend. But prayer changes things.

Those sharks will keep coming. But one day they will face their own destruction. We may not live to see it but its coming. Until then, I’m in the lifeboat.

Israel’s military said early on Saturday it had struck a Hezbollah target in southern Lebanon in response to the “infiltration of unidentified aerial objects into Israel” and fire on an Israeli drone. The military intercepted the objects and the fire on its drone, it said, according to a Reuters report.

Just saw on my local newscast about 100 Pro Palestine demonstrators on a busy road here in NC. At first blocking cars but after police showed and news came it settled to line the streets.
I am not going to link it.

Respectully edited by me. My .02 cents worth in Blue font.
“The Israeli military demand that 1.2 million civilians in northern Gaza relocate to its south within 24 hours, absent of any guarantees of safety or return, would amount to the war crime of forcible transfer. It must be reversed.
Nope; they are being advised to move south for their own protection. They also have the option to go or not. No "forcible" relocation whatsoever. This is not a war crime.
See how Israel cannot win? Advise them to evacute ---- cries of "It's a war crime!!" Don't let them evacuate --- "That's a war crime!!"
Here's the war crime: Hamas blocking the streets and preventing assage o their civilian population to the south.

“The collective punishment of countless civilians, among them children, women, and the elderly, in retaliation for acts of horrible terror undertaken by armed men is illegal under international law.
What collective punishment? Israel has advised the population to evacuate southwards for their own saety. No collective punishment there. The IDF is not deliberatly targetting civilians (non-combattants - unlike Hamas). The actual "War Crime" (a bonified crime against humanity) is the deliberate and methodical placement of legitimate military targets (communications, weapons storage, ammo depots, military planning and offices etc) in/under schools, mosques, places of historical significance, refugee camps and civilian residential areas. Norway should go talk to Hamas.

“My colleagues inside Gaza confirm that there are countless people in the northern parts who have no means to safely relocate under the constant barrage of fire.
Now if pesky little Hamas would just stop launching those rockets (Israel has the right to strike back at that/those) and get rid of the blockades keeping their own citizens "put" in the north where they are at risk woudn't that be great? War crimes against their own citizens by preventing their movement.

“The loss of civilian lives caused by deliberate or indiscriminate use of force is a war crime for which the perpetrators will have to answer. We fear that Israel may claim that Palestinians who could not flee northern Gaza can be erroneously held as directly participating in hostilities, and targeted.

I am a soldier - I am a legitimate target. Israel is roof-knocking, sending texts as to locatios of upcoming fire, phone calls and urging citizens to evacute south. That does not equal "indiscriminate targetting" or even the discriminate targetting of cvilians - rather the opposite. No war crimes there either. Israel knows what a "non-combattant" is and they will abide by that when they go in. Too bad Hamas doesn't care about those kind of things and just committed actual, bonified "Crimes Against Humanity" in the name of Palestine to both Israeli non-combattants and to their own citizens.

“The United States, the UK, the European Union, and other Western and Arab Nations who have influence over the Israeli political and military leadership must demand that the illegal and impossible order to relocate is immediately rescinded.”

The Israeli military claims the order to Palestinians “is for your own safety”.
Not illegal and certainly not a war crime. And I'll state once again for emphasis:

See how Israel cannot win? Advise them to evacute ---- cries of "It's a war crime!!" Don't let them evacuate --- "That's a war crime!!"

Israel targeted medical personnel during humanitarian missions, Palestinian Health Ministry says

From CNN's Mohammed Tawfeeq and Sharif Paget

The Palestinian Ministry of Health accused Israeli forces of the "targeting and killing of medical and ambulance personnel during their humanitarian missions to evacuate the victims of aggression."

CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces for comment. The IDF told CNN it will look into these allegations.

At least 15 health facilities were damaged and 23 ambulances were destroyed in airstrikes Friday, according to the Palestinian ministry.

A dramatic video posted on the ministry in Gaza's Facebook page captured the moment an ambulance was rocked by an explosion as it attempted to flee a chaotic scene.

In the video, explosions are heard going off when the person recording jumps into an ambulance. Several people can be seen inside the ambulance, including a woman on a stretcher and a young girl by her side.

An explosion rocks the ambulance carrying the child and woman. The young girl screams in panic as another explosion goes off.

It is not clear what happened to the woman and child. The exact source and cause of the explosion was unclear.

"The Israeli violations against medical personnel, health institutions, and ambulance units are a blatant attack on the laws, conventions, and international norms that stipulate the protection of medical personnel and their facilities during times of conflicts and wars," the Palestinian Ministry of Health said Friday in a statement.

The ministry also said that "thousands of displaced citizens are sleeping in hospital courtyards, facing the immense number of wounded individuals who are congesting the hospital corridors, putting immense pressure on the fragile healthcare system."

The ministry went on to call for "immediate action to open a secure passage to ensure the arrival of medical supplies, fuel, delegations, ambulance vehicles, and allow the departure of hundreds of wounded and patients before it is too late."

The ministry also accused Israeli forces of targeting people in Gaza as they were trying to evacuate their homes.

"The Israeli occupation deceived the citizens and forced them into forced displacement, then multiplied its crimes by targeting them this afternoon," the health ministry said.
"The world witnessed that all the victims of this targeting are entire families, including unborn children. Three ambulances were targeted, and 10 of their crews were injured during the evacuation of the wounded."

Last post I saw in here had him at a 2% approval rating after the attacks. It was 27% before the attacks
I think the severely low approval rating came from the SHOCK that Israel was not aware of the impending attack, which should have been seen before all those paragliders and trucks and motorcycles made it to their destinations.

They were apparently carrying out massive preparations and war games a mile away from the Israeli border and no intel figured it out?

The Palestinian United Nations envoy appealed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday to do more to stop a “crime against humanity” by Israel, which has warned nearly half of the population of the Gaza Strip to relocate as it plans an assault, according to a Reuters report.

“He has to do more. Whatever was done is not sufficient. We need all of us to do more to stop this crime against humanity,” Palestinian U.N. envoy Riyad Mansour told reporters before a meeting of Arab Group ambassadors at the United Nations.

Countries urged Israel on Friday to hold off attacking northern Gaza, where more than a million civilians largely defied Israel’s order to evacuate before it goes after Hamas militants who slaughtered Israeli civilians last weekend.

Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan said on Friday that Israel’s warning to residents in northern Gaza was “to temporarily move south ... to mitigate civilian harm.” He was speaking at an event Israel hosted at the UN with families of Israelis kidnapped by Hamas and taken to Gaza in the attack.

Guterres briefed the 15-member UN Security Council behind closed doors on Friday.
“The situation in Gaza has reached a dangerous new low,” he told reporters on his way to the briefing, adding that he was in constant contact with the leaders across the region to try and “prevent further dangerous escalation in the West Bank or elsewhere in the region, especially in southern Lebanon.”

Guterres reminded the parties: “Even wars have rules ... Civilians must be protected and also never used as shields.”

Here is some more detail about the strikes reported earlier. The Israeli military says it intercepted two unidentified targets above the northern city of Haifa.

“Following the initial report, another unidentified UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] crossed into northern Israel. Additionally, an IDF UAV was fired upon. In response, the IDF struck a Hezbollah terrorist target in southern Lebanon,” Israel Defense Forces said on social media.

Smoke rises after Israeli army shelling of Lebanese territory on Friday

The Israeli military says it has struck a "terrorist target" in southern Lebanon belonging to the Hezbollah militant group.

It says it acted after it intercepted two "unidentified targets" above the northern city of Haifa, which is close to the Lebanese border, and after an unidentified UAV (drone) crossed into northern Israel. An Israeli military drone was also fired upon, the Israelis say.

In recent days Israeli forces have exchanged rocket fire with Hezbollah.

Like Hamas, the Lebanese group has been designated a terrorist organisation by the UK, US and other countries.

Backed by Iran, it has a strong military and political presence in Lebanon, and wields considerable power in a country without a functioning government or president. In 2006, it fought a devastating war with Israel in which 1,200 people died.

Read this report on the situation at the Lebanese border by BBC Middle East correspondent Anna Foster.

China’s special envoy, Zhai Jun
, told the meeting that China supports the 22-member strong Arab League in playing an important role on the “Palestinian issue” and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.
