Gazan-Israeli family want territory 'flattened' after brother shot dead by Hamas

Five brothers tell Sky News that Gaza should be razed to the ground - despite the fact they still have family there - after their brother was killed when he went to buy cigarettes.

We had gone to Sderot looking for victims of Hamas. We did not expect what we found.

Sderot is a town two miles from Gaza, regularly rocketed. As we filmed the aftermath of one strike, a man said we should visit his neighbours.

"They lost a brother to Hamas," he said. "But they are Arabs from Gaza."

Israel-Gaza latest: Gazans told 'go south if you want to live'

We knocked on their door. They emerged nervously before ushering us inside.

They are yet another family stricken with grief but this one is different: The Tanaburas may live in Israel but are Gazan Arabs.

On Saturday morning last week, they say their brother, Amir, went out to buy cigarettes.

Younes, 21, said it was the last time they saw him alive.

"Three terrorists chased him, but he was unable to escape. They murdered him like that, for nothing, a good man who saw an injured person and wanted to help," he said.

They only found out what happened from a TikTok video passed on from a friend, showing him lying dead.

Amir was kind and generous, they say, the third-oldest brother.

"He had a heart of gold," said 17-year-old Avraham.

"As they say, 'God takes only the best'. Next month, he should have turned 21."

Amir's body was found with multiple gunshot wounds - yet another innocent victim of the Hamas attacks.

"There was no mercy," Avraham told us. "They could have shot him once but no - they shot him several times, well after he died. He got a bullet, here, here, here."

There are very few Gazans living in Israel; their father moved to Sderot three decades ago because he had worked for the Israelis.

All six brothers were born here. They speak only Hebrew but are also practising Muslims.

They still have family in Gaza but are in no doubt what Israel should do next.

"Hamas are murderers, they are terrorists. We should erase everybody, Gaza should be flattened. I have family in Gaza but I think Gaza should be flattened."

This just shows that things are not black or white. There are many, many shades of gray.

U.S. government working to secure safe exit for U.S. citizens trying to leave Gaza

The U.S. is working to secure a safe border exit for U.S. citizens trying to leave Gaza, a Department of State spokesperson said.

"We have informed U.S. citizens in Gaza with whom we are in contact that if they assess it to be safe, they may wish to move closer to the Rafah border crossing," the spokesperson said, adding that "there may be very little notice if the crossing opens and it may only open for a limited time."

Good.
Netanyahu and Hamas both need to go.
After witnessing the chaos here in the US, I’m not sure if effective leadership exists. I’ve come to admire President Zelinsky for his commitment to Ukraine but keep waiting for the scandal to be discovered that proves me wrong.

Soldiers or civilians are all enemies - ex-Hamas leader

A former Hamas leader has said that what the militants did last Saturday was "an attempt to end the Israeli occupation" and that he is "proud" of them.

Speaking to Turkey's Haberturk TV, Hamas's head of foreign affairs Khalid Meshal added the conflict did not start last week, but in 1948.

"Israel has been saying that their army was the strongest and undefeatable. When we saw that they were defeated in a few hours, we were surprised, too," he said.

When asked about Hamas murdering civilians, children and the elderly, he said: "We kept telling them not to do that. But in war times, these incidents can happen. Isn't it what Israel always says, that they didn't do it [kill civilians] on purpose?"

Asked whether Hamas has done the same as it accuses Israel of doing, Meshal said there was a "big difference":

"We are the owners of this land. When the enemy comes from outside, either soldiers or civilians, they are all enemies. Whoever comes to my land [to occupy] is enemy, and guilty."

Louvre Museum closes doors for security reasons

Home to the Mona Lisa and a world-renowned tourist destination, Paris' Louvre Museum of art remained shuttered today, citing security concerns.

"For security reasons, the Musée du Louvre is closing its doors today, Saturday, October 14. Those who have booked a visit during the day will be reimbursed," the gallery posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The closure comes after Macron called for the mobilization of 7,000 soldiers for increased security patrols after a teacher was fatally stabbed and two more people injured in an Islamist attack on a school in Arras, northern France.

France, which has the largest Muslim and Jewish communities in Europe, banned pro-Palestinian protests earlier this week over concerns that they would generate "disturbances to the public order," according to Reuters.

Congregants at a synagogue in Tel Aviv talk about life on hold

TEL AVIV — About 10 to 12 congregants attended Shabbat morning service at the Beit Daniel Synagogue on Saturday. They sang, chant and read from the Torah.

Rabbi Meir Azari said that he was supposed to be officiating four bar mitzvahs on Saturday, three weddings this week and four next week — but all of them have been canceled given that so many young people have been mobilized to join the war.

"People have had to stop everything in their life," said Azari, who has led the congregation for 33 years. "We saw grief and an anger through the years but this is something very different. That reminded me of my youth as a young teenager, during Yom Kippur War."

Lauren Freedman, 62, has lived in Israel for 31 years and said that both Israeli and Palestinians just want to live normal lives.

"I think about the store where I buy fruits and vegetables — most of the workers there are Palestinians," she said. "So when I went in this week, all of the Palestinians were gone. And it was just the Israeli Jews. And I think about these people who are coming to work every day simply to earn a living. And there's good partnership and cooperation between them and the Israeli employees. And [what's happening] is just so sad."

BBC office doused in red paint in apparent protest at refusal to call Hamas terrorists

The offices of the BBC were doused in red paint in an apparent protest against the broadcaster’s refusal to call Hamas a terror organization.

The broadcaster has come under widespread criticism for not using the word “terrorist” to describe the Hamas assault that killed more than 1,300 people in Israel, most of them civilians.

The BBC claims it avoids the word as part of its efforts at neutrality even though Hamas is a banned terrorist organization in Britain. Its members — or those found guilty of inviting support for it — can be jailed for up to 14 years under UK law.

The BBC offices are also near the starting point of a mass pro-Palestinian protest being held in London.
***************

Just arrived at work. This is the front entrance to BBC this morning

Because a march starts at BBC headquarters - that means the BBC is pro-Hamas? All the other protests which have been held outside the building means that the BBC is behind those protests too?
There's a protest held outside BBC almost every year these days. Last big ones were by anti-vaxxers!

Why do British broadcasters - especially ones with reporters on the ground and worldwide audiences - try to hold that line in a hot war? ( Also, bearing in mind that broadcasters are regulated - Ofcom - unlike other highly polarised broadcasters in other nations and unlike the largely unregulated British press, some of which has a poor reputations internationally) This isn't a rhetorical question.

Live updates: Israel-Hamas war rages as Palestinian death toll in Gaza rises (cnn.com)

Israel's six-hour directive ordering Palestinians to flee Gaza City has ended. Here's what we know

A six-hour window issued by the Israeli military ordering Palestinian civilians to finish evacuating from Gaza City to the southern part of the strip ended at 4 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET) on Saturday.

[...]

What we know: The IDF's Arabic spokesperson, Avishay Adraee, said the military will permit safe movement on specified streets between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. local time (3 - 9 a.m. ET). Residents were advised to use this window to move southward from Beit Hanoun to Khan Yunis. Additionally, residents of the Al-Shate, Al-Rimal and West Al-Zaytoun areas are “permitted to move” along Daldul and Al-Sana streets towards Salah Al-Din and Al-Bahr streets, Adraee said.

Communications blackout: Israel launched a complete blockade on food, fuel and water entering Gaza on Monday. Human Rights Watch (HRW) criticized Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s call for a complete siege on Monday as a form of “collective punishment” and a “war crime.” Thinning electricity supplies have severely damaged communication along the strip. In an interview with CNN, IDF Spokesperson, Maj. (Res.) Doron Spielman said the IDF is dropping leaflets about the new safe passages, given most people in Gaza City don’t have internet access now. However, CNN has talked to a United Nations Relief and Works Agency school official, a paramedic and a journalist on the ground who were all unaware of this latest advisory.

Explosion rock evacuation route: CNN has geolocated and authenticated five videos from the scene of a large explosion along an evacuation route for civilians south of Gaza City. The videos show many dead bodies amid a scene of extensive destruction. Some of those bodies are on a flat-bed trailer that appears to have been used to carry people away from Gaza City. They include at least several children. There are also a number of badly burned and damaged cars. It is unclear what caused the widespread devastation; the explosion occurred on Salah Al-Deen street on Friday afternoon. CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment on any airstrikes in the same location.

Evacuees killed: Hamas media office told CNN Israeli military airstrikes killed 70 and injured 200 evacuees in Gaza. The airstrikes hit evacuees at three locations: Salah Al-Din street, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin street, and near Wadi Gaza, Hamas said. Earlier, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that “large numbers” of dead and injured people, including women and children, arrived at Al-Shifa' Hospital—located in Al-Rimal neighborhood —after they were shelled on their way from northern Gaza to the south.

UN shelters forced to relocate: The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) was forced to move its central operations from Gaza City to a location in southern Gaza following the Israeli evacuation order issued on Friday. The agency warned that water is now "also running out" at its new location, as thousands of displaced civilians from northern Gaza continue to arrive.

'War crime': On Friday, the Norwegian Refugee Council said Israel's order for 1.1 million people living in northern Gaza to evacuate their homes – ahead of a potential ground invasion – would "amount to the war crime of forcible transfer." The relocation order “must be reversed," the Secretary General of the council Jan Egeland added. Egeland called Western and Arab Nations “who have influence over the Israeli political and military leadership” to “demand that the illegal and impossible order to relocate is immediately rescinded.”

Sometimes it’s best not to comment or attempt to make excuses.
Indeed. Israel has the receipts in this case. I've seen them days ao and am quite surprised it's taken MSM ths long to put them out there.

Israeli military examining death of Reuters journalist in Lebanon

The Israeli army said it was aware of the incident in southern Lebanon in which a Reuters journalist was killed and that it was being investigated.

"We are aware of the incident with the Reuters journalist. We are looking into it. We already have visuals. We're doing cross examination. It's a tragic thing," a military spokesperson told reporters.

Reuters video journalist Issam Abdallah was killed and six other journalists injured in southern Lebanon yesterday when missiles fired from the direction of Israel struck them, according to a Reuters videographer who was at the scene.

Israel military says Gaza residents must not 'delay' evacuation

The Israeli military said that Gaza City residents must not delay their departure before a military offensive starts as roads out of the northern part of the territory were again jammed with people leaving.

Military spokesman Richard Hecht said there is a "window" for safe passage to south Gaza between 10am and 4pm.

Without saying how many days the window would remain, Mr Hecht told reporters: "We know this is going to take time but we recommend people not to delay."
