An Israeli airstrike is reported to have hit Aleppo airport in Syria.

Speaking to Agence France-Presse, Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said:

“An Israeli air strike coming from the direction of the sea struck Aleppo airport.”
Agence France-Presse reports that Syrian state media SANA has also confirmed the strike, with state TV reporting “Israeli aggression targeting Aleppo International Airport.”

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Saturday’s strikes hit the airport “hours after it went back into service, knocking it out of service again,” Agence France-Presse reports.

The reported strikes comes just days after Israeli forces launched missiles at the airports in Aleppo and Damascus, damaging their runways.

Reuters reports that sources have said the strikes on the airports are intended to disrupt Iranian supply lines into Syria.

"Critical situation in Gaza.

'Bodies of the dead kept in an ice cream truck'.

Yasser Khatab, a forensic pathologist employed at the Hospital Al-Aqsa Martyrs in the city of Deir al-Balah, in an interview with CNN, admitted that the facility was unable to cope with such a large number of bodies.
Some of them must be kept for several days before being collected by loved ones of the deceased.

He emphasized that the situation in Gaza is dramatic and immediate help is needed.

He pointed to the urgent need for refrigerated morgues, medical equipment, as well as coffins and equipment necessary for the proper treatment of corpses."

This is like Hitler and ISIS combined.

There are soooo many parallels to both.

That video of them in the bomb shelter reminded me of Jews crowded in the gas chambers/ “showers”.

The gunshot executions, slaughtering of women, children, etc. is like Nazi Germany.

The lists goes on.

(Obvious I know, just saying)

Israelis protest asking information about hostages

I’ve been speaking to Yotam Kipnis, whose parents and six other family members are missing after the atrocities at kibbutz Be’eri.

He had just been at a protest outside Israel’s defence ministry in Tel Aviv by families demanding more information about those missing and the hostages held by Hamas.

Kipnis criticised the intelligence failure to detect the attacks. He also believed the area around Gaza was left unprotected because troops had been deployed to the occupied West Bank by the hardline, ultranationalist government led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

“It feels like the government abandoned us not only on this Saturday but before that. Because forces… were sent to the West Bank, forces that would have been vital in defending the [south of Israel], defending the people who live there.

“It’s called the IDF, the Israel Defense Force and that’s supposed to be its goal, to defend us, not to secure some crazy adventure of settlers in the West Bank which only harm the security of Israel and the security of its soldiers who are protecting those settlements.”

Kipnis’ parents Lilach, 60, and Eviatar, 65, have yet to be found. In a desperate phone call early last Saturday his mother told him she was sheltered the room and there were gunshots. That was his last call with her.

Gaza situation is “devastating,” Palestine Red Crescent spokesperson tells CNN

Palestine Red Crescent Society spokesperson Nebal Farsakh spoke about the ongoing conflict in Gaza with CNN’s Becky Anderson Saturday.

“The situation is devastating, it’s horrible,” Farsakh said.
Farsakh said the Red Crescent had been notified by Israel to evacuate Al-Quds hospital in Gaza City but did not have the means to do so.

“We are not willing to evacuate because we do not have the means to evacuate our patients,” Farsakh said, “We have around 300 patients at the hospital. Some of them are in the intensive care unit. We have children in incubators. We can’t evacuate them.”
Farsakh cautioned a ground incursion by Israeli forces could worsen the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

“We call on the international community for immediate action to stop a humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding if Israel is going to implement the ground incursion,” Farsakh said.
Farsakh spoke from Ramallah in the West Bank, where she said confrontations have resulted in injuries and fatalities.

“Since the beginning of the escalation, confrontations have been taking place in different Palestinian cities,” Farsakh said “Whether in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip, the situation is really hard.”

I think there is little progress at the crossing because Egypt doesn't want the influx of people (and perhaps terrorists hidden among them).

jmo
My understanding is that Egypt will allow people with dual passports, or foreign passports, to enter Egypt from Gaza. From there, they can go to their embassy to arrange to leave the country and go home.

I bet my hero whom I got to know and love during Covid, the Irish Dr. Mike Ryan, WHO Director of Emergency Operations, is on the ground @Mo Thuairim & @SouthAussie.

We know he has been on the ground in many a violent, dangerous war situation, wearing a helmet and bullet proof vest in the middle of bombs to deliver humanitarian relief.

If anyone sees anything about Tedros or Mike Ryan on the ground, please tag me, thank you.
I don't know where he is at the moment, Margarita (probably Geneva), but here's a clip of Mike Ryan two years ago talking about WHO's years of work with Israelis and Palestinians and the vital importance of protecting healthcare for civilians during conflict.

The Syrian defence ministry has confirmed Israel’s targeting of its Aleppo airport on Saturday night.

“The Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport, which led to material damage to the airport and it being out of service,” Reuters reports the ministry staying.

That has not yet happened at the Rafah border. The Egyptian Foreign Minister interviewed on CNN said the problem was on the Palestinian side of the border, but as of yet, no one at all has crossed that border and entered Egypt since last Saturday, at the earliest.

Hamas in rare English ‘press conference’ as it tries to counter global condemnation

The terror group claimed its gunmen were ‘keen to avoid harming civilians’ and blamed the Israeli military for the deaths of its citizens

Hamas used a rare pre-recorded English language press conference to claim it had given “clear instructions” to its fighters not to target civilians as it sought to counter waves of international condemnation.

Basim Naim, the terrorist group’s head of international relations, insisted its gunmen were “keen to avoid harming civilians” - in an apparent desperate and easily-disproved attempt at media management.

Speaking into four microphones, Naim said on Thursday night that Hamas terrorists had “targeted only Israeli military bases and compounds that were suffocating the people of Gaza for more than 17 years.”

He was accompanied by spokesman Ghazi Hamad. The pair appeared in front of a green screen, with scenes of urban warfare projected onto the backdrop.

Other Hamas officials have claimed the 260 party-goers massacred at the Supernova festival on Saturday may have been mistaken for “resting” soldiers.

Such blatant lying makes me so furious I have to take a break.

Grateful for strict teachers in my youth who assigned memorization, when memorization was out-of-style.

Man's Inhumanity to Man
Many and sharp the numerous ills
Inwoven with our frame.
More pointed still, we make ourselves
Regret, remorse and shame.
And man, whose heaven-erected face
The smiles of love adorn,
Man's inhumanity to man,
Makes countless thousands mourn.

Technically, the land was given to Israeli ownership if you see the borders drawn in the accord.

Not that it was not the land that Palestinian Arabs, and some Christians had farmed for ages. Israel has been very aggressive in planting communities there, as it is fertile land that has water.

Statement by Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, about the latest in Israel, the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the region

14 Oct 2023

Civilians in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory are suffering from a week of utter anguish and devastation. I fear that the worst is yet to come.

In Israel, families are reeling from the horror of last Saturday’s attack. More than a thousand people have been killed and many more have been injured. Over 100 people are held captive.

In Gaza, families have been bombed while inching their way south along congested, damaged roads, following an evacuation order that left hundreds of thousands of people scrambling for safety but with nowhere to go.

Nearly 2,000 people have been killed and many more have been injured.

There is no power, no water and no fuel. Food supplies are running dangerously low.

Hospitals, overwhelmed with patients, are running out of medicine.

Morgues are overflowing.

Homes, schools, shelters, health centers and places of worship are under intense bombardment.

Entire residential neighbourhoods have been razed to the ground.

Aid workers have been killed.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza, already critical, is fast becoming untenable.

In the West Bank, violence is on the rise, with a surge in civilian deaths and injuries. Families are facing ever greater movement restrictions.

And in Lebanon, the risk of the conflict spilling into the country is a major concern.

The parties’ actions and rhetoric over the past few days are extremely alarming and unacceptable.

Even wars have rules, and these rules must be upheld, at all times, and by all sides.

Civilians and civilian infrastructure, including humanitarian workers and assets, must be protected.

Civilians must be allowed to leave for safer areas. And whether they move or stay, constant care must be taken to spare them.

Essential supplies and services and unimpeded humanitarian access must be allowed.

Anyone held captive must be treated humanely. All hostages must be released.

All countries with influence must exert it to ensure respect for the rules of war and to avoid any further escalation and spillover.

The past week has been a test for humanity, and humanity is failing.

Israel-Hamas war live updates: Gaza hit with more shelling as Israel defends evacuation order (nbcnews.com)

Israeli strikes slowing as Saturday turns to Sunday near Gaza border

SDEROT, Israel — It's just past midnight on the border with Gaza, and the streets remain quiet, save the constant hum of an Israeli drone hovering above.

The tempo of outgoing Israeli strikes has slowed in the last several hours.

In the darkness of night, the skyline of Gaza City is black; only a few lights can be seen flickering in the distance.

Israeli strike hits Aleppo airport - Syrian officials

The Syrian authorities say Aleppo airport has been hit by an Israeli air strike, for the second time in a week.

"The Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport, which led to material damage to the airport and it being out of service," the Syrian defence ministry is quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

The airport had just returned to service after being hit on Thursday, in what Syrian officials say had also been an Israeli strike.

There's been no comment from the Israelis.

On Thursday, Syrian state media said Israeli forces had hit the country's two main international airports in Damascus and Aleppo with missiles, putting them out of action.

The airports not only handle civil aviation but also host military bases, which are reportedly transit points for Iranian arms sent to Hezbollah - a militant group which is powerful in both Syria and Lebanon.

Pentagon orders second carrier strike group as Israel prepares to expand Gaza operations

From CNN’s Oren Liebermann and Natasha Bertrand

The Pentagon has ordered a second carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean Sea, according to two US officials, as Israel prepares to expand its Gaza operations.
The US warships are not intended to join the fighting in Gaza or take part in Israel’s operations, but the presence of two of the Navy’s most powerful ships is designed to send a message of deterrence to Iran and Iranian proxies in the region, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The first carrier strike group, led by the USS Gerald R. Ford, arrived off the coast of Israel earlier this week.

Now the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower strike group, which deployed Friday from Norfolk, Virginia, is headed to the eastern Mediterranean. The aircraft carrier was initially set to move toward the US European Command, but the officials said it will now head for the waters near Israel.

ABC News first reported the carrier strike group’s orders.

In addition, the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, a rapid-reaction force capable of conducting special operations, is making preparations in case it is ordered closer to Israel to bolster the US force posture there, multiple US officials tell CNN.

The unit, which is currently on board the USS Bataan amphibious assault ship, is composed of more than 2,000 Marines and sailors and would be capable of supporting a large-scale evacuation. Among the mission essential tasks for a Marine Expeditionary Unit are evacuation operations and humanitarian assistance.

No such order has been given yet to the unit, the officials said.

Defense officials have said repeatedly in recent days the Pentagon will be able to flow in additional forces and assets to the region quickly as needed, as Israel continues to fight a war against the terrorist group Hamas.
