Do not want to go in circles, so I will just have this one reply to this comment.

I taught English and Journalism for 25 years in NYC.

I know what “new” and “news” mean.

In the younger grades, which I didn’t teach, the subject is called “Current Events.”

The kidnapping of innocent civilians is still CURRENT. It is newsworthy even if further events have transpired in the region.

The Israeli dead are still being identified. Families are still in shock. The fate and location of the hostages remain unknown but to Hamas.

What happened in Israel is ongoing and is by no means old news.

Due attention must be paid, and IMO the massacre in Israel is being subsumed by reports about the perpetrators and not the victims.

JMO
I think at some point the hostages will need their own WS thread so that every detail & update can be uploaded and be kept because it will just get lost among growing threads on this conflict.
It's going to be a long war and we've all seen hostages get forgotten by the media for years

The families will be very active and as others have predicted they will likely be very influential in political events ( already they're making statements almost every day)

IDF chief of staff: "We’ll enter the Gaza Strip"

The Israel Defense Forces chief of staff, Herzi Halevi, told IDF commanders Saturday that the military will initiate an operation to take out Hamas.

“We’ll enter the Gaza Strip. We’ll embark on an operational and professional task to destroy Hamas operatives and infrastructures,” the chief said in comments to the Golani Brigade of the IDF.

Halevi said that when the IDF enters Gaza, they will “keep in mind” the images that occurred on October 7 during a Hamas attack that killed at least 1,400 people in Israel.

He said that Gaza is complicated and crowded but that the IDF is preparing.

"All of the IDF’s capabilities will be with you in that maneuvering. Be brave, with that mindset, be very determined, and give your soldiers confidence,” Halevi said.

In Tel Aviv, sirens interrupt sparks of a return to normal life

Tel Aviv — The streets might be quieter than usual in parts of Tel Aviv, but along the promenade on the Mediterranean seashore, there are bursts of life.

Families swim in the sea, groups of friends play soccer and at least a dozen people, drawn to the beach by strong winds, can be seen kitesurfing as sunset falls over the city.

In Tel Aviv, two people continue kitesurfing shortly after having to run to a shelter after sirens sounded.

It’s a peaceful scene, but just an hour or so before, sirens warning of a potential air attack sounded, sending beachgoers running to the nearest shelter.

One kitesurfer, said she had to quickly bring down her kite and race to the nearest shelter when the sirens sounded. She said it felt strange to return to a semblance of normalcy in the wake of Hamas' Oct. 7 attack, but she said: “It’s been two weeks that I wasn’t doing anything for my soul. You know, you just got to be a bit human.”

Satellite photos show trucks leaving Gaza after dropping off aid, with more lined up at border crossing

Aid trucks queue on the Egypt side of the Rafah border crossing on October 21.

RSBM,

With this footage, I'll not that the water or fuel truck noted as crossing in the previous photograph, actually wasn't crossing. It now seems to me that that particular vehicle was travelling on the perimeter road seen running parallel to the whiteish-coloured wall below the actual crossing itself in the top pic here. That perimeter road would have been the road seen on the left of the earlier photo.

United Nations aid agencies say a first 20-truck convoy of assistance that reached Gaza Saturday is “only a small beginning and far from enough.”

The agencies, including the World Health Organization, the World Food Program and others, say in a joint statement that more than 1.6 million people are in critical need of humanitarian aid.

[...]

The global medical group says hospitals in Gaza are “overwhelmed and lacking resources.”

“We recently made a large donation of medical stock, including medicines, narcotics and medical equipment to Al Shifa hospital, the main surgical facility in the strip,” the group, known by its French acronym MSF, writes on the X platform.

Aid organizations call for unrestricted access to Gaza after convoy of trucks pass through Rafah crossing

[...]

What was in today's supply of aid: The 20 trucks that crossed from Egypt to deliver aid to Gaza on Saturday were carrying food, water and medical supplies, but no fuel.

According to Egyptian authorities at the Rafah crossing, 13 trucks were carrying medicine and medical supplies, five were carrying food and two trucks had water.

UNICEF said it managed to drive enough water supplies for 22,000 people for one day through the crossing.

The crossing is now shut again.

Does anyone here remember the 1985 terrorist events in the Middle East? They held my fellow H.S. classmate, Rob Stethem hostage, along with many others, and brutally beat and killed him aboard a TWA flight in Beirut Lebanon. He was truly a fine and honorable young man in the prime of his life who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country . I remember him well and will never forget him. His family is truly amazing and probably the most patriotic family I’ve ever known. They have kept his name alive all these years and remain active to persevere his legacy.

I pray that every single hostage comes home safely. No one should ever have to endure being held hostage, and the families of those taken suffer beyond imaginable pain. Praying they all come home.

When will more aid arrive in Gaza?

Before the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, hundreds of trucks loaded with humanitarian aid passed regularly into Gaza. So while the 20 truck convoy that entered through Egypt’s Rafah crossing earlier today was greeted with relief, the need remains vast.

UNICEF, which has been designated the “water cluster lead” for the humanitarian supplies, said that it was only able to send a fraction of the water needed into Gaza today. It is unclear when the border will open again.

[...]

UNICEF says it currently has mobile latrines, thermal blankets, medicine and water purification tablets for up to 250,000 people prepositioned at the Rafah crossing that can be brought into Gaza “in a matter of hours.” Humanitarian organizations say still approximately 200 trucks with 3,000 tons of assistance are waiting on the the Egyptian side of the border.

Here is the statement from the international humanitarian organization Care on the entry of aid into Gaza today.

Hiba Tibi, the Care West Bank and Gaza country director, said:

My team and I welcome the news of the arrival of 20 aid trucks as this is the first time in two weeks that any basic supplies have entered the Gaza Strip, where approximately 2.3 million people – half of them children – currently reside in dire conditions …

But much more is required. To give you an idea of the scale, the United Nations speaks of a minimum of 100 trucks needed per day. We need safe access for essential humanitarian aid, including water, food, fuel and medical supplies.

We need the water taps to be turned on again, as thousands of families are now drinking salty and contaminated water and the risk of waterborne diseases is increasing by the hour.

We need the electricity supply to be re-established, to power hospital generators on which the lives of the wounded, of babies in incubators, and of patients on dialysis depend.

With medical care on its knees, the injured and the sick who cannot be treated locally must be allowed to leave safely for hospitals outside the strip.

And finally, there needs to be a sustained halt to the violence. Aid cannot be distributed under the bombs. Time is not a luxury the people of Gaza have.

Wow; that is something in and of itself. They are even exempt from Israel's mandatory military service (conscript) requirements.
IMO, they realize the significance of this war...

First aid trucks entering Gaza not checked for weapons — report

A UN spokesperson says the first 20 trucks of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza were not checked for weapons or other contraband, the New York Times reports.

Instead, the trucks entered via an “expedited process,” in which a manifest of what they contained was submitted to the UN, Egypt and Israel, Stéphane Dujarric says. The aid was given to the Red Cross for distribution.

He says the process will not be used again, and is unsure when more trucks will be allowed to enter.

A top Hezbollah official has vowed that the Iran-backed militant group in Lebanon is already “in the heart of the battle” and vowed that Israel will pay a high price whenever it starts its ground offensive in Gaza.

The comments by Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Sheikh Naim Kassem, came as Israel launched drone strikes in southern Lebanon with Hezbollah firing back at Israel with rockets and missiles.

“Do you believe that if you try to crush the Palestinian resistance, other resistance fighters in the region will not act?” Kassem said in a speech Saturday during the funeral of a Hezbollah fighter, Reuters reports.

“We are in the heart of the battle today. We are making achievements through this battle.”

Israel says it will "increase the attacks from today"

Israel says it plans to intensify its attacks on Gaza starting Saturday night.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday in response to a question about a possible ground invasion into Gaza, Israeli Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said:

“We will deepen our attacks to minimize the dangers to our forces in the next stages of the war. We are going to increase the attacks, from today.”
Reuters reports that Hagari repeated his calls for Gaza residents to evacuate south.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has issued a statement on the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, saying, “Today’s entry…is a welcomed glimpse of hope but this minuscule aid represents a drop in the ocean.”

“We call on the international community to secure the continued flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza including through the Israeli controlled crossings.
Furthermore, without fuel entering the Gaza Strip to support generating electrcity, thousands of Palestinian lives are at risk of death in hospitals. Ambulances will no longer be able to save lives. Bakeries will no longer be able to provide bread. It shall also leave the population without potable water, and risking the outbreak of diseases.”

There is Zero Evidence of this, but I have a feeling if it is at all True it’s because the Conditions given by Hamas for their Release were *advertiser censored*.

Quick question for those members who follow the IDF and government comms closely.

Do you think that Bibi believes that if Hezbollah gets drawn in, that USA and allies are going to be actively involved in conflict too?

I'm not going back to find the reports but there were tweets and video posted this morning about what actually occurred. MOO

Russia plans to hold another UN Security Council meeting regarding the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza, Russia’s deputy UN envoy said on Saturday.

“We will definitely convene a new meeting of the Security Council. As practice has shown, no one but us dares to do so,” Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s UN deputy permanent representative said, Agence France-Presse reports.

Polyansky did not mention when Russia would hold the meeting.

“Regarding a resolution, I don’t know how fast we’ll get to the next state of trying to pass a resolution,” he said.

Earlier this week, Russia’s resolution on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas failed due to opposition from four council members including the US, which criticized the draft for not mentioning Hamas.

I wonder what the number of Palestinians who died from these defective Hamas rockets is?

I'm sure that Israel will be blamed for all of these deaths.
Hamas appears to be, the crowned King of all Gaslighters.

What's worse, if possible, they actually have supporters all over the world, that the supporters themselves would be next in line to be brutally, violently exterminated, if Hamas had the chance to do so.

It's truly mind-boggling to observe.
