IMO it's part of the information war. I think there are other bigger & more realistic risks than attempts to use cyanide dispersal systems remotely on an enemy

But it did take me back to 2002/2003 and the dodgy dossier ( WMD as pretext)

Possibly. But, from the link in my post, particularly the BBM part, I would like to know... How much difference exists between Al-Qaeda beliefs, missions, plans, manuals, etc AND those of Hamas??

The Israeli military found a USB key with instructions for the production of a "cyanide dispersion device" on the body of a Hamas operative who participated in the Oct. 7 terrorist attack, according to two Israeli officials and a copy of a classified Israeli Foreign Ministry cable obtained by Axios.

"Israeli intelligence traced the origin of the document to a 2003 Al-Qaeda manual, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in the cable".

Israel still doesn't know how many hostages Hamas took, because we don't know if the 100-200 missing persons were cremated alive and turned to human ash. Our goal: total victory over the terrorists who perpetrated the October 7 Massacre. Tonight on @cnn

Israeli military warns attacks in northern Gaza will 'intensify'

Israeli forces plan to step up their attacks on Hamas strongholds in northern Gaza, officials said today, as Israel prepares for a ground assault.

"We'll continue attacking targets that can be a threat to our ground forces," Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, an Israel Defense Forces spokesman, said in a statement, adding that the military "will intensify" its campaign against Hamas.

He also called on residents of northern Gaza to continue evacuating to the south, where humanitarian aid began entering today from the border with Egypt.

He said the aid includes food, water and medicine, but not fuel.

when I read any of those kinds of articles I end up wondering what about me?
Maybe if ordinary people ( like me) were more aware of the rest of the world, of foreign policy, read more foreign news, maybe we'd be in a better position in terms of the expectations we have for our own political leaders?

I don't really read much news from around the world. Last time I read anything from ME was probably during withdrawal from Afghanistan.

More than that. Last war on US soil was the Civil war. People in the US always appeared slightly...not naive but "untouched with big disasters", so yes, i think there is some lack of clear perception about the problems that the rest of the world is facing, as well as belief in the legal system, such things. The war correspondents have own agenda, i am not sure we see all that's happening here. I think traveling might help, too. Keep in mind that one person who you meet during your travels might not be the representative of the whole nation, but they can nonetheless tell you an interesting thing, even if it is something negative. It is the perspective that matters.

I hope the R’s weren’t released because Hamas has gone by its handbook” and “killed the difficult ones”…

Maybe kept R’s in good condition, like Mia’s “medical care” video.

I think their release has to do with them being US citizens and a million things relating to this, which is too much to discuss atm (overloaded).

ETS: The fact that the Rs are kept in good condition indicates good planning. Apparently, HAMAS had several scenarios in mind. I wonder who helped them plan. Someone who understands US better than HAMAS does, sorry. Maybe, Iran.

JMO - i see certain lack of professionalism on behalf of the famed Israeli intelligence. I don't suspect inside treachery, but something doesn't fit. Of course, human factor can't be negated, but I wonder how many apps and foreign-made devices one can be using, worldwide. For example, you know these tiniest portable printers you can take everywhere, they use thermal paper. It recently hit me that there might be a reason why Apple doesn't have apps for them. (Google play does, and I think it might be a mistake.)

What I want to say, when we order new devices, we never think where parts might be coming from. Not the whole device, parts and apps.

I don't know the answers to those questions.

But, I do know they haven't let a single foreigner or dual Palestinian-Foreign citizen through it since 7/10 ... even when trucks were not getting through so ...

I'll caveat this post with a perhaps they've let through 2 persons ... those being the recently released hostages as I believe they were released to somewhere in Egypt for onward return to Israel.

IIRC, the two hostages released by Hamas were transferred by the Red Cross from Gaza across the Israel border.

Israeli Arabs arrested over Gaza social media posts

By Sara Monetta
BBC News, Jerusalem

Dozens of Arab citizens of Israel have been arrested in connection with social media posts about the war in Gaza.

Among them is a well-known singer and influencer from Nazareth, Dalal Abu Amneh, who was held in police custody for two days before being released on Wednesday on bail. She's now under house arrest until Monday.

According to her lawyer, Abeer Baker, she was accused of "disruptive behaviour" by police officers, who said her posts could incite violence among her followers.
The post that attracted police attention was an image of the Palestinian flag with the Arabic motto: "There is no victor but God."

Ms Baker says the singer, who is well known across the Arab world for her songs about Palestinian heritage, was expressing a religious sentiment. Israeli authorities interpreted the singer's post as a call to arms for Palestinians.

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, police in Israel have adopted what they call a "zero tolerance policy" towards social media activity deemed to express support for Hamas, an Islamist group which is committed to the destruction of Israel and designated as a terrorist group by Israel, as well as the US, UK, and many other countries.

[…]

Many others have been suspended or sacked from their jobs or face disciplinary action from their universities.

[…]

"Anyone inciting against the State of Israel, its government symbols, elected officials, military personnel and police, should be aware that the Israel Police will respond firmly and without leniency," said Israel's Police Commissioner, Yaakov Shabtai, at a meeting with senior leaders this week.

[…]

Human rights activists worry this spike in detentions is due to the police adopting a wider interpretation of what constitutes incitement to violence.

[…]

BBM. Am I the only one who finds the words from the Israel PC to be a tad too authoritarian from a human rights perspective?

I didn't realize Arab citizens of Israel do not enjoy Freedom of Speech/Expression and are being arrested and detained for it. I think this could pose a problem in terms of how much $$$$ taxpayers in the U.S. are going to be willing to spend on military support for Israel's war that it claims is against Hamas but the words from the PC seem to give police the power to unfairly profile--and detain-- Palestinians.

RE: a cease fire for humanitarian reasons.. HAMAS will not adhere to a ceasefire. It would be foolish to think otherwise. Israel stops for say 12 hours.. then what? HAMAS has time to do more damage inside GAZA and in Israel.

Yes, I don't like it. "Be patriotic or else".

If this is true, then why can't the US citizens that were told to go to the Egypt crossing to leave just be taken out the same way these hostages were? If they are indeed us citizens then let them out into Israel. Maybe it just isn't that simple, but if people can legally leave Israel because they are citizens of another country, then why not bring them through that same crossing and get them out of there?

I don't know what their laws are there.

Canada has "Free Speech" too, but it's caveated. Hate speech (such as holocaust denial) or harassing speech can be charged as in Germany and many places in Europe etc.

I do believe that "Anti-Semetic harassment/speech" is illegal in Israel. I don't consider that to be "patriotic" or else, but rather as "don't be anti-semetic".

I don’t have a link so IMO but I know of a family from Gaza who got out from Ben Gurion in Israel. So….not everything is made public, I suppose.

A Hamas spokesperson said on Saturday that the group had planned to release two more hostages “for humanitarian reasons” but Israel refused, Reuters reports.

Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for the Izz el Deen al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement that it had informed Qatar on Friday of Hamas’s intention to release the two hostages, Reuters adds.

The organizer of Web Summit has announced his resignation following backlash over his online posts in which he criticized Israel’s policies.

On Saturday, Paddy Cosgrave, head of one of the tech industry’s leading events, told Agence France-Presse, “Unfortunately, my personal comments have become a distraction from the event.

“I sincerely apologise again for any hurt I have caused,” added the co-founder of the tech mega gathering created in 2009 in Dublin but held in Lisbon since 2016.

A spokesperson for the organisation said that Web Summit will “appoint a new CEO as soon as possible” and added that the 2023 sumit will continue to proceed in Lisbon as planned.

This year’s summit, which will be held next month, is expected to bring over 70,000 participants. However, several major companies including Google and Meta have announced that they are boycotting the event due to Cosgrave’s remarks.

Cosgrave had tweeted that he was “shocked at the rhetoric and actions of so many western leaders & governments” in support of Israel.

“War crimes are war crimes even when committed by allies, and should be called out for what they are,” he wrote on October 13.

An increasing number of pro-Palestinian voices have been censored in recent weeks with conferences being cancelled and media appearances suppressed.
