They were still in Gaza city a week after evacuation advice was given. They should have gone South of the Gaza River to be clear of the Israeli assault on Hamas terrorists in Northern Gaza - where the hostages are being held. They made a choice, it was a mistake.
I agree fully.

With 20/20 hindsight, they clearly should have evacuated and took the chance that they would still get killed in the evacuation area as some others were. But, 20/20 hind sight is always 'crystal clear'.

I was curious about this.

They may not be in charge of the schools, but they do indeed influence students by writing text books for the educational system and creating courses for them.

Older article, but here’s a link providing some info. It’s an important read.

Thank you! That is what I assumed, that the education curriculum is created and produced by the Hamas government education minister since 2006. Gaza has produced an entire generation of brutal, deranged, mentally twisted baby killers.

Egypt does not want those young men in their country. Every other Arab country said the same thing. They want the people of Gaza to stay where they are. They may not acknowledge to the world that Hamas terrorists, raised in Gaza, committed barbaric acts against civilians, but they do not want those Gaza citizens in their societies.

Yikes!

More war drama...Ugh....
Makes me sick, cuz I was hoping the West Bank would be out of this because I didn't want the war on both fronts. It just complicates things and makes it harder.......More ugh!

There must be a clear reason IDF chose to do this when they did... and it may not "immediately" lead to more critical complications. Maybe?

‘I’m doing all I can’: the young Israeli determined to free his captured girlfriend from Gaza | Israel-Hamas war | The Guardian

1697941154610.png

Two weeks on, Noam Alon still isn’t ready to watch the video that shows his girlfriend, Inbar Haiman, being dragged towards Gaza as a hostage.

“My parents prefer that I don’t see it,” says the 24-year-old art student. ...

[...]

... his girlfriend texted a friend at the festival, telling her to make for the open ground and to avoid the road, where the gunmen who had poured across the border were slaughtering the young festival-goers ...

He and Haiman’s family have pieced together what happened next thanks to the accounts of two young Israelis who were with her as she tried to escape. After hiding under a stage with her friends, Haiman and the pair – who she didn’t know – sprinted off into the bush to hide. It was there that a pair of attackers found her.

“They weren’t Hamas or Islamic Jihad – they were probably just Gaza citizens who got through,” says Alon. “One of them had a knife. They chased after Inbar and the boys, and at some point they managed to catch her. At that moment, another terrorist came riding on a motorbike and they took her. The two other guys escaped but they saw her get kidnapped.”

Alon and Haiman’s family had no news of her until the following day.... People got in touch to say they’d recognised her, and particularly her distinctive leggings, in a video that Hamas had put on Telegram. In it, Haiman, who appears bloody and beaten, is being hauled off by four men. Not long afterwards, the two young Israelis who had been with her as she tried to escape made contact and told them what had happened.

[...]

Alon’s plea is simple. “I want the Israeli government and the UK government – and all the governments in Europe and the US – to do everything they can to make sure that the hostages are returned safe and alive,” he says. “That should be the most important thing for the Israeli army and for the Israeli government – putting the hostages at the top of their priorities. The hostages should come before any military operation; before any ground invasion.”

The elected Hamas government must have been aware of tunnels built under Gaza City, underneath Mosques, next to daycare centres. The government did nothing to stop terrorists from building secret rooms and tunnels throughout their communities during their 17 years in charge (2006-2023).

Hamas is involved in inner city guerrilla warfare by launching missiles from residential neighbourhoods. Those homemade missiles misfire often - landing on their neighbour, and parking lots next to hospitals. Israel advised them to evacuate. Hamas is launching missiles that are falling out of the sky onto civilians. Israel can't fix that problem except by eliminating Hamas.

If they had evacuated, they would have been safe from Israeli assaults and searches for hostages. They are not safe anywhere from Hamas misfires and missiles falling out of the sky.

The Israel Defense Forces has posted apparent images on social media of what it called “a Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist compound” in the Al-Ansar mosque in Jenin on the West Bank.

The IDF has said it killed “terror operatives”, without specifying the number, while Red Crescent in Jenin said one person was killed and three injured.

The IDF posted on X/Twitter:

NYT rehires Hitler-praising Soliman Hijjy to cover Israel-Hamas war

A New York Times reporter who came under fire last year for a praising Adolf Hitler in multiple resurfaced Facebook posts was rehired by the Gray Lady to cover the Israel-Palestine war.

Palestinian filmmaker Soliman Hijjy hailed the Nazi leader as recently as 2018 in a post on Facebook, when he shared a photo of himself captioned that he was “in a state of harmony as Hitler was during the Holocaust,” per a translation from Arabic by pro-Israel media watchdog site HonestReporting.

Iconic NYC Jewish deli vandalized with swastika

The vandalization came shortly after social media accounts for the 2nd Avenue Deli posted pro-Israel content.

The storefront of New York City's iconic 2nd Ave Deli was vandalized with antisemitic content on Wednesday, after the owner showed support for Israel, according to local sources.

The shop was covered in swastikas and hate speech, leaving owner Jeremy Lebewohl to scrub graffiti off of the Upper East Side institution shortly after learning about the destruction of his property.

Older article, but here’s a link providing some info. It’s an important read.

It's behind a pay wall that I can't access. But I seriously doubt the UNRWA has allowed Hamas to provide textbooks to the Palestinian refugee children they are there trying to protect in the Gaza schools.

I believe Hamas actually controlled everything (whether obvious or not). Also, I doubt anyone was permitted to say a questionable (let alone a negative) word about Hamas without some type of retribution.

US to boost military equipment in Middle East, Pentagon says

The United States will send a terminal high altitude area defence (Thaad) system and additional Patriot air defence missile system battalions to the Middle East, the Pentagon has said, in response to recent attacks on US troops in the region.

Reuters quoted defence secretary Lloyd Austin as saying in a statement on Saturday:

Following detailed discussions with President [Joe] Biden on recent escalations by Iran and its proxy forces across the Middle East region, today I directed a series of additional steps to further strengthen the Department of Defence posture in the region.

Austin also said he was placing additional troops on prepare-to-deploy orders, while not saying how many.

I viewed it on Chrome and don’t have a subscription, and was able to view the article.

The article is long and detailed, but basically Hamas has taken over the curriculum by rewriting history through text books that promote violence against Israel through books, courses and military/battle training.

Who is the government in Gaza since 2006? Is it the UN or Hamas?

I am confused. Since when does the UN have the right to enter countries to review education curriculum?

Has the UN reviewed the Gaza curriculum between 2006 and 2023?

US sends additional missile defenses to Middle East and orders more troops to prepare to deploy

The US military is sending more missile defense systems to the Middle East and placing additional US troops on prepare-to-deploy orders in response to escalations throughout the region in recent days.

The Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said Saturday he had “activated the deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery as well as additional Patriot battalions to locations throughout the region to increase force protection for US forces."

The order for troops to prepare for deployment is meant “to increase their readiness and ability to quickly respond as required,” he said.

Both the THAAD and Patriots systems are air defense systems designed to shoot down short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles.

“Following detailed discussions with President Biden on recent escalations by Iran and its proxy forces across the Middle East Region, today I directed a series of additional steps to further strengthen the Department of Defense posture in the region," Austin said in a statement.

"These steps will bolster regional deterrence efforts, increase force protection for US forces in the region, and assist in the defense of Israel,” he added.
