Good post. Neither side in this war has spotless hands--and nothing happens in a vacuum.

We're seeing the very human failing of "justifying" the unjustifiable. Slaughtering innocents is unjustifiable, no matter who does it.

What Hamas did earlier this month shocked and disgusted the world, and Israel is lashing out in grief, anger, and fear of it happening again. According to the rules of war, Israel is justified in trying to eradicate Hamas. I get that. Hamas is pretty nasty.

The deeper question, however, is how Hamas got a foothold in the first place and whether another group will rise even if Israel is successful in eradicating all of them.

For 3/4 of a century now, that region has been in near-constant conflict. Israel sits in a sea of unfriendly Arab countries, and Gazans are little more than caged animals--and Israel holds the key to the cage. It's an untenable situation.

Each time there's a conflict or an intifada, people worldwide take sides as if #1--it's their business, and #2--they are somehow on moral high ground.

This latest war will very likely play out as so many other skirmishes have in the past--Israel will exact a high price in return for the atrocities committed by Hamas, and in doing so, they will create more of the same atmosphere and hatred that allowed Hamas to rise.

If something fundamental doesn't change--either the Gazans or the Israelis being relocated to another part of the world--we'll continue to see this story be replayed. Over and over.

Thank you! I agree with your entire post, and just wish I could write half as eloquently as you do.

I'm quite perturbed by the obvious bias displayed throughout these threads. Are we just pretending that Israeli forces haven't committed atrocities against the people of Palestine? Are we so enraptured by religious fervor that we ignore statistics like "5,600 Palestinians died up to 2020 while 115,000 were injured. 250 Israelis died during the same period while 5,600 were injured."

I simultaneously don't understand the hard support for Israel's genocide, while also being fully aware of the selective morality of it. But come on people, examine the facts.

If there is ever a chance for peace in this region, it is by eliminating HAMAS. I am not against Palestinians, I am against terrorism and what it breeds. HAMAS is killing Palestinians. They are not looking out for or defending Palestinians so they can have a better life. They are using them, taking their supplies, their fuel, and they are building their own shelters under the places Palestinians should be safest. They have told them to not flea and to stay in their homes. HAMAS's own rockets have failed and hit Palestinians. HAMAS is the one that has taken American citizens hostages, they killed Americans, not in a rocket attack, but by breeching the border wall and going house to house shooting children, beheading them, tying people up and burning the house down, raping women, and taking over 200 people back to GAZA to use as bargaining tools to get things like fuel for their rockets. If Israel could eliminate HAMAS without harming a single innocent civilian, I believe that is what they'd do. But, HAMAS is hiding and using Palestinians as "shield". I believe Israel could have already finished this if they weren't concerned for innocent civilians. When they send a missal. HAMAS knows what the targets are... they could get the innocent civilians out of the way if they wanted to, but they don't want that.. they want THIS, they thieve on destruction, chaos, and hate.

I understand the relationship with Gaza and Israel is long and not without problems on both sides. I don't think we can look at THIS situation though and say what HAMAS did on Oct 7th is justified because of anything that Israel did or didn't do prior to that. HAMAS's goal is eradiate Jews.. what then? Palestinians?

I feel for the Palestinian people. I wish they could "get out", but when other countries are saying no I have to wonder why is that? I do hope the US brings in a hospital ship, I hope when this is done that all countries will help GAZA be rebuilt for the Palestinian people. Nobody is against Palestinians, we are against HAMAS and other terrorist groups that only seek to destroy.

''Overnight into Saturday, warplanes struck 150 tunnels and underground bunkers in northern Gaza, the military said. Hamas's extensive underground installations, many of them located under Gaza City in the north of the territory, are seen as key targets of the offensive.''

''As part of the stepped-up bombardment, Israel also knocked out communications and created a near-blackout of information, largely cutting off the 2.3 million people in besieged Gaza from contact with the outside world.

Already plunged into darkness after most electricity was cut off weeks ago, Palestinians were thrown into isolation, huddling in homes and shelters with food and water supplies running out. Attempts to reach Gaza residents by phone were largely unsuccessful early Saturday.

With no electricity, no communications and no water, many of those trapped in Gaza had little choice but to wait in their homes or seek the relative safety of schools and hospitals even as Israel expanded its bombing early Saturday. ''

''The Palestinian telecom provider, Paltel, said the bombardment caused "complete disruption" of internet, cellular and landline services. Relatives outside Gaza panicked after their messaging chats with families inside suddenly went dead and calls stopped going through.''

I don't feel like everything Israel does is good. I question their bold decisions to build all the new settlements which seem to go against previous agreements not to do so. I am uncomfortable hearing about the hundreds of 'missing' workers from Gaza who had permits to be in Israel. I do not always side with Israel.

But in this specific case, of October 7th, I am outraged, appalled and very angry with Hamas leaders. I am not going to accept those excuses about Israel being controlling in Gaza or Gaza needing more aid, etc as a justification for that brutal violence, that outright massacre by Hamas.

What would the US do if Mexico sent in 1000 invaders by air, land and sea and brutally killed families in San Diego and Nogales and El Paso? If they set fire to our homes and killed those who climbed out the windows? If they killed babies in their cribs and toddlers and their mothers were stabbed to death in front of kidnapped siblings?

What if they surrounded our young people at a peaceful music festival , shooting hundreds of them as if they were hunting wild animals?

What if they dragged hundreds of the American families, including women, children and grandparents, back across the border and hid them in underground Mexican tunnels?

What would the US response be? What would your response be? Would you be most concerned about injuring any foreign civilians when trying to save the hostages and in trying to capture the terrorists?
I have said several times here there is no win-win and that is hard for those of us that can see right and wrong. We want to punish HAMAS and not harm anyone else in the process. Everyone understands HAMAS did this not Palestinians. We understood Al Qaeda and Bin Laden planned 9/11, but terrorists don't play by any rules. They seek to harm the very people they are claiming to be protecting if it means they further their terror agenda.

I admit I can't wrap my head around the evil that HAMAS is. I try to imagine the US using innocent civilians as shields, building tunnels under hospitals, telling civilians to stay in their homes and not flea a place they are warned about being bombed, stealing fuel to use instead of allowing hospitals to stay open. I am thankful I live in a place where I can't even imagine that possibility because the US wouldn't do that to it's innocent civilians. Then I think of what kind of animal does do that?

I hope when HAMAS is eradicated, that something good can come for the Palestinians because they don't deserve to be ruled by a group of terrorists and basically held hostage in GAZA.

Finally a post I can agree with 100%.
The entire disaster is an untenable situation.
The fundamental change seems utterly impossible since neither side will never, ever give an inch.
Their respective religions and idealogies forbid them both from ever doing that.

I hate what Hamas has done and continues to do.
I equally hate that Israel's (completely justified) retaliation is killing innocent civilians.
The "collateral damage" is horribly unavoidable in war.

It's just a nightmare and my heart hurts for the innocent victims that have no part in this, except the misfortune of being born where they were born.

Proportionality has nothing to do with casualty numbers.

If Israel wanted to commit genocide, they'd have carpet bombed the Gaza strip on the evening of 7th October 2023 and be done with it.

Guess what else happened on 7 October? A group who has quite literally called for the genocide of Jews and their erasure from the river to the sea, brutally raped, tortured, murdered over 1400 innocent babies, children, women and men.

That group is being targetted by Israel as well it should be.

Perhaps a "committing genocide" post would be more apt posted someplace where the terrorists can read it asking them why they are using innocent Palestinians as human shields (a war crime BTW) along with the other myriad of war crimes they are comitting.

But Israel, but Israel. Just deflection from the terrorists that caused this.

So, we just pretending things like this didn't happen?

"3,000 children in Gaza killed by Israel since Oct 7: Palestine's UN envoy"

"Mansour said 7,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza, saying that fully 70% of all those killed are women and children."

"Israeli airstrikes pounded locations across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, including parts of the south that Israel had declared as safe zones"

That aside, this conflict didn't just begin on Oct. 7.

My point is, there is no favorable nor innocent party in this conflict. Both have committed genocide in the name of their supernatural beliefs. Supporting the side that suits one's own scripture/narrative in the name of righteousness is myopic, bad-faithed bias, as far as I'm concerned.

VIDEO at link.

'Elderly women and babies have been raped' Volunteer at identification unit for female victims of Hamas massacre describes horrors witnessed'

''A volunteer with the unit responsible for identifying female victims of the Hamas massacre has described the shocking scenes she has witnessed.

Filmed outside Shura Base, the identification unit for the murder victims of the Hamas attack in Israel, the volunteer told reporter Christine Kensche what she had seen was "just abject cruelty".

Describing some victims, she said: "They were shot in the head. They were burnt alive. They were mutilated.

"We saw genitals cut off heads cut off, baby's hands for no reason... we saw people shot in the head so many times, long after they were dead. We even saw them shot in the head after there was no more blood, there was no reason.''

''The atrocities depicted suggest that jihadism has evolved in chilling and perverse new ways.
Hamas appears to have combined the tactics of Hezbollah, the Islamic State, and the Taliban by mounting a large-scale attack that included an estimated 2,000 fighters, rocket salvos, mass hostage-taking, rape, beheadings and livestreaming.

Hezbollah has amassed a vast arsenal of rockets that it has used against Israeli forces. The Taliban carried out offensives involving thousands of fighters, particularly in the year before regaining power. And ISIS engaged in mass rape, hostage-taking, and posted gruesome videos online.''

I appreciate your reply and agree with some of your points. I still don’t believe that carpet bombing innocent civilians is the answer.

Current death tolls:
“1,400
Number of Israelis killed

7,326
Number of Palestinians killed

5,431
Number of Israeli’s injured

18,967
Number of Palestinians injured

250,000
Number of Israelis displaced

1.4 million
Number of Palestinians displaced in Gaza”

The difference in the numbers ... Israel used funds to protect the citizens.
Hamas steals from it's citizens, hides behind women and children and uses funds to built tunnels to protect themselves.

The UN has provided all essentials for life, schools, medical care and housing for almost 75 years. These folks aren't ever going to have a better life and become self supporting.

Statehood they say, while the world supports them.

All my opinion

''Hamas’ assault on the Jewish people and the State of Israel began when thousands of rockets rained down on Israel. Then, more than 1,500 members of Hamas’ death squads purged Israeli villages – killing over 1,400 people, injuring thousands of others, taking at least 200 hostages, and leaving behind a trail of unspeakable horror.

But we must speak of it – these atrocities cannot be justified, ignored, or denied. Hamas’ acts of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes included:
  • Murdering civilians in their cars, including women, children, and entire families;
  • Assaulting kibbutzim, killing residents and burning homes;
  • Holding captive and massacring families in their homes;
  • Executing civilians forced from shelter by fire, grenades, or otherwise;
  • Forcing hostages to lure other civilians out of their homes;
  • Executing babies and children, including in their beds and carseats;
  • Murdering the elderly, and posting the evidence on the social media of those killed;
  • Slaughtering more than 250 civilians attending a music festival, at point-blank range, and as they tried to escape;
  • Capturing, holding hostage, and raping women;
  • Kidnapping children;
  • Parading and spitting on deceased victims in the streets;
  • Mutilating bodies of civilians and soldiers;
  • Burning men, women, and children alive;
  • Stripping hostages and holding them at gunpoint;
  • And numerous other atrocities.
Following the horrific assault, Hamas – leadership and rank-and-file alike – celebrated. Moreover, much of the evidence of these atrocities was filmed by Hamas.''

Israel: Hamas terror group’s main operations base is under Shifa Hospital in Gaza City

In a briefing for reporters of international media outlets, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says the Hamas terror group’s main base of operations is under Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Hagari says that Hamas has several underground complexes under Shifa — the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip — which are used by the terror group’s leaders to direct attacks against Israel.

He says Israel has intelligence that there are several tunnels leading to the underground base from outside the hospital, so that Hamas officials do not need to enter the hospital to reach it. But Hagari adds that there is also an entrance to the underground complex from within one of the wards.

Additionally, according to the IDF, Hamas’s internal security has a command center inside Shifa Hospital, from which it directs rocket fire on Israel and stores weapons.

He says that the hospital’s energy infrastructure is also used by Hamas’s underground base.

Hagari accuses Hamas of using the hospital — with 1,500 beds and some 4,000 staff — as human shields.

He says the information on Hamas’s use of the hospital is based on a wide range of intelligence sources collected by the Military Intelligence Directorate and Shin Bet security agency. He says the intel has already been provided to allies.
Very clever. And no one should be surprised. All those claims of low fuel making sense now?

Israel is not "carpet bombing"

We are imposing sanctions on eight individuals with ties to Hamas, including those who have played key roles in facilitating sanctions evasion by Hamas-affiliated companies, as well as sanctioning four entities for their ties to Hamas & other designated terrorist organizations.
I'm not opposed to sanctions, but in this situation, will they really make a difference? Hamas has "brothers" who have tremendous backing, imo.

Hamas can end this by releasing the hostages.

Hamas CAN protect women and children by sheltering them in the tunnels, allowing them move to the southern area and releasing non citizens. A person can travel from one end of Gaza to the other in less than 2 hrs by vehicle, on a good day (google).

Nope, they need the women and children to hide behind. Cowards all of them in my book.

''The woman, who moved from New Jersey to Israel 20 years ago, said what Hamas did to Israeli civilians is “beyond words.”

“There is evidence of mass rape so brutal that they broke their victims’ pelvis — women, grandmothers, children,” Shari said, adding that it's difficult to break someone's pelvis.

Shari said she saw “people whose heads have been cut off,” and women in their night dresses “woken up and shot.” She also witnessed “faces blasted off … heads smashed and their brains spilling out.”

She also described a baby “cut out of a pregnant woman and beheaded and then the mother was beheaded.”

“Women and children burned to charcoal. Bodies murdered with their hands tied behind their backs.”

The Daily Wire said reports also suggest that many of the Hamas terrorists were under the influence of Captagon, a drug linked to heightened aggression and commonly referred to as the “ISIS drug.”

Hamas fighters were reportedly high on drugs during the militant group’s mega assault on Israel that killed more than 1400 people. According to the Jerusalem Post, captagon pills were found from the pockets of several Hamas militants who were neutralised by Israeli forces. The captagon reportedly turned the Hamas fighters into a killing machine as they ran rampage in multiple Israeli towns, murdering civilians including women and children.

How are they meant to see this when the communications are down? It's also in English. This is not done for the Palestinian people.
....
In addition to Arabic, which is the official language of the Palestinian National Authority, English and Hebrew are also widely spoken. Palestinian Arabic dialects are similar to those spoken in other Arab countries, but there are also some differences. For example, urban dialects tend to be more influenced by Modern Standard Arabic than rural dialects.

'Total chaos' in Gaza after night of bombing, says BBC journalist

A journalist working for the BBC in Gaza described “total chaos” during the night of strikes and in its aftermath.

“There was a huge bombardment in the north of Gaza Strip on a scale we’ve never seen before,” wrote Rushdi Abualouf.

“At the hospital here, ambulance drivers told me they couldn’t communicate with anyone, so they were just driving in the direction of the explosions.

“There’s been panic everywhere, even here in Khan Younis, where the bombing was less, as people try to reach family members in other areas to check they are safe, but the phones have been cut off.”

(...)

The World Health Organization (WHO) is out of touch with its staff and health facilities in Gaza, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The blackout is also making it impossible for ambulances to reach the injured,” Tedros said.

“The evacuation of patients is not possible under such circumstances, nor to find safe shelter,” he said.

(...)

In a live satellite TV broadcast from Gaza on Saturday morning, an Al Jazeera correspondent described the cut in internet and phone communications as “catastrophic” for rescue efforts following a night of heavy Israeli bombardment.

Unable to reach ambulance services, Palestinians were transporting the dead and injured to hospital in their cars, Reuters quoted the correspondent as saying.

“Gaza is currently blacked out,” said Paltel, the largest telecommunications provider in Gaza.

(...)

In case you missed this earlier, a fifth of bakeries supported by the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees in Gaza have been bombed so far, as warnings have been issued of “catastrophic” food shortages due to a lack of fuel.

The UN Relief and Works Agency said 10 of the 50 bakeries it supplied with flour – helping to lower the soaring cost of bread – had been hit in airstrikes and fuel was running out for vehicles to transport flour to those that remained.

Bread has been desperately sought after, with long queues at bakeries, and has become the main food for many people in the shelters, which now house more than 600,000 people – triple their intended capacity.

The World Food Programme (WFP) said only two bakeries it had contracted had enough fuel to keep their ovens going and those that were operating were producing six times their capacity. The WFP had been supplying an average of 200,000 people a day with bread but that dropped to 150,000 on Wednesday, a spokesperson said.

(...)

From Sderot on the northern Gaza border: a thick fog has covered Gaza and the southern Israeli coast.

Some artillery or tank fire could be heard at about 6.30am but since then it has been relatively quiet, with just an occasional detonation audible.

The big self-propelled guns dug into the farmland are silent for now.

“You sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind.”
Hosea 8:7

You come into Israel, you treat young people at a festival as targets to hunt down. You violate people’s homes, you rape children and old women, you massacre families but first make them watch each other die, you throw grenades into safe rooms, you set people on fire, you mutilate people while they are alive, you snatch away the disabled, the infirm, the elderly. You rape young women to satiate yourselves but mainly to humiliate them. You commit necrophilia on corpses that were sleeping in their beds until you broke in and slaughtered them.You spirit away toddlers and babies to where they cannot be located. You abscond with elderly people who have already suffered through the Holocaust and survived to make a life in Israel. You behead civilians to satiate your bloodlust. You destroy homes and property and loot what is appealing to you or will get you some money. You know that the country that you have invaded as though you are feral hogs will have no other option but to eliminate you.

You do this prepared to die but nonchalant about how in war, your countrymen will die, too.

You sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind.

Imo and the Bible.
