Live updates: Israel admits airstrike on ambulance in Gaza (cnn.com)

Israel has claimed responsibility for an airstrike near Gaza's largest hospital. Here's what else you should know

[...]

In a statement, Israel said it targeted the ambulance because it was being used by Hamas. A spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said Friday that the ambulance was in a medical convoy from the hospital, traveling to the Rafah border crossing, and had informed the International Committee of the Red Cross about the move.

The ICRC, in a statement, confirmed it was aware of the scheduled movement of a convoy of vehicles carrying wounded patients from northern Gaza to the south, but it was not part of it. The Palestine Red Crescent Society said one of its ambulances was in the convoy and was damaged by shelling, but none of its members were harmed.

No Irish citizens have been included in the list of foreign and dual nationals who were given permission on Friday to leave Gaza and enter Egypt on Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed.

Nearly 100 British citizens have reportedly been listed to leave Gaza today, two days after a number of foreign nationals and injured Palestinian people were given permission to cross the border into Egypt on Wednesday.

An estimated 8,000 foreign and dual nationals, and their immediate dependents, are trying to leave Gaza, a DFA spokeswoman said.

“The evacuations are being managed country by country on a phased basis, it will take some time for this process to be completed,” she said. “Irish citizens are not included in today’s list, but we continue to urgently seek to have Irish citizens included on the list in the coming days.

Blinken and other U.S. officials have echoed Biden's call Wednesday for a “pause” in the fighting to allow for the release of hostages, underscoring the increasingly divergent views between the allies. A senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter, said Friday that the U.S. believes that a “fairly significant pause" will need to be put in place to allow for the release of the more than 200 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Israel has insisted that the hostage release must precede any pause.

In my opinion a significant pause in Israel's defense against Hamas's terrorist's will allow them to move hostages, armaments, and fighters positions to counter the IDF.

The US call for a pause/ceasefire is wrong. It supports Hamas's long term goals while opposing Israel's right to defend itself.

It looks like bombing may have gone down last night. Took me forever to find the Central Gaza City Webcam. It's on Al Jazeera Arabic. (How low can I go??) it wasn't on the AJ English Channel. So, that might mean something good.

There is a fire. Some fishing boats are also charred, but who knows? The boats don't look like bomb damage. The fire is hard to tell. Central Gaza looks good. Hardly any smoke. Best I've seen since I started watching Gaza City webcams.

The report said that almost all the solar panels were bombed last night.

In the Arabic Channel, they lay all their dead in front on the hospital. They are wrapped in shrouds. Will be delivered to cemetery later.

The Sdrot(IL) webame shows more activity. It shows east gaza. Israel has been conducting their tank activities in the area. I did not see any flares last night, but heard fire power. That camera is far from the action and is often grany.

Blinken said the current situation would drive Palestinians toward further radicalism and effectively end prospects for any eventual resumption of peace talks to end the conflict.

“There will be no partners for peace if they’re consumed by humanitarian catastrophe and alienated by any perceived indifference to their plight,"

A senior member of the Biden administration: "You can't talk about a ceasefire when a terrorist organization kills 1,400 people and kidnaps civilians." In addition, he confirmed that Hamas tried to smuggle out its people as part of the wounded being evacuated to Egypt and that the US prevented it. The IDF: The ground activity of the forces in the Gaza Strip continues - and many terrorists have been eliminated. Can the UN just make up it's mind already?? This is beyond ridiculous. They've been complaining for weeks that the Palestinian workers who were in Israel during the 7 October massacres were not allowed to return.

Now they're complaining because they were returned. Israel: Damned if they do/damned if they don't yet again.

My opinion is it’s hot air, I think the US is taking heat from its own and asking Israel to cease fire is to placate, knowing Israel won’t.
I don’t blame Israel, forge ahead.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but someone has marked all (?) the bomb shelters in Israel on Google maps. I'm pretty sure they weren't there before when I was studying biblical archaeology and I used to spend a lot of time "walking around" on there.
Seems a bit sinister to me after what happened and knowing they are mainly to protect people from attacks from above (or so I read), but I may be over-thinking.

Wonder if there's a way to see when they were added and by who?
Why would Israel add them when most people who live in the areas would know where the nearest bomb shelter is?

eta: example. Some shelters are written in Hebrew but seems unnecessary and also highly unsafe to mark them on a map for everyone to see no? jmo.

Again, like I said early on, get ready for MAJOR CYBER WAR, the likes of which we have not seen. JMO. And like I said, I think THIS is part of what Iran is going to do as far as its threats. This has been escalating for a while and they are good at what they do and have Russian backing.

Iran, Russia, and NK…US is now Middle East Public Enemy Number 1 for strongly supporting Israel.

This is just the beginning of widespread
cybersecurity hell, JMO. Get ready for actions by many groups <names removed for certain reasons>.

Hamas Supporters staged a Protest and/or Riot today at the Port of Oakland in California preventing the MV Cape Orlando a Roll-On/Roll-Off Ship with the U.S. National Defense Reserve Fleet from Departing, by Breaching the Gates of the Port and attempting to Climb the Ladder onto the Ship while also Blocking the Entrance to Berth 20 where the Ship was Moored; the Individuals stated they had learned from “Workers” that the Ship was heading to Tacoma, Washington to pick-up Military Aid for Israel and that they were going to prevent that. But finally after nearly 6 Hours of Delays the NV Cape Orlando has Departed from the Port of Oakland, after the Individuals were Removed from the Ship and Arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard and other Federal Agencies.

Edited by me... I'll leave my opinion out of this (for now)

Oh how I wish we could send these hamas supporters to Gaza. Let them hang out with those they support. See how long that support lasts.
We don’t need those supporting terrorists in our country!

"I know you blame the Israelis, but this time someone from your side started it," said Rebelo de Sousa. "The Palestinian side started it. You can't blame Israel, you shouldn't have started it.

The US isn't asking for a ceasefire.
They are trying to get a brief pause for humanitarian assistance and hostages, but that is subject to negotiations.

I am glad that Israel is going to focus on the tunnels. I'll be glad when that part starts. That's where the action is.

Meanwhile, the IDF said it would allow Palestinians to travel on a main Gaza Strip highway for three hours on Saturday to allow civilians to evacuate southward.

“If you care about yourself and your loved ones, heed our instruction to head south,” the military said in a social media posted in Arabic.

Israel announces 3-hour highway clearance in Gaza for evacuees

The Israeli military has announced that it will allow passage along the Salah al-Din Road, Gaza's main highway, that spans from north to south, between 1 p.m. (7 a.m. ET) and 4 p.m. (11 a.m. ET) today for civilians to move to the south of the strip.

"For your safety, make use of the upcoming time to move to the south beyond Wadi Gaza," said Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Forces spokesperson for the Arab media, referring to the river that cuts across the strip, dividing north from south.

The IDF has repeatedly told Gazan residents to move to the southern parts of the strip, claiming to focus efforts to combat Hamas in the northern part of the coastal enclave. Both the north and south of Gaza have faced heavy shelling by the Israeli military since Hamas' attacks on Israel on October 7.

Israelis are allowing passage on Salah al-Deen rd for several hours today from North to South Gaza. There were checkpoints to assure Hamas was not passing south.

This is a clip from the Nova Festival on October 7: A festival of joy, a festival of peace, a #festival of love...and a festival where #Hamas ruthlessly massacred over 260 innocent civilians and kidnapped countless more. There are no words to describe this incomprehensible tragedy.May the memories of the victims forever be a blessing, and may those who have been kidnapped return home safely soon.

The war in Gaza is intensifying today, as Israeli troops announced they had surrounded Gaza City as part of a ground offensive in the territory. Mr. Blinken visited Israel on Friday and appealed for “humanitarian pauses” in the fighting to allow more aid into the territory. But soon after meeting with Mr. Blinken, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel appeared to rebuff the American request, saying that any cease-fire would be contingent on the release of more than 200 hostages abducted in the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attacks that killed at least 1,400 civilians and soldiers.

Blinken - humanitarian pause

Netanyahu - cease fire
