Official vows Israelis will return to evacuated northern towns after war against Hamas

[...]

“The IDF will deploy against a [massive] breach of the border, and not just a penetration of a few terrorist cells into communities,” says the official.

“The IDF will be bigger,” continues the official. “We will invest in the army.”

The official adds that Hezbollah “cannot breach the border because of our deployment and the readiness of our forces. The issue of ‘capturing the north’ is no longer relevant.”

[...]

The official also stresses that efforts are underway to make sure a massive terror attack, similar to that Hamas carried out on October 7, cannot happen in the West Bank. “The possibility of a major change [in IDF operations] in the West Bank remains a realistic one.”

But is there any other solution?
To have Peace at last.

After this war, nothing will stay as before it IMO.

I don't think Israel will ever give up Jerusalem, I think it is non-negotiable and will remain the undivided capital of Israel.

Halevi says IDF ‘ready at any moment to go on offense in the north’

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi says the military is “ready at any moment to go on the offense in the north,” as in recent weeks it has been defending against daily Hezbollah missile and rocket attacks.

“We set a goal of restoring a significantly better security situation on the borders, not only in the Gaza Strip,” says Halevi during an assessment at the 210th Division in northern Israel today.

“We are ready at any moment to go on the offense in the north. We understand that it can happen, and we trust you that the defense here is strong,” he adds.

Syrian Media is now reporting that the Explosions heard earlier at Aleppo International Airport were not caused by Israeli Airstrikes but instead by a Drone Attack from Rebel Forces in the Region.

U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken has already Departed from Baghdad, Iraq following a Very Quick Meeting with Iraqi Officials regarding the ongoing Situation in the Region; he was only on the Ground in Iraq for maybe 2-3 Hours.

Gaza City is still being Heavily Struck with Airstrikes tonight by the Israeli Air Force.

Smart move, cutting off communications, then attacking. Notice it states "intense bombings  around hospitals (emphasis mine), not direct hits. js

Netanyahu’s office says ex-Mossad chief ‘initiated meeting with an Arab leader,’ had PM’s approval

After the Mossad and an Israeli official expressed criticism earlier in the day of Yossi Cohen’s activities around the release of hostages, the Prime Minister’s Office says the former Mossad chief “initiated a meeting with an Arab leader with the prime minister’s approval.”

“He also held a number of meetings on a diplomatic issue and remained in touch with the national security adviser,” the statement continues.

The statement seems to addressing earlier insinuations that Cohen was acting outside the proper channels.

‘Ashamed’ officers said to tell residents of south: We hope to die on Gaza battlefield

Senior IDF officials, in conversations in recent days with residents of the south regarding the Hamas slaughter on October 7, have highlighted their sense of “shame” for having failed to protect the citizens, Channel 12 reports.

“We hope to die on the battlefield, in Gaza,” it quotes unnamed senior officers saying, “because we are ashamed that we abandoned you. We are dying of shame as it is, so at least we’ll die in an effort to protect you as needed and to restore your sense of security. We promise you that we will win this war.”

Less bleakly, the IDF releases a recording of Israel’s ground forces chief, Maj.-Gen. Tamir Yadai, and Air Force Commander Tomer Bar, both flying over Gaza, speaking with an unnamed officer on the ground below.

Bar asks the officer on the ground, “Do you need any assistance? We are above you.”

The unnamed officer responds: “I’ve been getting everything I need for the past week… I know that you’re with us, together with our fighters and all of Israel.”

Yadai in turn praises all of the IDF reservists who have left home to fight. “We’re very proud of them, and we’ll do whatever is needed so that they can carry out their mission.”

30 days into the war, Hamas is still firing on central Israel.

I don’t care what you think about Secretary Blinken or this Administration, he has some Serious Balls for still going to Iraq wearing a Flak-Jacket and Kevlar Helmet despite the Threats made against him just 24 Hours ago, when he could have easily just Cancelled the Visit and said what he needed to say over a Phone or Video Call.

Iraqi Security Forces are Mobilizing tonight in Baghdad in anticipation for possible Civil Unrest and Attacks on the “Green Zone,” as Members of the Sadrist Movement and Iranian-Backed Groups have called for Protests across the City in Response to U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken’s Visit to Iraq.

Ugh: up to a year of this.....
When they say they will deal with the tunnels later, I hope later is like a few hours later instead of weeks. (Brief article doesn't elaborate)

If Shifa hospital is attacked, I hope it is evacuated first.

IDF estimates forces will begin entering Gaza City within 48 hours

The IDF estimates that forces in the Gaza Strip will completely surround Gaza City within 48 hours, and begin fighting inside the crowded city.
The aim of the operation will be to reach Hamas operatives who have been pushed into the city, and to destroy tunnels and Hamas' military and civilian institutions.
The IDF believes it is possible to meet the government's goal of destroying Hamas, but that it will requite a long period of time: from a number of months to a year, or even more. The IDF noted that in order to clear the area of terrorists, it is necessary to act thoroughly and relatively slowly.
The IDF also stated that at this stage, forces will refrain from entering tunnels, under the assumption that they are booby-trapped. Each tunnel is therefore handled from the outside by special forces to avoid putting soldiers in immediate danger, and allowing the tunnels to be dealt with at a later stage.
In some cases, if intelligence indicates it is appropriate, the air force will strike the tunnel from the air, neutralizing anyone inside.
At this stage, the IDF has not given an order for forces to begin operating in Shifa Hospital, where, according to intelligence assessments, many senior Hamas figures are hiding.
Senior IDF officials addressed the issue and did not rule out a military operation at the hospital if there is an opportunity to do so.

1,000 cancer patients and injured from Gaza will be taken to Turkey for treatment

Turkey and Egypt have agreed for some 1,000 cancer patients and other injured civilians needing urgent care in Gaza to be sent to Turkey for treatment, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.

"Our efforts continue for almost 1,000 patients, especially cancer patients who were being treated at the Turkey-Palestine Friendship hospital (the enclave's only cancer treatment hospital) that had to stop its operations, and wounded persons we were previously notified about and who are in need of urgent care, to be brought to Egypt through the Rafah border crossing," Koca said on social media platform X.

"After that, it is being planned for the cancer patients and those in emergency conditions to be transferred to our country via ambulance planes and hospital ships," he said.

'We barely see the terrorists. They’re underground': On the ground in Gaza with Israeli soldiers

An Israeli soldier on lookout duty at a command post in Gaza City over the weekend.

An Israeli soldier on lookout duty at a command post in Gaza City over the weekend.
On a veranda overlooking Gaza’s Mediterranean shore on Saturday afternoon, a sergeant in the Givati Infantry Brigade is studying the weekly Torah portion. Only he’s studying Bereshit and this week is already Vayera. “I haven’t had the time. I still need to make up since the Shabbat,” he says.

Now it’s eight days into the ground offensive and they’re starting to establish a combat routine inside the Gaza Strip.

Gunners inside the tanks and infantry fighting vehicles scour the ruins using their thermal cameras, searching for any sign of ambush.

There have been small arms fired and rocket propelled grenades, but not much action.

They have found quite a few tunnel exits. When that happens, an elite combat engineering and demolition unit is called and they blow them up.

Many more tunnel exits remain

The most difficult and dangerous part of this will be, when the soldiers will have to dismount and advance on foot. This part still lies ahead

___________

MOO My only concern about tanks is the possibility that they could accidentally flatten a tunnel exit before it is discovered. If that happens the tunnel can just be repaired. Hopefully that doesn't happen. Maybe ground radar/sonar prevents this.

A man from Gaza who lived in Canada for 30 years did not heed IDF requests to evacuate to the South, and now he's stuck. I'm curious why he remained in Northern Gaza, in the Hamas stronghold, when his only way out is in the South.

"The Rafah crossing, along the border dividing the Gaza Strip from Egypt and the only land exit from the war-torn Palestinian territory that's not controlled by Israel, remained closed Sunday, a day after evacuations were suspended.

That development has left hundreds of Canadians who want to leave Gaza in limbo. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) had previously told them they could be allowed into Egypt as early as Sunday, but the crossing has remained closed all weekend.
...

Al-Sabbagh said another complication is that her father, who has lived in Canada for over 30 years, is in northern Gaza, and roads heading south to Rafah are either blocked or destroyed."
