Hamas said it struck the Israeli cities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Sderot, Ashkelon and Ashdod on Monday, the third day of unrest since the militant group’s incursion began. Israel announced a siege on the Gaza Strip, with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant saying: “We are fighting savages, and we will act accordingly.” The Israeli government has declared war against the Palestinian militant group, and U.S. officials expect Israel to launch a ground incursion into densely populated Gaza early this week, according to people familiar with the matter

Since Hamas' Saturday invasion of southern Israel, there are at least 700 Israelis killed from the invasion and at least 700 dead Hamas terrorists, with around 300-400 dead from fighting in Israel and another 400 dead in Gaza from airstrikes. There are also over 2,000 wounded Israelis and over 2,300 wounded Gazans.
The IDF does not yet have a breakdown of how many of the wounded Gazans are fighters versus civilians, but in 2014 it was about 50% each, and in more recent wars the percentage of fighters has been much higher.

IDF slow to clear Gaza corridor of terrorists
The six areas of ongoing or new fighting in the Gaza corridor include: Kfar Gaza (7 terrorists identified), Beeri (70 terrorists identified, mostly killed now, but some have hidden inside Yishuv houses), Nirim (6 identified), Alumim (4 identified), Shaar Hanegev (3 identified), Nir Oz (4 identified), and Hulit (4 identified.)

Top IDF and US military officials are in regular touch and US forces in the region are now ready to both enhance IDF intelligence tracking of potential drone threats from Iranian proxies around the region, and potentially even to use American forces to shoot down such threats.

The footage, which was posted to Telegram, showed a group of men driving away on a motorcycle with 25-year-old Noa Argamani in their custody. The video then pans to another group of militants holding Ms. Argamani’s boyfriend, Avinatan Or, with an arm pinned behind his back.

A family member of Ms. Argamani confirmed to The Times that the video shows both her and Mr. Or. Moshe, Mr. Or’s brother, also shared screenshots of the video on Instagram, identifying both his brother and Ms. Argama

So is Hamas just a faction that operates in the Gaza Strip? Do they speak for Palestinians that live in Gaza? Is this like the Taliban in Afghanistan or is Hamas really a representation of the people there and what they want?

Israel orders 'complete siege' of Gaza, cutting off food and electricity, and prepares for massive ground offensive 'within 48 hours' in response to Jewish state's 'worst day in history'

You cant always get what you want, but you will get what you asked for.

To be clear, what I am about to say is in NO WAY trying to downplay Hamas’s motivation in these atrocities.

I think Iran’s involvement is being downplayed here and their motivation needs exploration.

Ya Ya, jihad, free the Muslim people, bring Mohammed to the world and back a terrorist organization for the betterment of the Palestinians. Hmmmm….nah.

IMO Iran USED Hamas for its own gain. Create instability, kill Israeli’s (Jew or not), just kill them all. Put this on the world stage and provoke the US into engaging. Poke the bear.

I think that this was such a surprise as it was all planned in Iran. The weaponry, the Gliders, the actual planning of the attack was planned in Iran. To downplay their involvement would be shortsighted and foolish. Iran is a barbaric country and we have seen that for years now. Iran wasn’t helping Hamas to be nice. There had to be something in it for them.

I have no answers to a situation that has been simmering for centuries let alone recent years.

What I do know is that Hamas needs to be dealt a death blow and it’s coming. The hostages may never survive this because it’s going to be a massive onslaught on Gaza. Many will die. Many. Women, children, teens, young adults and seniors are going to die. It’s inevitable.

So what will Hamas’ gain be when this is all done? It’s going to be worse for those who make it through. Death will be everywhere. Families destroyed. A humanitarian disaster is looming.

Iran gets to sit back and watch the chaos, the death and destruction, and the misery. They get to watch the world try to cope. Gas prices will rise, instability will ensue in the markets. Glee will be felt at the highest level of Iranian government.

Hamas may think they did this to free the oppressed and bring Israel to its knees but this action has no noble cause. They are going to be decimated and those that assisted them (for their own purposes) will have accomplished their goals with nary a ramification.

It is barbaric and evil what Hamas has perpetuated on Israel. They will pay dearly and all of the Palestinians will pay the price.

Next thing we’re going to hear is that Putin takes advantage of all eyes being on the Middle East so he can make more moves on Ukraine.

The world is terrible place right now.

And I do believe Israel will succeed which is why I condemn this attack by Hamas. This was not in the best interests of Palestinians and will only make their suffering and their plight even worse.

The Israeli government goes after Palestinians as a group not just Hamas. Ethnic cleansing through forced evictions from their homes is one example of how it targets them.

Hamas has brought much pain and suffering for the palestinians- but they don't even care about their own people- make no mistake about it, Israel will exact revenge and innocent palestinians will suffer in a very big way. Watching MSNBC - water has just been shut off to Gaza.

This article is behind a pay wall- - at this point the US states there is no evidence Iran is behind this grotesque attack, but I believe Iran is behind it and the article presents some pretty good evidence that this is the case. I don't believe Hamas could have devised and carried out such a massive and successful attack on its own. Hamas is not the brains: they are the brawn: Iran, IMO is the brains.

Cutting off the water is a necessity of life. It’s a big opening salvo. It is the most base need for humans to survive.

Not only will the loss of water dehumanize the Palestinians and psychologically increase already high anxiety among the population, the inability to access water to extinguish fires that result from bombings is a highly strategic move by Israel. I fear we are going to witness Gaza burn to the ground.

No water for baby formula. Hospitals without water.

The onslaught is coming.

<modsnip - quoted post/response removed>

It's mind boggling how any decent human being can support the actions that resulted in what we've all been seeing.
Something is clearly broken in these people.

Probably more so because of the 6 billion dollars the US releases to Iran.

Distance themselves from this.

So what monies iran had could be given to hamas knowing the 6 billion is on the way to have. Jmo

And I find it nigh on impossible to believe that Hamas did not foresee this type of response - which confirms what others have said: Hamas do not genuinely care about the Palestinians, they care about blood and “revenge” and martyrdom”. If that martyrdom involves hundreds or even thousands of Palestinians who have never been asked whether they personally want to be martyrs together with their children and senior - too bad.

Israel is only the first target, warns Hamas Commander in resurfaced video - Watch

This Hamas Commander says this is not about land, not just Palestine. "The entire planet will be under our law, there will be no more Jews or Christian traitors." Only then, if everyone adopts his law, will there be peace. pic.twitter.com/97sWBcH8yJ
