IDF says intense airstrikes targeted Gaza City ‘terror nest’

The Israel Defense Forces says it launched massive airstrikes against a coastal neighborhood of Gaza City, targeting dozens of sites.

It calls the area, dubbed al-Furqan after a mosque in the area, a “nest of terror” used by Hamas to launch attacks against Israel.

Dozens of fighter jets participated in the strikes, the IDF adds.

Wow, I had no idea we just gave $6B to Iran. That's nuts.

It was there’s.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed off on the sanctions waivers last week, a U.S. official told CBS News, a month after U.S. and Iranian officials said an agreement in principle was in place.

Qatar mediating with Hamas officials - reports

Mediators from Qatar have been in contact with Hamas officials to try to negotiate the release of Israeli women and children seized by the militant group and taken into Gaza, the Reuters news agency reports.

A source briefed on the talks told Reuters that the Qataris proposed the Israelis be exchanged for 36 Palestinian women and children detained in Israel.

The source said the talks were being conducted in co-ordination with the US.
Neither Israel nor Hamas have directly commented on the reports.

Israel Gaza live news: Israel orders 'siege' of Gaza with 'no electricity, food, or fuel' - BBC News

Hostages will be looked after, Hamas official claims

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's The World at One earlier, Hamas' head of international relations Basem Naim said the group is "committed and we are obliged to treat our hostages in a very human, dignified way".

He refused to confirm the number of hostages taken or number of civilians killed by Palestinian militants.

More than 700 people have been killed in Israel since Saturday,. Dozens of people were also kidnapped, with most having been taken into Gaza.

More than 500 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel began striking what it said were Hamas targets.

Naim claimed Hamas' leader Mohammad Deif instructed militants to "respect elderly, respect civilians, respect children" and "don't kill anyone who is not involved directly in the battle".

But we know that the militants in fact killed large numbers of civilians in cold blood in Israeli communities, including the massacre of nearly 300 people at the music festival near the Gaza border, many of them young people.

My neighbour, a young woman I'll call KT, is not returning tomorrow as planned. But her Aunt has spoken to her and she and her grandparents had a turn of events that was a very lucky decision. Her original plan was to take her grandparents, who are in the 70's, on a nice road trip down the coast from Tel Aviv. They would have been on the road in the danger zone at the worst possible time.

But her grandparents had been wanting to go see their other children and grandchildren---who had moved to Athens a few years ago. They wanted the grandparents to move there as well, but they refused to leave Israel because they loved their home, etc.

So KT decided to fly to Athens w/her grandparents, 4 days before the attack, and now of course, they plan to stay for awhile with their family.

KT had her Aunt come and pick up her cat, because she does not know when she is returning. I was relieved to hear they were safe and it is very lucky if not miraculous that she ended up moving her elderly loved ones to be with their large extended family, right when they needed each other the most.

Her Aunt did say one thing that is worrisome---she said there had been a bit of backlash against Israeli's in Athens after the bombings began. So the family is trying to lay low and wait to see what to do next. I bet they are just happy to be all together for right now.
A twist of fate: A seemingly simple decision, a change of plans, turns out to possibly be the difference between life and death.

Yes.
Very dignified to send families videos of them raping their daughter. Very dignified to send pictures of them beheading soldiers. Very dignified taking babies from their mothers. Savages.

An image published by a reporter for the Hezbollah-linked Al-Manar outlet shows a large blast in the area.

Another clip circulating on social media shows a Hezbollah observation post being targeted.

Earlier, the IDF said it was using combat helicopters to carry out strikes in the area, after troops killed several gunmen in Israeli territory near the Lebanon border.

Small-scale attack launched from southern Lebanon

Quentin Sommerville
Reporting from southern Lebanon

For the second day in a row, a small-scale attack has been launched from southern Lebanon into Israel. A number of armed men crossed the border near the Lebanese town of Dhayra and were killed by Israeli troops, supported by helicopter gunships, according to the Israeli military.

As many as six men are believed to have been involved, two were killed, three wounded and one escaped back across the border to Lebanon, although there has been no official confirmation of their numbers. Mortars were also fired into Israel, which then shelled the launch sites in Lebanon.

The Iranian-backed group Hezbollah said it was not involved in today’s attack – Palestinian militant groups have also launched assaults on Israel from the volatile border area in the past.

On Sunday, Hezbollah fired a number of shells and rockets at Israeli targets, in what it called an act of solidarity with Palestinians.

Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone took the field Sunday attempting to win a football game, while also concerned about his parents’ safety in Israel.

The seventh-year linebacker’s parents, Sal and Judy, are stuck in Israel during the deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“It’s hard,” Anzalone told The Detroit News “(It’s) really all I’ve been thinking about.”

Sal and Judy are part of a group of 53 Americans who are trapped in Israel after arriving on Oct. 2.

They are part of a tour group through the First Naples Baptist church in Naples. Fla, per the report.

The Detroit News reported the First Naples party has a flight scheduled to leave Israel via Tel Aviv on Thursday, but that area has been involved in the conflict.

Hezbollah threatens US, as Russia sees ‘high risk’ of 3rd party entering conflict

Hezbollah threatens to attack American positions in the Middle East should it intervene directly in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“Palestine is not Ukraine,” a spokesperson for the Lebanese terror group says in a statement, after the US moved warships closer to its ally Israel.

“If the US intervenes directly, all US positions in the region will become legitimate targets of the resistance axis and face our attacks. And on that day there will be no red line,” the spokesperson says.

REPORT: EGYPT SEEKS ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN PRISONER TRADE

Egypt has engaged in negotiations with Israel and Palestinian militant groups to release Palestinian women in Israel’s prisons in exchange for Israeli women captured by Hamas militants, the state-owned Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported Monday.

The daily paper quoted an unnamed source as saying that the negotiations were aimed at finalizing an agreement on the trade.

“The Egyptian government is presently awaiting responses from both parties regarding the proposed prisoners exchange and a temporary cease-fire,” Al-Ahram said.

Palestinian militant groups have claimed to be holding over 130 people who were captured in Israel in the past two days. Hamas spokesman Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua told The Associated Press by phone that the group’s fighters had captured more Israelis as recently as Monday morning.

He said the group aims to free all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, which in the past has agreed to lopsided exchanges.

I do hope they can do some' hostages for prisoner 'exchanges ---although that releases some dangerous people, most likely.

I heard on the news that there may be American citizens among the hostages taken by Hamas, but not sure if it has been confirmed by the State Department. If there are Americans among the hostages, would the U.S. government negotiate their release with a terrorist group like Hamas?
