Coast Guard: There are people who are coming down the ladder on the bow. Go back in the opposite direction, get back on the ship, and tell me how many people there are and what they have on board. Tell me if there are children, women and what type of help they need. And you tell me the number of each of these categories. Is that clear?
Listen Schettino, perhaps you have saved yourself from the sea but I will make you look very bad. I will make you pay for this. Dammit, go back on board!
Incredible night vision video from a rescue helicopter showing people along the side of ship waiting to evacuate. They are completely on the side of the ship.

Wow, amazing transcript between the coast guard and the captian.
Lot's more at the link.
My sympathies to all passengers and their families.
Just horrific.

Captain: Do you realize that it is dark and we can't see anything?
Bette. That link you posted yesterday with the ships leaving port.is that in Fl and does that link show them leaving everyday at the same time-Thanks for all the great info.. I have learned a lot from all your posts!!!
although I would have to say..that I am behind N/T I don't think I will be on a cruise ship in the near future, unless Cap.Scully changed his career>
Virtually every staff and crew member onboard a cruise ship has assigned duties during muster drills that are their responsibility in the event of a real emergency. This is part of their contract with the cruise line, and they are required to participate in training in various emergency and/or evacuation procedures. In a perfect world, they would rise to the occasion if it became necessary. But, human life as it is, and with the reality of a perilous situation like that of the Concordia looming, Officers, staff, and crew went into "survival mode": They all knew that the ship was going down and that there was little that they could do to prevent the disaster. jmo

Wow. Just wow. I personally feel Schettino should'nt be allowed to captain another ship, ever. That sounds harsh, and sometimes people make mistakes ; but lives were lost and they still haven't found everyone !
Those passengers need to be refunded their ticket prices--and not a 'voucher' for another trip....not sure many of those passengers will want to travel soon.
jmo.
Wanted to add that it's dangerous for the searchers as well ; this captain has put lives at risk and for what ?

I doubt he'll ever be hired for a cruise line, after his prison sentence is up
I heart the port authority officer demanding that coward back aboard the ship!!
Do we know his name yet?
Yes of course we know the captain's name. He is under arrest.
