When my DH and I were on a cruise last month, the Captain attended an informal meet & greet with passengers from a cruise message board roll call. The Captain was asked the question that you've posed here and responded by saying that on Princess Cruises,any/all decisions about altering a pre-determined itinerary are made by three senior officers, including the Captain.

Bette!:rocker: I do believe we are members of the same Board for cruisers. :seeya: Two cruises for me this year. April 1st-8th on NCL Star to Honduras, Belize, Cozumel and Costa Maya. Oct 7th NCL Epic Barcelona, Italy, France and Monaco. :great:

I just flew home from a trip to Italy and on the way home we flew over the cruise ship. I managed to take a quick pic on my cell phone before everyone else on the plane decided that apparently my window was the ONLY window on the plane from which one could see the ship. I'm surprised the plane didn't flip over since everyone was on one side of it looking out!

Anyway, with the naked eye, you would really see details of the ship. It was surreal. The cell phone didn't capture it quite as well, but it still remarkable. I wanted to grab my real camera and take a pic, but the other passengers decided that invading my personal space was more important! LOL

Carnival cruise ship ordered held in Galveston

A cruise ship was ordered held in Galveston by a U.S. judge in a lawsuit filed by the family of a German tourist who died in the Costa Concordia shipwreck off the Italian coast.
Triumph was scheduled to leave Friday for a five-day cruise to Yucatan and Cozumel, according to the Carnival website.
The ship was allowed to unload passengers and cargo, but must stay within the port until a hearing can be scheduled.
The $10 million lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court in Galveston by the family of Siglinde Stumpf. Stumpf was one of at least 25 people who died when the Costa Concordia ran aground off the coast of Italy in January.

LOL those attorneys. According to the attorney this suit is about safety concerns. But they seize assets. Then they allow the terms to be confidential. So if the settlement was about safety issues, how can they be monitored if no one knows what they are?

The suit may have been about the safety issues in the beginning. But I can only believe it was settled for money.

OT, but Costa Concordia disaster is mentioned with photo shown in video.

...From the moment our undercover producers walked up the gangway, the booze kept flowing. We saw many passengers drinking heavily before and during the mandatory lifeboat drill. Certainly not advisable considering what happened to the Costa Concordia when the luxury cruise ship capsized off the coast of Italy earlier this year killing over 30 people...

Well, I just returned from a Caribbean Cruise on the Celebrity Summit. There was lots of drinking, but none as over the top as mentioned in the article. I saw nobody lurching, except in high seas and people looked out for one another.

While some waiters were agressive about serving someone a drink, most weren't. That made me very happy.

The interesting time on board came when we were berthed with a Concordia ship. The on-board discussion was about whether the passengers were allowed to bow out or not after the Concordia disaster. The general consensus was to stay away from the whole Carnival line. I agree, since one short cruise I did with them was filled with drunken adults and teenagers like described in the article. I think the oldest child passenger I met was a well-behaved diabetic 12-year-old who had to eat gluten free. What an adventurous 12-year-old. She ordered the Buffalo Frog Legs and ate them with gusto.

There was only one thing I didn't like... the emergency drill before we set sail. We weren't required to bring life vests and we only met at the mustering station (in our case the casino). We were told that we would be led to our lifeboats from there in case of an emergency. Not good enough for me. I want the whole drill!

Francesco Schettino gave his first interview on Tuesday night, after being released from house arrest by a judge.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Despite legal obstacles that might force them to sue in Italy, hundreds of Costa Concordia passengers and up to 1,000 businesses on the island where the capsized cruise ship ran aground are pressing ahead with U.S. lawsuits seeking millions of dollars in damages from Miami-based Carnival Corp.

The lawsuits filed in both federal and state courts contend that Carnival is the corporate parent of the Costa brand, which operated the vessel, and is ultimately responsible for any safety violations, negligence or recklessness that may have led to the Jan. 13 accident that claimed 32 lives. Investigators say the ship rammed a reef while passing too close to Giglio Island, off Italy's Tuscan coast.

"Costa Cruise Lines is the alter ego of Carnival," said Edward Ricci, whose lawsuit seeks to represent Giglio Island tourist-related businesses that claim the disaster deterred visitors, polluted environmentally sensitive local waters and depressed property values...
