I can't believe we're on day 4 and zero details and it's nearing the end of the day there. This was a pretty big case at the beginning. I even tried searching the 2 largest newpapers in Italy and nothing.

The Italian broadcast Chi l'ha visto? has made a spoken translation in Italian of one of the conversations between the husband and his mother in law.

The post on FB dates from October 28.

Disappearance from ship on Mediterranean cruise: the trial of Li Yinglei's husband, accused of voluntary homicide and concealment of a corpse, has begun. A technical expert's report on wiretaps made during the detention of the man, who returned to live with his children and mother-in-law in the family home in Ireland, was requested.

A few snippets. I wish there were a transcript, but haven't found one yet

MiL: Is she still alive?
DB: I don't know
MiL: when did you see her for the last time?
DB: that must have been the thirteenth of february
MiL: but what did she say? why didn't she take....

~they talk about the phone, which she took with her, and her wallet too.~

(....)

Mil: has she died?
DB: I don't know
Mil: did you kill her? tell me, did you kill her?
DB: no no
Mil: look me in the eyes
DB: I swear I did not kill her

Very frustrating!

I would like to know how the prosecution build their case. I want to hear about witnesses. Is it a solid case? And so on.

This is from the preliminary hearing:

Preliminary hearing judge Maria Paola Tomaselli, rejected the evidence of Mr Belling (44) who told the court last week that his wife had got off the ship in the Greek port of Kalikon of her own volition.

The waitress told police that the last time she had seen Ms Li had been on the evening of February 10th when she, her husband and their children had dined together at their assigned table, No 704. in the Four Winds restaurant.

When she did not see Ms Li either at breakfast or lunch next day, she presumed that the woman had eaten at the ship’s buffet. She also told investigators that for the rest of the trip, Mr Belling and his two sons had eaten on their own, without Ms Li.

A cabin maid told police that she had not seen Ms Li after February 9th, adding that Mr Belling on the fourth day of the cruise had told her not to make up the sofa as a bed since only three people, not four, were sleeping in the cabin.

Waitress last saw Dublin-based couple together on 2nd night of cruise

So, what is the missing woman supposed to have done, where and how has she had her meals, between the last time she was allegedly seen aboard and her alleged disappearance in Kalikon, Greece days later?
The children are young, aged six and four at the time, have they been heard by LE?

And so on....

The only recent article I can find is this one. According to this article - it "seems" that the trial didn't start until Nov. 18, 2021, a Thursday. So I will go with that date & change my notes.

https://inf.news/en/world/390e1d6ef388b6e27644dc7211209587.html

Nov. 11, 2021
Irish Chinese woman Li Yinglei is the mother of two children. In 2017, she went on vacation with her family and disappeared on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean Sea. This week, her husband Daniel Belling (Daniel Belling) will appear in an Italian court.
[.....]
On Thursday, her husband Daniel Belling was tried for allegedly killing her and throwing her body into the sea. The Italian Circuit Court will try to answer this question.

Belling said that his wife is still alive and may be living in China, and she had planned to disappear before their family vacation.

However, the Italian prosecutor accused him of killing her and throwing her into the sea after a series of quarrels. The trial next week is the beginning of a process that may take up to three years.
[me: 3 years!!??!! :o ]
[.....]
Belling was detained by the Italian police for 14 months and was acquitted in April 2018, but the prosecutor continued to investigate the case. After his release, Belling told reporters that he thought he was framed by his wife. He described her as a "cruel person" because she allowed herself to spend 14 months in prison for a crime that "she knew I had not committed."
[.....]
Last year, the Italian authorities announced that he would face charges of killing his wife on a ship in 2017 and throwing her body into the sea.

Last week, Behring's Italian lawyer Luigi Conti told the Irish Independent that the trial will begin on Thursday [11/18/21], and the first day of proceedings will involve “acceptance of their respective witnesses”.

He will present the list of defense witnesses on behalf of the parties, including "Belling's friends and family members."

Belling has repeatedly denied that he killed his wife.
[.....]
According to his lawyer, some unusual circumstances opened the door to the possibility that Li Yinglei was still alive. He said: "During the months of Behring's imprisonment, someone changed the lock of their house."

"It's not the Irish authorities, nor the bank. It's not any relatives of the couple. Who is it?"

Another obvious strange phenomenon pointed out by Conti is that between April and May 2017, someone used Li Yinglei's credit card to pay for the M50 (Dublin Expressway) toll. In addition, the lawyer said he had evidence that the mother of two children said that she was “tired of life in Dublin and wanted to return to China”.

"Before they boarded the ship, Li Yinglei conducted interviews with psychologists and doctors in Ireland to prove that she was planning to leave Daniel."

Thanks. I saw this awhile ago but didn't post it due to how many misspellings, etc...and was unsure of the source. Thanks for cleaning it up. 3 years, eh? People in the US should stop complaining about trial lengths. ha ha
