A tanker truck exploded on a motorway just outside the northern Italian city of Bologna on Monday, engulfing the area with flames and black smoke, the fire service said, with local media reporting one person killed.

Italian police have revised the death toll down to one, the driver of the tanker which struck a queue of traffic on a motorway bridge. However 70+ people were injured, some with serious burns. The explosion of the tanker, which was carrying LPG, partially collapsed the bridge.

Agreed. It looks as though the tanker driver made no attempt to slow down so he may have been distracted by something such as fiddling with his phone.

I agree the tanker driver was not stopping. I think he fell asleep. Because even though he hit the truck I didnt see brake lights even after he hit.

The trucks behind him knew to get away and started backing up. They were experienced to know he may have a lethal load in the tanker.

The explosion is HUGE. You can see the cloud of gas to the right of the truck right before the big explosion. It is amazing how far to the left the flames went. Even houses near the highway may have been affected.

The poor people in cars near the tanker would have felt the concussion from that explosion.

Prayers for all the affected hurt people.

Its a lesson to learn from. If ever near an accident such as this. Try to get away safely from the area. Dont sit around near it. You never know when it can get worse like this one did.
