Found Deceased Jenny Hall, 23, described as a keen long distance runner, vehicle located on the B2678 between Eggleston & Stanhope, County Durham, Feb 18 2025.

All I can see on Police reports is

"Digital intelligence officers have examined Ms Hall's mobile phone, smartwatch and running apps, but have found no leads." Link below

It's possible someone has interpreted that as the physical phone and watch rather than just examining digitally another way - I <modsnip> But the word "examined" does sound like they physically have the phone and watch.

There is also another/different photo of her on this link. This is from one of the local papers that says it has live updates.

But shouldn't there be some GPS location data, some physical condition data that is useful?

"We want to thank the public for their ongoing support and whilst we appreciate the offer of volunteers, we would ask that people do not join the search themselves as this could disturb the ongoing work and potentially distract expert sniffer dogs," police said in a statement

A hoodie and joggers are perfectly normal running gear (I'm a runner). Long distance runners don't always go for long distance runs.
I agree! Runner here and I've worn all types of clothing to run in. I've also just walked or hiked to clear my head or when I don't "need" a run and just need something light to get my muscles moving/blood flowing. Should could have just been out to a favorite running spot to walk a few miles and think.

The location where the car is parked seems strange because there are no tracks or trails there. Possibly parked there because there was a layby/parking place, but would have had to have walked up the road to where the nearest track starts. Either that or just go straight onto the fells without tracks. There are disused mines in the area and sheep have sometimes disappeared down them. The entrances are covered but could collapse.

This is from google maps. The layby where the car was found and the location of the layby on the map (red arrow). Second map shows the area of Hamsterley Forest where the police are currently searching - there are trails there.

Photos show it's just moorland either side of the layby. It's about a mile up the road to the nearest walking track, so she probably went straight over the fells. If she went for a run. That's the right hand side of the moors on the photo towards Hamsterley Forest. The left hand side there is a beck near the bottom. Assume they have looked there.

The red ringed area is Hamsterley Forest area but not very accurate size wise - just to give an idea.

My personal belief is something bad happened unrelated to going for a run.

I do not know if her watch was in her car? But my smartwatch does not transmit gps data. Meaning, until my run is over and I save my data, my gps location is unknown.

Several apps including Apple Watch, Garmin and Strava would allow family or friends to track gps location in real time, but they must be set up in advance with location purposefully shared. The majority of long distance runners I know do not allow automatic gps tracking. If they are concerned about location or safety, they run with a friend. Just my anecdotal experience.

I get the impression her family didn't know she had gone for a run. The reports that she might have been going to Barnard Castle (eg in her car) were from the first day, before they found her car on the moors. As well as what she was wearing, her family said she might have been carrying a green jacket. There has been no mention of whether a jacket was found in the car, but you would think that might be too much to wear if going for a run.

"She was last seen wearing a blue John Deere hoodie, dark jogging bottoms, and may have been carrying a green jacket."

What do runners think - from that map. Would Hamsterley forest be too far to go and get back again before dark? If she set off about 3.45pm? Gets dark between 5 and 5.30pm.

Edit - the forest comes further across than my red circle so maybe not that far from the road as it looks.

I suppose we don't know what time the car arrived at the layby. If she had actually gone to Barnard Castle, she could have driven up there later with someone else possibly.
I assume there would be some CCTV from Barnard Castle maybe? Maybe they have looked at this and ruled out that she went there. I just got the impression parents thought she may be going for a run to Barnard Castle as opposed to going to visit it.

Forget that, the Dashcam footage of her car was taken an hour after she left home - so around 4pm

"The video was taken just one hour after Jenny Hall left her home in Tow Law, County Durham, shortly after 3pm on Tuesday."

Yes I was wondering the same - if she was believed to be going to Barnard castle which is south of where her car was left, then she could have met with someone else before arriving at the lay-by. Police have not divulged much information and we don’t know where the ‘going for a run’ has come from. JMO.

Those mines could be one reason why the police don't want the public to search. They don't need someone falling down one of them on top of the search.
