I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy post chemo. Was having alot of stomach/gastro problems during chemo that continued on after. Had been on Warfarin because I had developed clots in legs months before. (I could write a book on what has happened to me since chemo) Warfarin levels checked before procedure..all o.k. Had procedure and felt fine. Went to bed at about 5pm feeling tired. Son woke me to come and look at how he had installed anew dishwasher. Got out of bed and wow. Head swimming, falling over. Wanted to go to the toilet..filled bowl with blood. He rushed me to hospital. B.P so low..Checked INR: It had doubled blood was as thin as water. Don't know hat happened to cause this. Clotting agents given. Blood transfusions and a week in hospital.

This was all routine procedure. You just never know what might happen to you!!!

Hope you are okay. Surprised they didn't have you stop the Warfarin before your procedure, it is a blood thinner.

I just looked at this update also and wonder what it means. Did they have to stop the process of removing her off of life support? Any ideas what has happened?

Until now, I believe that it was only media reps reporting on the "life support" status of Ms. Rivers. This report appears to be directly from Joan's daughter, Melissa, who is confirming that her mother is, indeed, on life-sustaining apparatus.

What Went Wrong? Top Doc Shows How Joan Rivers' Routine Procedure Could Have Became a Medical Crisis

Airdate: 09/02/2014

Doctors are preparing to bring legendary comedienne Joan Rivers out of her medically-induced coma.

Only then will we find out if the 81-year-old's brain function has been damaged by her medical crisis. Rivers has been on life support at a hospital in New York since last Thursday. The question now is whether she will be left in a vegetative state.

Daughter Melissa Rivers released a statement saying: “We are keeping our fingers crossed."

Rivers went into cardiac arrest at a private clinic in Manhattan. She was having an endoscopy, a procedure meant to determine why she was having trouble with her vocal chords.

Many are asking what went wrong...

I can only speculate. I previously read that they wanted to see if she would improve on her own off life support-(not likely), now I've read that they want to bring her out of her coma, which was medically induced. It seems her daughter wants to keep her alive.

I think they said they were going to bring her out of the medically induced coma. Then they can see if she has the resources to be able to come off of life support. I would assume that would mean if she were showing signs of taking more breaths than the ventilator was giving and other signs of alertness.

My BIL was recently in a horrific accident and spent a bit of time in a medical coma and once they let him come out of that, one of the signs of progress was that he was taking breaths beyond what the ventilator did for him. It took a while for his cognitive state to come back (He is ok now and home, thank God)

Thanks for the replies. I understood it that she was to begin the process of coming out of the medically induced coma this past Sunday and that it would take 2 days. I was watching for an update that was to be today (Tues).

A little confusing to me and thanks again! I wish for the best possible outcome for Ms. Rivers.

I did stop Warfarin the day before procedure and blood test showed clotting normal. The one thing was I had to drink litres on litres on fluids the day prior so did all this fluid and laxative thin my blood? That is the mystery. The gastrologist said he would write me in 3 years to have another one. I don't think so!

Intermezzo, as a former Speech Pathologist, I am guessing she only had the Endoscopy done to determine the need for surgery on her cords.

I believe she had a scheduled performance the following day .. So that does lead me to believe also it was not any type of surgery

I would never believe anthing E -whoever reports. Why don't they just tell the truth as to what is going on? Did Joan have a DNR? Being realist here, If God forbid, she comes out not her 100% as she would want but a "burden" as she has said, but could survive, what could they do? I don't care for Joan's most recent less than respectful non humor, but I wish her sincere wishes for her recovery.I mean if they found she could live without life support, but perhaps never speak, move, would they know that during life support? I know I confused this post. Sorry

Daughter: Joan Rivers leaves ICU

It's unclear if Rivers is still on life support

Joan Rivers has been moved out of the intensive care unit and into a private hospital room, her daughter said Wednesday.

Melissa Rivers, who confirmed Tuesday that her mother was on life support, did not indicate if the change was the result of an improved medical condition six days after she suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest during a medical procedure.

"My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable," she said. "Thank you for your continued support."

It is not clear if Rivers is still on life support, which "replaces or supports a failing bodily function," according to an explanation from the Cleveland Clinic...

Article seems to indicate she is still on life support. May have been moved to a neuro unit and possibly a respiratory unit. Generally there are not too many patients in private rooms who are on life support. I feel for the nurses who care for those patients as well as others at the same time. Extremely stressful.

I assumed the private room was hospice, but perhaps jumped to that conclusion as a relative of mine recently went from a hospital room to a private hospice room.

I wish the best for Joan Rivers and family - this is a hard sea to navigate, and there is no map.
