Arias also claimed that she was unaware of the Hoover Dam checkpoint. I call BS on that as well, as the police at the checkpoint most certainly have noticed an upside down California license plate with no front plate. Most likely, she flipped the back plate, put the front plate back on, and after the checkpoint, turned the back plate upside down again. JM should have called her out on the front license plate screws ...

Anyone know if the front license plate was on the rental when she was stopped in Utah ?

I'd also wager that there was a reason for killing Travis around 5:30 PM - time to clean up before the roomies got home and the sun in Arizona set that day around 7:30 PM, giving Arias time to burn and dispose of the evidence under cover of darkness before hitting the Hoover Dam checkpoint.

If she had killed him at 2:30, she would have had to dispose of evidence in the daylight.

Arias brought all this media attention on herself ... I wonder how she's enjoying that now.

I know the murder weapons are not needed in the state's case to secure a conviction but ...
Is there any chance JM has the murder weapons without the DT's knowledge?

If so, can JM still enter them into evidence and use them in his case? TIA

:gasp: how cool would that be?!??!
probably not allowed though....

I wonder what would make her think an upside down license plate would fool anyone. They are pretty easy to read that way; even if it trips up computer software associated with cameras, one could still read it from the video taken.

IMO, Jodi removed both front and back license plates and put on a bogus plate that she had/found/stole stashed somewhere. Maybe it was a AZ plate so she would only have needed one. That way if the car was seen on video the car would not stand out, and even if it did it would not lead immediately to her or to the rental company.

I think the upside down plate happened when she changed the plate back to the CA plate, probably out in the middle of nowhere after dusk or after dark. She just never noticed she put it on upside down. And since the back was hard enough to do in the dark she didn't bother with the front plate at that time. Either that or a car was coming and she only had time to do the rear plate.

The DT brought up that they would like a copy of the tape that Hughes brought to JMV (re- shooting guns with Travis).
Once the DT mentioned they wanted a copy, Juan says he may want Hughs for rebuttal, so being a potential witness, he had to leave the courtroom, and not discuss or watch the case.

I remember this differently. I thought defense asked him to be removed because they heard JM wanted to call him during rebuttal? Either way, I wonder if either will call him now.

Whats the idea on what she went back to give DB? I heard it was a remote, was it a car remote, garage remote? what kind of remote? and could it possibly be the remote from the dvd player that was stolen in the burglary? Do you think Jaun has something up his sleeve about this? He seems 100% sure she staged the burglary at her grandparents house. I wonder if DB told them she gave a dvd player as a present....Why would a remote be in her bag???

OMG, you are right! I was racking my brains wondering why JM was focusing on the remote. After reading this, I looked it up and you're right - a DVD player was stolen from the grandparents house. Wow, that is the nail in the coffin for little miss killer.

I'm just catching up w/ posts, so I'm sure by the time this shows up it would have been discussed and I'm going to apologize in advance. I just can't believe how excited I am over this.

Jurors viewed photos of Arias's grandparents home and heard from Officer Friedman on the items that were reportedly taken: the handgun, $30 in cash and a DVD player were taken. Just as importantly, Prosecutor Juan Martinez pointed to items that weren't taken, such as the television, Arias's laptop, and stacks of quarters were located immediately above the cabinet where the 25 caliber gun was taken. Other guns remained untouched in the home.

I hate to say this but I just looked and I believe he is still being stabbed and is defending himself at this point. Blood from the chest wounds would be pouring profusely over his body before the throat wound ever occurs.

It is very startling/disturbing to look at this picture in this new way.

IMO

Gravity would require that big blood trail down his back to be from a wound above his collar bone. Right above that area is a horrible deep wound just under the right ear. I think the blood is from there and the puddles are from any one of a number of vicious stabs to the head, which you can see have made his hair look like it's long--that's all blood curtaining off his head.....feeling lightheaded again.

OK, I am listening to yesterday's testimony because I AM going to find where he asked her about getting Travis in the shower.
But, as I am listening, Marcia Clark's talk on the judge keeps popping in my head. She said when Nurmi yells objection, the judge should either overrule or sustain it. Instead she CONTINUIOUSLY says "rephrase".
I am really noticing it now. And it's really bugging me.

What are HLN hosts saying Nurmi whispered to JA??? I missed that part!! That he is coaching her illegally???

Rebuttal is one of the few vehicles whereby a party may introduce surprise evidence or witnesses. The basic process is as follows: Both sides of a controversy are obliged to declare in advance of trial what witnesses they plan to call, and what each witness is expected to testify to. When either a plaintiff (or prosecutor) or defendant brings direct evidence or testimony which was not anticipated, the other side may be granted a specific opportunity to rebut it. In rebuttal, the rebutting party may generally bring witnesses and evidence which were never declared before, so long as they serve to rebut the prior evidence.

I have heard that before though in other cases. TO me and my unlegal mind, It means the question is good just phrased wrong?

yup yup yup

that is a piece of forensic evidence that she CANNOT match up with her current story (sorry arias). The only way she can make that fit is if she admitted that he was stabbed first (which she won't).

I truly believe with all my being that she is sticking to her shothimfirstsandwentintoafog story because of the penalty phase (DP).

But

Her story does not work... and her attempt at trying to make version 5.0 match the forensics is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

But the judge ruled in a hearing on this very subject (DT wanting to have the DP dropped) that the sequence did not matter. Any sequence would be cruel and deserved a murder 1 charge and would remain a DP case.

I believe the AZSC ruled on the same thing - in the same way.

The sequence doesn't matter. Any/every sequence is equally qualified for murder 1/DP.

The only reason I can think of that she's sticking to the story devised (when they thought the sequence mattered) is because if she didn't, it would be harder for her to have 'no memory' of the stabbing/slashing.

There's no way Juan wouldn't have cornered her into making statements that showed she knew exactly how the stabbing started (at least) without the gun coming first.

She wants to be as far removed from the truly brutal, bloody part of this murder as she can, in an attempt to keep her little snowflake image as pristine as possible. She doesn't want to paint the gory picture of how she stabbed/slashed this poor young man... the violence described would destroy her beyond words and basically ensure a conviction of murder 1/DP.

imv :)

Why won't JA just admit that she cut her finger on June 4 during the murder? I mean, she's already said she was there...she's already said she was the one that stabbed him...she's already admitted that she's lied about a lot of things, so why not admit that she lied about that too? Is it b/c she needed to use that finger to substantiate the lie about Travis abusing her?
She needs some kind of visible evidence of prior DV - so she is using the injury to the left ring finger (probably a cut tendon) that occurred during the murder but she is attributing it to a kick from TA back in Jan. '08 that "broke" the finger.

Could be ...

Arias also testified that she did not know about the Hoover Dam checkpoint. I find that extremely hard to believe as don't you have to go through the checkpoint to get to Las Vegas ? And she never went to Las Vegas from Mesa with Travis & company before 6/4/08 ?

Autopsy, crime scene photos maybe, but I'm specifically talking about the 20 photos from TA's camera that the investigator found deleted.

IIRC, weren't those pics of the sex between them that wasn't shown to anyone? I sure don't wanna see them.

yes thats how it is in my mind. its better than sustained anyway.

Sure Jodi would be "relieved" to get away with murdering Travis and have no one suspecting she was his killer for the rest of her life.

It was Jodi's goal to avoid detection or connection to the crime. She says goal. Calling the detective, leaving the messages to Travis after he was dead, going to see Ryan is all part of her goal. That must include killing Travis as part of her goal which means it was premeditated, IMO.

Great catch! Those are her words!
