There are going to be a lot of people on the jury who feel the way you do and this attempt to blame her parents for her actions hopefully will backfire as will using the term "beatings".

Many people feel this is just spanking.

I, myself am against corporal punishment of any kind. But what she is describing wouldn't even be a mitigator for me, let alone explain why a person would involve themselves in an abusive relationship.

Again, he is making a mistake by using the term "beating." People on that jury have been spanked and spanked their own kids, occasionally a bit too hard. That does not make a person murder someone.
