Josh allegedly visits strip club after wife disappearance?

As a new state law requires, the club scans driver's licenses of patrons as they enter. Cooper said the man who entered that afternoon would have had his license scanned. That data is stored in the machine for seven days, she said.

After Susan Powell's disappearance began to make headlines, one of the bartenders and at least two patrons remembered the belligerent man who was in the bar days earlier. Police were called and detectives went to the club and to the homes of some of those witnesses to interview them, Cooper said. They were too late to check the scanning gun. But no one that day can remember checking an ID that said "Josh Powell," she said.

Cooper said there were at least three people who took close notice of the man. One was the bartender. She told the co-owner that she picked Powell out of a photo lineup that police gave her at her house.

"She said, 'This was the guy who was in the bar making such an a-- of himself,' " Cooper said. "She said she positively ID'd him. She said she 'was sure' that was him."

One of the patrons, however, told Cooper that he was only mostly sure now that it was Powell but not 100 percent convinced. A third regular patron, she said, did not believe the man was Josh Powell, saying that this man's hair was longer than Josh's.

Friends doubt Josh Powell was at tavern
Reported by: Marcos Ortiz

WEST VALLEY CITY (ABC4 News) – Close friends of Susan Powell doubt her husband was inside a bar drinking the day after she went missing.

Customers and employees of the Deuces Wild in South Salt Lake were investigated by West Valley Police about the possible sighting.

They claimed that a man believed to be Josh Powell was inside the bar drinking and being obnoxious.

But it’s hard to believe that it was Josh according to Susan’s close friends.

"It's extremely uncharacteristic of him,” said Kiirsi Hellewell, a close friend of Susan. “I don't think you could find anyone who knows Josh that he would be drinking."

JoVonna Owings is also a close friend of Susan and even spoke with Josh by phone the following day after her disappearance in December.

“I personally can't imagine that he could do anything like that,” Owings said.

Josh Powell's a non-practicing Mormon.

And Owings said Susan never told her that he ever drank.

"I think she would have expressed it if there was a problem she would have expressed it,” she said.

Police investigated the possible sighting but couldn't confirm it beyond a reasonable doubt.

Investigators learned of it days after her disappearance. And pictures of Josh Powell were all over the news.

“There was opportunity for them to see Josh's photograph on the news and see footage of him and there could possibly be some transposing of ideas there and that may either taint or support their account," said Captain Tom McLachlan.

And if Josh was inside the bar, where were his children? Were they outside in the van?

“I don't think he would have ever done that,” said Owings. “No he was very attentive to those children, very attentive to those boys and he always knew where they were at and what they were doing all the time.”

Police also said that Josh Powell was interviewed about ninety minutes after he was supposedly at the tavern.

“They had not detected any presence of alcohol odor or anything like that,” said Cpt. McLachlan.

Well isn't this certainly special :loser: It would not surprise me one bit, I wonder where the boys were ? Did Josh ever leave like in and out and back in like he was checking on the boys ? 2 hrs is a long time for someone not to notice little children in a car left alone, I wonder if they have their days mixed up and perhaps it was the following day when Josh took off in the rental car by himself and was gone for 24 hrs, that is when he left his kids with his sister I believe.

If this is true it would be my opinion that LE is letting this leak out to see if any other patrons of the bar may come forward and say they saw him to, trying to firm that up for timeline purpose's. Patron's in the club are so busy looking at T and A they may need a little poke to jog their memory.

Lets hope other people come out of the woodwork that said he was there.

What a pig ....[/QUOTE]

http://www.examiner.com/x-34328-Sea...rinking-the-day-his-wife-was-reported-missing

Debbie Caldwell said, "I suppose anything's possible. I'm thinking ... if that were the case where were the boys? He claims he left around midnight with the boys and arrived home with the boys. But, no one knows where he actually was during that time. I just don't know what to think."

"There were times he was late picking Susan up," she continued. "He claimed he needed the time to do other things, though he never told me where he was or what he was doing, and Susan never mentioned he'd told her. He got off work at 4:30 p.m. and it would be after 6 p.m. before he would show up. I never thought it was my business to ask where he'd been."

"It's never made sense to me," Caldwell added, "that he would take the children away from Utah and away from the family, friends, and support system they knew."

"I don't have any idea why anybody would say something like that," Powell's attorney, Scott Williams, told KSL Monday. "We have no need to respond."

"Owings told KSL she spoke with Josh Powell on his cell phone the following day before he came home, but she declined to talk about what was discussed."

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705351526/Sources-Josh-Powell-hires-attorney.html

Owings also talked to Josh on his cell phone Monday afternoon around 4 p.m., before he returned home. She would not say what the two talked about. She did say she hopes this mystery will be solved soon because the boys need their mother.

...................I can't find the article that I am looking for, but I remember reading that several people had attempted to call Josh on Monday, the 7th. He wasn't answering. Later, Jovanna's son called and when Josh unexpectedly answered he hung up. Jovanna then called Josh back and asked where he was, and he said he was driving around in West Valley City. She asked if he knew where Susan was. He stated that she was at work. Jovanna then said the police are at his house and that he needed to get home as soon as possible. Then he arrived 2 hours later. (This is all from my memory, but I will continue to try to locate the exact article.)

Is it possible to recover old information off of something like that?

We're talking about a man who just killed his wife! A man who left two babies home alone while he chased down his wife on her bicycle so she could stay home from work to take care of them when they were sick.

Men like Josh are lacking that paternal protection gene. Think of how many men leave babies in cars on hot days to cook to death. We've heard of other men who leave slightly older kids alone in cars in snowy weather too. I don't think he really gives a rat's *ss about those boys except when he is trying to get away from reporters! I wouldn't put it past him to leave those boys in subfreezing weather at all. Probably gave them a lighter and told them to make smores while daddy "sees a man about a pony."

Probably expected to be in the bar 15 minutes, which magically turned into 2 hours. No, I don't have a problem with it at all.

I have read, previously, of this exact same thing happening. The father being charged also. Leaves the kids in the car and goes into a sleez bar for a few hours.

I can't remember the name of the trucking co he worked for!! I remember it started with a A, and can't find it on the web/yellow pages. Help. Trying to see proximity (routes) of this club to his past employer. Truckers undoubtedly knew of this place.!!!!!

If he'd have said "no comment", that would have raised suspicions that Josh was guilty of visiting the strip club. Saying "we have no need to respond" implies there is no reason to respond because it wasn't Josh. (In my opinion.)

I agree. It would have been the first thing on their minds when they talked to LE. Charlie would have said something. I was thinking that staying overnight with a generator running is very different than in a cold van.

If he let those kids stay in a vacant house, with a generator running to keep them warm, that is unbelievable. I don't know what's worse of the two....locked in a (running?) van or this. Those things are a carbon monoxide nightmare. You never use a generator in a closed setting.

IMO it's very true to form of Josh to go someplace such as a strip club and want peoples attention, everything all about him "He had a bad day" Geez Josh, what kind of a day do you think Susan was having? What kind of a day do you think your son's are having being taken out of their warm beds and out into the freezing dark night?

I understand friends thinking it would not be like Josh to go to a strip club, but what they'll have to come to terms with eventually is that they did not know who Josh really is, he pretended to be a certain way because it suited his purpose, much like I believe he pretended to be a certain way to get Susan to marry him.

What I worry about now is, with Susan gone, where is Josh putting all of him control issues? People can only do the "acting nice" for so long and then the mean. spiteful acts always seem to come out. From the sounds of it he did many hateful things towards Susan and now that she's not there to be the target, someone else is going to be.

VB

Your right. I think we have seen the beginning of it on his website......., but I wonder what is going on in that house in WA too. Having Joshy home and especially with the children, this would have to be a big 'upset' in the others' routine. I don't think we have seen all of the dark side of Josh---nor the father. I'm wondering if Josh has become the 'son' again, to his controlling father? I doubt that Josh has much to say in his situation. Then again, if he did, or tried to pull his controlling act on the father or other family members, I'm certain the sparks flew. He may be hidden from people and the media, but I bet anything he feels like a trapped animal right now. Building, building, boom. You watch.

I believe this story.

The friends of Susan Powell who are doubting JP was at the strip club are the same friends who believe JP killed Susan, put her in the back of the family van, loaded up Charlie and Braden and went off on an escapade to bury Susan's body.

If JP was nefarious enough to have the boys in the van with him while he was transporting Susan's body, it is NOT impossible for me to believe he left them asleep in the back of the van covered up with blankets while he went into the strip club!

One would think a father who has his 2 and 4 year old children in a van with their dead mother in the back would bring something along to keep the children sedated while he disposes of her body!

One of the first things JP probably thought about while he was in the "what am I going to do now?" phase, if he killed Susan, was how he'd prevent the boys from witnessing him getting rid of their mother which caused him to quickly realize he needed to sedate them to prevent them from waking up while he was digging the hole or getting her out of the van to drag her body, etc.

It would be nice to know if Susan or JP had a prescription for sleeping or anti-anxiety medication, either past or present, which Josh could have easily given to the boys with Clonipin being a good example because it tastes good and dissolves in the mouth.

The reason Josh didn't come home immediately after being informed Susan was missing was because he was at this strip club, not "just driving around West Valley City" like he told Tim Peterson! If JP was simply 2 hours away from West Valley City, he would have said, I was driving home!

This scenario is simply my opinion!

There was a call at 3pm and at 4pm, one by Kiirsi and the other by JoVanna, I think. Those pings had to be telling. I'm beginning to think if this story is true, then I think we know where he had been spending his unemployed moments......not fixing up the basement or deck!

Great post! It's interesting how the strip clubs are clustered together. If Josh was in the habit of going to strip clubs, it would make sense that he had a favorite and when he felt the need to go after he allegedly disposed of Susan's body, it would make sense that he'd choose one that he'd not been in for fear of being recognized.

If Josh Powell has been living a secret life and going to strip clubs, surely other people will come forward to contact the media to share what they know.

Who is to say how drunk Josh got, if he really was at the strip club! Many bars have bottles of watered down liquor they pour for the unsuspecting. Plus, if he drank right away, by the time he got to his home, if he was in the bar beginning at 2:00, he would have sobered up and could have eaten some breath mints or chewed some gum.

Plus, when people are "tweeking" (under the influence of methamphetamine aka crank), it takes a lot of alcohol to get drunk!

Maybe when Josh left at 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 6, 2009, the day before Susan disappeared, he really didn't leave to go sledding but to score some crank!

I was waiting for the usual "we will look into all available legal options" statement. When something is false people want it shot down. Was a pretty tame rebuttal IMO.

Finally found the name of the trucking co (Aspen Distribution). It is only 8+ miles from his place of work to Duces Wild, and only 13+ from their house. Of course, the other clubs are much closer.

TO EDIT: Looks like the closest is 4 mi. and the others are less than 7 mi. Can't get the link to work--but here's the info:

Baby Dolls‎ - 6.1 mi

American Bush Inc‎ - 5.5 mi

This high profile attorney took Josh Powell's case pro bono so he's spending as little time as possible on it. I'm surprised he took the time to speak to the reporter. Most likely the reporter spoke to his secretary who relayed a message to him and he told his secretary what to tell the reporter.

I wonder if this business was near his former trucking/warehouse job? 300 West isn't really a "main" road like State street would be.

I think there is a car wash near the strip club on 300 West - about 1400 South and 300 West - you vacuum the interior yourself, the vacuums are "free" with the car wash and last as long as you need them. Maybe he took the van in for a wash and then he vacuumed the interior and stopped by the strip club on his way back home?

Probably this car wash: http://duceswildslc.com/CarWash.aspx JEEEZZZZZZZZZZ!
