I wonder what happened in 2013?

"The couple, pictured with six of their seven young children, subscribed to a service in 2013 called Covenant Eyes that monitors adult internet use and would report 'objectionable material' to wife Anna, the court heard"

They got married in 2008. The sexual assaults of his sisters became public knowledge in 2015. The affairs and the Ashley Madison scandal happened a few months later. Danica Dillon filed her sexual assault lawsuit later that same year.

So what happened in 2013 that made Covenant Eyes necessary? What did he get caught doing in 2013?

And speaking of Ashley Madison, why on earth would Anna name her latest child Madyson????

Josh Duggar is found GUILTY on two counts of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 | Daily Mail Online
Good questions.

Accepting a plea bargain is a decrease of 3 levels (points) in the sentencing guidelines, so about 2-3 years would have been shaved off if he took a plea, IIRC.

Also interesting is this:

(5) If the defendant engaged in a pattern of activity involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor, increase by 5 levels.

Pattern of activity involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor” means any combination of two or more separate instances of the sexual abuse or sexual exploitation of a minor by the defendant, whether or not the abuse or exploitation (A) occurred during the course of the offense; (B) involved the same minor; or (C) resulted in a conviction for such conduct.

ETA: That would put us at level 37 - which is 210-262 months.
I'm doing the math.....

17+ years to 21+ years?

I wonder how this judge generally metes out prison time in these cases…
Does he even have discretion? From ^^^ it seems to be like paint by numbers. You tick boxes and add up the totals.

Yeah his smile doesn't reach his eyes. I don't think he is genuinely happy or smug in that moment. To me, he looks like someone who is shocked and scared and is trying to cover but not putting much effort into it.

He could be shocked he lost. I wonder if JB counseled against him taking a plea?

That it looks better (for the Duggar Brand) to plead not guilty. Then if you lose at trial you can keep appealing and say you are innocent and were set up.

That this is better (for the Duggar Brand) than to plead guilty and get the lesser sentence.

I was surprised he did not negotiate a plea. Like drop a charge and get a few years in prison.

Snipped for focus....

This seems to me very unfortunate.... You could be innocent and take a charge to trial, and if you were convicted, you'd have the extra penalty.

Any knowledgeable folks here on when he would be eligible for parole? If he’s sentenced to however many years, what part of that sentence is he required to serve before the possibility of parole?

Federal prisoners are required to serve 85% of their sentence. He'll be there a while.

For Club Fed you serve 80% of your sentence minimum.

My guess is his lawyers begged him to take a plea, and he refused. Based on the reactions described in the courtroom, I think he truly expected to be found not guilty.

A statement regarding Joshua Duggar’s guilty verdict.

This entire ordeal has been very grievous. Today, God’s grace, through the love and prayers of so many, has sustained us. Our hearts and prayers are with anyone who has ever been harmed through CSAM.

In the days ahead, we will do all we can to surround our daughter-in-law Anna and their children with love and support. As parents, we will never stop praying for Joshua, and loving him, as we do all of our children. In each of life’s circumstances, we place our trust in God. He is our source of strength and refuge. Thank you for your prayers.

Wow, what an absolute non-statement.

The wording seems, just, so "poor us", from the very first sentence. It's all kinda pouty and put-upon IMO. And the rest of it is distant and perfunctory, angry. IMO.

I don't think they ever expected this. I feel so sorry for Anna being caught up in this.
That's my take.

Federal inmates serve 85% of their sentences before parole.

10 year sentence = 8 1/2 years.

They can earn 15% A year "good time."

He gets time served credit for the day he was arrested and for any time he spends in jail.

My guess is his lawyers begged him to take a plea, and he refused. Based on the reactions described in the courtroom, I think he truly expected to be found not guilty.

Can you (or someone) link the article that describes the family's reactions in the courtroom? The article was linked earlier and when I went back to read it I couldn't find it.

Lawyers run a business. They don't tell clients what to do, especially if it hits their paycheck.

They told him the facts and let him make a decision. Obviously, the wrong one. Wouldn't have expected anything else from Josh Duggar.

I'm glad he was convicted and hope he receives a long sentence.

If we care about his innocent children, and I'm sure we all do, we have to care about Anna. Regardless of the poor decisions she may have made (she is an adult,) the balance has to come out on the side of hoping the best for her, because that is how things will go best for the children.

My fantasy outcome would be that a good private Christian school (because that's the only way she would let her children go out to school,) would offer her a job at the school. Para professional. She's probably good with kids. In my fantasy though, it would not be a fundamentalist type of school, but a more open, loving and accepting school. She would then be out in the wider world; she could keep an eye on her kids and get to know their teachers and what is going on in the school, her children would receive support and encouragement, as would she. As I said, just my fantasy for the kids.

I just looked thru the family blog where Jill and her husband gave a statement. I thought they broke away from the clan but the married children and their spouses share the Duggar blog. Kinda creepy.

They have their own blog called dillardfamily.com. Did they post something on the Duggar blog too? The statement I saw from them was from the Dillard Family site.
