According to the comments at the bottom of the article
KIRO is reporting he used the kesagiri chop or a double axe handle move, (it's a wrestling move) only he used the hatchet as he did it.

Look that up I just watched a video showing that, trust me I don't think they knew anything after that and that is exactly what I suspect happened to Susan.

He was pure unadulterated EVIL!

I don't even want to know what that move is.

"We have circumstantial evidence that I'm not allowed to talk about," Nielsen said of a pending arrest.

"We were making progress" towards an arrest, Nielsen says. @fox13now #findsusan #Utah

Yes, I think these 2 are connected. It seems the circumstantial evidence was against Josh.

Something to consider... I've had an email function where you can send your email in the future. I used this to send birthday greetings. I don't think the email I have now does that though. Are there still emails that can do that, I wonder?

I'm trying to understand how he had time to do all these steps.

Another thing he could have done was written the emails in drafts way ahead of time, and then quickly sent them.
I was going to post this. E-mails can be composed and scheduled to be sent at a later date. I think that was probably the case here.

It's back up now.
They replay the 9pm news in just a minute... if anyone wants to watch. I am not sure if it plays online or just on TV.

Fox 13's website won't even work for me...

I was going to try and check all the news websites... as we have a sudden crime spree in our area... they all work, except Fox.
I wonder if it's because of the boys? Or if it's just me...

There reporting it as 5minutes after the boys ran inside.. With 1neighbor saying it was only 3minutes from that point that the home was engulfed in flames... It is that which leads me to believe that 3-5mins is no way, no how enough time to spread 10gallons of gasoline on top of what he did to the boys.. And that the sw upon reaching the door immediately smelled the gasoline..

We'll know more about the actual and accurate time frame and at that point it will be alot more clear of what was or wasn't done prepping immediately preceding the 12:30 arrival of the boys for their scheduled visitation... No MATTER when it was done IT WAS PURE, AND UNADULTERATED EVIL!!
The children arrived at about noon. His attorney said his email from JP arrived at 12:05. He sent at least two or three other e-mails which all went out at about the same time. The first 911 call came in at 12:13.

About noon Sunday, Troyer said, the caseworker, a state contract worker from Foster Care Resource Network, brought the boys for a scheduled visit to Powell's house...

Attorney Jeffrey Bassett said the email arrived at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, but he didn't see it until two hours later, when others informed him of the fire...

The first 911 call was at 12:13 p.m., followed by other calls...

Powell's attorney, Jeffrey Bassett, said Powell sent him an email moments before the explosion. It read simply, "I'm sorry, goodbye."

Troyer also said that Powell had sent a handful of emails to family members and his pastor immediately before the explosion.

The emails detailed some items that Powell wanted addressed, such as shutting off the utilities and other items...

The e-mails must have been written earlier. He probably composed them that morning or on a previous day and scheduled them to be delivered at just after noon on Sunday. If so, they're not part of the timeline. Even if the boys arrived a few minutes after noon, that would still leave about eight minutes to deliver the blows to the children, spread the gasoline, and ignite the fire. Meanwhile, the poor caseworker was banging on the windows, calling his cell phone, and then calling her supervisor to report that she smelled gasoline. The poor woman. What we don't know is if she smelled the gasoline when the door was open, or as he was spreading it while she was standing near the house. Either way, he was determined and nothing was going to stop him.

You know what else I wondered about the social worker. This kind of ties into "suspect vs victim rights".
What would she have been legally allowed to do??

He was supposed to have visitation at that time... and she was at the residence.

Did she have authority to break into the home if he locked her out and she had reason to believe the kids were in danger?
Did they have paperwork that stated law enforcement was to kick in the door if Josh locked her out?

Did this social worker even know what her options were if she was locked out of the house??
Or did she need to call her supervisor to find out IF she could even call the police, if they could do anything?

Would law enforcement have take her word for it and kicked in the door immediately, even if there had been more time to do so?

I have a feeling that the answer to most of those is probably no.
They probably would have waited until his visitation time was over anyway...

I really just think the only way this was preventable was by not having visitation or having visitation at a neutral location.
However, I am interested in what the social worker would legally be able to do when something like this occurred. :twocents:

I'm thinking how horrible for 1 brother to watch his brother be hurt by dad and then him.
It must of been the MOST HORRIBLE thing to ever happen to 2 little children!
That MONSTER!
I am horrified by the thought of these innocent children being tortured by their biological father-monster. Oh, the horror, my imagination has created terrifying scenarios of one child then the other being hacked by this hideous man. How horrific this must have been for each of them but especially the second one. Oh, there is nothing too horrifiying that this man ought to suffer in the lake of fire/pit of hell. Oh, I sit and shake my head, what consciousless, vile, evil man JP was. I want to not believe any of this is true, but I know it is.I fear for others caught in similar circumstances. And the details they were giving about the "camping trip." What agony their little minds must have been in, "mommy disappeared," "she's hunting for crystals" for these past two years, they had memories of experiences they most likely didn't have words for. JP's actions only reinforce my thoughts on pathological individuals, they are evil human like individuals wounding, torturing, and murdering innocent people. We as a society need to learn to identify them, report them, get away from them and the legal system and mental health field need to step up their education so as to warn and protect society as well as incarcerate and/or institutionalize them for the good of society. We need to learn how to protect the children and other innocent targets/victims of pathological individuals NOW.

i know you're making a point on legalities, but it really doesn't matter. If you are in that position, you do whatever you can to help those kids. As she did. And no i don't think they would have waited until visitation time was over. Sheesh, this has been a very combative case from the beginning, and i don't think ANYONE would have just stood outside the door looking at their watch.

Better use of our time tonight is to pray that this woman and the Cox family/Graves family can even get a moments rest from the horrible pictures in their head of what happened to 2 innocent children that they loved. jmo

Social workers do not have the arms (let alone the authority) to break-in to any home. That is a job for LE to perform and only under certain circumstances, which this incident would clearly have called for if other measures had failed.

Bottom Line: No one had time or means, let alone authority, to get into the house to stop this Evil. Had LE arrived immediately and before the murders began, officers could/would have broken-in if the smell of gasoline was prevalent and the adult inside did not respond to commands to open the door.

Sadly so, there was NO time for any of that to take place.

~jmo and afaik~

He locked her out, she smelled gas....or vice versa, she should have called 911 immediately. IMO The first thing the gas co will tell to do upon smelling gas is to exit the building, then call. I think with land lines there was the chance of sparking...IDK about cell phones,??

How could the monster know that the kids would run to the door so fast that he could lock-out the social worker? I believe his plan included her as well, and perhaps this was reason too for the hatchet.

How could her training have provided any help in a situation so inconceivably evil as this one?

She had to think fast on her feet and make rapid decisions. imo she did exactly what she was trained and instinctively knew to do...call for help! What else could she possibly have done to stop this? Nothing!

A hatchet? Dear Lord, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse it promptly did. I had consoled myself that the explosion was probably too fast for the boys to realize what was happening but one of them had to watch their father murder his brother.

If he was capable of doing that to his precious children I don't even want to think about what he may have done to Susan.

Evil knows no bounds.

Blessings to the family and friends.

Just when I thought it couldn't get anymore horrific. I had to step away yesterday after I saw those pictures of the boys with their grandparents. So happy and loved. I fell apart.

This morning I wake up to this news. Why? Why? Why? Why?

Vile. Just vile. These new details really are too much to take.
I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this but it's been bugging me. I don't believe in heaven/hell so I don't think they've gone to 'a better place'. A better place would be for them to be alive now, not dead but living the long (and hopefully happy) lives they would have had ahead of them. But no, this hideous excuse of a man has taken that away from them in the most horrid way and that's despicable to me.

I know there is a Heaven and I know that Susan and Charley and Braden are together. Happy, playing, running and free from the evil that was their Dad and his Father.

What pictures are they referring to?????

The breaking point for Josh Powell, Cox believes, was last week's court hearing in which a judge ordered the Coxes to retain custody of the children and also ordered Powell to undergo a psychosexual evaluation.

"He lost control of the children. He was sure he was going to get them back by just claiming to take care of the issues … When he realized he really didn't, and those pictures came out from his computer … I think that was it. He knew that it was over," Cox said.
