I think the parents want the world to see if Daniel follows the protocol and still dies or gets worse. Kind of like, "We told you so." Maybe I'm being insensitive, but that's my take.
And I'm glad the judge agreed if that's what they want. Then they can't later claim - when Daniel, hopefully, recovers completely and is free from his cancer - that it didn't work at all.
