Thanks for the link. It this some kind of designer logo or event on his shirt?

I took a drive from Guelph past Cambridge this weekend and tried to find traffic cameras for either direction of this stretch of the 401. The only place where I could see a possibility of cameras would be around the exit near the Old Navy Store (Hespeler/Hwy 24) which I believe is where she said they came off the highway. Another possibility could be a camera from the various businesses along the highway but IMO these would be more focused on their own properties.

Back to TLM shoes. It occurred to me in TLM's testimony that TLM said she threw her shoes out and then MTR's. Her shoes could have landed close to each other as she ditched them but MTR may have been removing his while driving. Someone walking along the road in the days that followed could have picked up TLM's shoes and placed them in the bag in the picture for safe keeping which is why they appear to be in fairly good shape. Maybe they never came across MTR's and if he did go back to look for them, since he was roaming around for almost 6 weeks, perhaps he only found his own.

The removal of the battery from his phone I find quite baffling. If he was "smart" enough to remove it, why did he put it back in when he was in Guelph and then keep it in. IMO, TLM could have asked to use his phone and popped the battery out while he was concentrating on driving. He could have noticed this when he needed to use it again in Guelph and this is when he caught her messing with his phone. I hope they show who the last call was made to before "he" took the battery out.

He kept the battery in???

From the sound of it so far, he was in need of some percs, IIRC he used his phone to call BA to make that purchase (from what we know so far) I am curious who the heck he would call when leaving MF, that would have been after the pair raped and murdered a child....

I think the police stated that he used his phone to check his voicemail which typically is an outgoing call on a cellphone.

Somewhere up thread a link to the statement where it said he checked his voicemail and his phone pinged close to the crime scene. I believe it was in the Crown's opening address. I wonder who he would be expecting a message from.

If he was being careful, why not use a payphone to call BA?

KH did not make a deal with the devil. The prosecutors made a deal with "the devil" (KH) before the video tapes were found and showed just how involved she really was. Had those tapes been 'discovered' sooner, KH would still be sitting in jail. IMO

Just curious- since there apparently is video of MR in Guelph on the day of the abduction and we can assume Tori was in the car (although it is always dangerous to assume anything)..............what do you think MR planned to do with Tori after he sexually assaulted her?

My thoughts- A hammer and garbage bags were purchased PRIOR to them arriving in Mount Forest. Tori's fate was sealed when that money was withdrawn and the murder weapon was purchased. IMO MR and TLM BOTH planned on killing her as I doubt MR was oblivious or ignorant of what TLM purchased at Home Depot. I think MR knew there were cameras in HD and that's why TLM went inside.

BBM It certainly seems like MR was considering the possibility and avoiding being captured on surveilance cameras, but them why would he not have sent her to the ATM? If he knew there would be cameras in HD, surely he would think there would be one at a cash machine.

Because he didn't want to give her his PIN number.

Typically cash machines at gas stations and variety stores are smaller and probably without a camera. Perhaps he thought by using one of those instead of a bank ATM, he would avoid camera detection. I think he forgot or didn't realize that gas stations, especially a Petro Canada, would have cameras installed.

If MR had as many drugs at TLM says she had, he would have impaired judgement IMO. I feel the ATM was a last min decision, thinking that the HD visit would leave HIM with no trail.

He may not ever get out, even if he isn't declared a dangerous offender. Some seem to be under the misconception that a Life sentence means the offender is released in 25 years. That's not the case. Life means life, with no chance of parole for 25 years. The inmate must still apply for that parole in 25 years and not all are granted it. Even if granted parole, they are still under supervision and subject to conditions for the rest of their life.

Thank very much for providing the link Althea Dice, I'm sure those who are mis-informed or who just plain don't know will find the article very educational.

I'm a little more informed in this subject as I do have an aunt who served on the parole board of canada for a number of years, while at the same time a close family member was serving a life sentence since 1979 but who has been on parole now since 1992.

I was searching for some statistics on what percentage of inmates convicted of 1st degree murder actually receive full parole. This is all I could find, which isn't very clear to me, but it doesn't look like a large percentage are granted it.

or........the battery was NEVER reomoved from the phone. She SAYS it was to illustrate consciousness of guilt. To implicate him as participant.

It could also be that he took the battery out to save the strength, so that it wouldn't go dead before he needed to use it. It seems odd that it would be removed leaving town, with no thought given to using it later.

So is it possible that MR told her to do everything from the ATM, Home Depot, etc as he knew that there were cameras? Or did she do it all just because? She isnt stupid nor is he. Someone watched a lot of CSI and other crime shows regarding blood splatter

Your post just triggered a memory from the beginning when we found out TLM had been arrested and charged with murder. Does anyone else remember that she had a song or poem on one of her profiles that detailed how to commit the perfect murder, or how to hide a body so it would decompose really fast?

I thought this quote from Marc Klaas, father of murdered child Polly Klaas, sums up the argument for the death penalty sufficiently, here.

The thought of these criminals sitting in their cells doing this, at the expense of their victims memory, makes me sick.

JMO

How do I know these things to be true? Fifteen years ago I spent six months sitting in a courtroom as prosecutors built the case against my daughter Polly’s killer. I listened to psychiatrist after psychologist detail the mind of a sexually sadistic psychopath. Their arguments were so convincing that he was sentenced to death. He still sits on death row and, as he told Psychiatrist Lewelen Jones, “Masturbates twice daily and thinks of tying up female victims of past crimes." I can think of no better justification for the death penalty.

It will be very interesting to hear his statements to police. I'm betting he didn't tell the truth at all.

Does anyone know if MR will testify?

MTR may have taken out the battery for his phone in Woodstock, because he had just kidnapped Tori, but, a couple of hours later while in Guelph, he figured he was out of the woods, so he didn't worry about it (plus, he need it).

Does technology on the phone itself, allow an IT person to determine when a device has been power cycled etc.?

In any case, it sounds as if the cell pings will show his phone to be in some key places, and could possibly be another corroborating bit of evidence to show where he was that day. Especially if he actually talked to a person or two, from his phone. He won't be able to explain that away.

I hope so but it is doubtful. I saw bits and pieces of the C Anthony trial but can remember, did she testify?

Yes, I agree that's why SHE went in the store, because he told her to. HE had previously gone inside of Tim Hortons while she stayed in the car with Tori, so why did he stay with Tori while she went in HD? SHE would be on surveillance buying the murder weapon. Maybe he was also worried that she would let Tori go if he left the car again and stayed to be sure his 'prize' wasn't going anywhere. JMO
