Kaliyah was last seen in Cleveland, Ohio sometime in 2006. Her mother, India Parker, gave several conflicting stories to various people who asked about Kaliyah, including claiming she was with relatives, in foster care, or was killed when a bookcase fell on her. In December 2011, the father of one of India's other children became suspicious and reported Kaliyah missing.

The police could find no record of the child's supposed death. India admitted that she had never reported it. She said she threw Kaliyah's body in the trash. India remains in jail while authorities continue to investigate Kaliyah's case.
