I agree she is a bit of an unusual character but this doesn't make her a killer of her daughter.
Maybe because she is the type of person she is the people misinterpreted her.
To me she is more like she never grew up emotionally, there are people like this.. who react the way she does..
She lost a child, she is at that time probably on some medication.
I have someone who is quite close to me and who had a sudden loss.. this my person was changing mentally from minute to minute, sometimes completely cold, sometimes completely lost..
At this time Kate was in a shock state, you cannot predict really what people while in shock state would do or say.. it is even not recommended to psychologist to work with these people until the certain time has passed, usually 6 months.
There are different phases of this state, state of grief, it has 5 phases : denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. It cannot be predicted how long each phase lasts.

Her behavior both before and after the abduction looks like narcissism to me.

Doesn't make her a killer, just an observation.

I am not going to say anything to this and I think it is better for anyone to judge people in these situations. It can happen to everyone, to me, to you and to anyone close to us.
I wouldn't wish this to happen to my worst enemy.
Nasty people usually tend to judge others, they don't think that the same thing they do to others can turn on them too
I can only say I don't know how I would react if a sudden loss happened to me, and I hope I would never in my life experience this.
I witnessed it happen to someone quite close to me..my person also reacts really oddly but who are we to judge people that suddenly have their life ruined.

Kate's diary isn't "Kate's diary", it's a diary meant to be read by others. I have children, I don't think I'd be able to function if one of mine went missing, not enough to be writing that drivel! My diary would be full of "why did I leave them alone!" (Not that I would), and "I wish I could go back in time and change it all" but Kate's diary of her loss of Madeleine isn't about Madeleine, it's about Kate. It's about how wonderfully Kate is coping, and how brilliantly Gerry is performing. It's BS.

Different people live different way. I don't expect people to live my way or think my way..
They wouldn't leave the children alone in their village in the UK, why they did it in Portugal was because of the Mark Warner infamous listening service, which they provided in their other resorts, like their Greece etc resort.
Mark Warner also had 'listening service' advertised for Portugal. When McCanns arrived in Portugal they were told the listening service doesn't exist in Portugal so they decided to do their own listening service, same as the Mark Warner provided in Kos, Greece.
What they did not know at the time is that listening service doesn't exist in Portugal due to the high crime rate.. and IMO it is the fault of Mark Warner for not warning their customers about many criminal activities they had in Portugal but making it look safe.

The depth of my knowledge on Madeline's case has come from a passing news bite here and there over the years. I only visited this thread because of the "arrest of a possible suspect" I read about online over the weekend. Basically, I'm saying I don't know any substance and I really have no opinion yet about what happened.

So I open this diary thread and start reading. Then I page back up to the top to make sure I didn't misread the title of the thread and that it does, in fact, say "diary". Yup, it does. Hmmmm. It may say diary but it don't sound like any diary I ever wrote. As I continued reading I started to get confused. Again, knowing virtually ZERO about this case I thought maybe the police told her to write this, because it's obvious to me that she is writing this TO someone. If you read it close enough, she betrays herself. Just a few examples that jumped out at me:

-When she talks about finding the drunkard in the street she writes "-- we've all been there." It's an innocuous statement if you're talking to people and you're trying to relate to a common experience with them, but NOT when you're writing in your diary. Your diary is personal to only you. You would say something like, "God knows I've been there more times than I can count."

-This is the one that cinched it for me: "I just received some bad news. A friend has breast cancer and will receive her first round of chemotherapy."
HUH??? "a friend" has breast cancer? This is her diary, her private thoughts, and she writes "a friend"?? If this were her diary she would have written, "Mary has breast cancer and will receive..."

I noticed she uses a lot of "we" in her diary. Strange. I know she's married, but these are still her thoughts in her diary.

I'm going to assume that Cuddle Cat is Madeline's constant stuffed-animal companion? Did I read correctly that she washed it??? WHAT?!!?!?

So with a fresh set of eyes on this case and shooting in the dark from the hip I'll say that my bs alarm has officially been tripped.

Any tourist resort is a hot spot for criminals, that's not a secret. No sane person would think, that it would be safe and okay to leave children unattended in an open apartment, especially having the night creche and nannies at hand.

Yes, but they provided listening service in Greece, Canada etc but not in Portugal. Nannies were limited, they had to subscribe to the nanny service few days in advance. And crèche was far.
If the McCanns knew how dangerous is to imitate the 'listening service' they probably wouldn't have done it.

Seriously, is subscribing for nanny such an inconvenience? Or doing these few meters more for your children's safety? Someone who puts their convenience above the safety of their children is not fit to be a parent.

OK they made a mistake but so did 1000s of other British parents who also left their children sleeping in their rooms using 'listening service'

Kate seems like a lost soul under the complete control of Gerry. Gerry seems very controlling. Most of all, they seem like a team who will never leave their teammate. Like it's just the two of them in their little world. That would normall be a good thing, but not in the standing-together-for-evil kind of way.

I cannot picture Kate doing anything without Gerry, but obviously she did as she was (oh sorry, is) a doctor, she must have had some separation from him.
